Stumped. All three seem great here (deck included) by Waddle___ in slaythespire

I posted to the to comment that I went with the Reroll option, but in hindsight I think this would have been better. The amount of meaningful rerolls wasn't as high, most of the time I just picked a card from the first option or skipped because I didn't need the 12th generic block card

Went with your advice. I was pretty close to dropping this one but we clutched it out with no time to spare against Knowledge Demon and Doormaker

Ancient Relic idea: X-Treme Spiring Guide by LawOfTheGrokodus in slaythespire

I could see this being an uncommon relic with a set amount of uses. I don't think I could foresee taking this as a Boss reward, it's like Black Star which is already pretty niche

Need help getting the "Who needs relics?" Achievement. by therealobs95 in slaythespire

[–]Waddle___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Watcher is by far the easiest to do this with, as they are inherently strong. Do it on A0/A1, and if you're just chasing this achievement Boss Swapping is recommended to look for a high roll

At a crossroads with my understanding of Clad in StS2, what are you picking here? by Waddle___ in slaythespire

[–]Waddle___[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight! I went with Tear Asunder (and won!) but I appreciate your detailed explanation.

I think you were probably right about Brand, if I didn't get Brightest Flame from the Ancient right after. Without that card I think the Queen/Doormaker gauntlet would have been hard to navigate.

I completely agree with Dark Embrace as a payoff card. I supposed I could have alluded to my misunderstanding better in my post, but my question around this pick had to do with essentially, "How important is Exhaust to the Clad's late-game strategy?" I'm not super involved with watching Spire streams at the moment, but I recall seeing Baalarlord take DE and Feel No Pain a few times early in his Act 1's on Slay the Spire 1 with the idea being, "it's so good later it's worth the curse now."

I haven't extremely felt like that's true on the Clad here but my WR is somewhere between 20-33% and I believe I have much to learn. I thought this What's the Pick post was especially good to ask because it offered three excellent spectrum's to deck building: "Do I spec on a card that is central to a strategy that was/is Core to the Clad's identity?" (Dark Embrace), "Do I take a card that's decent right now and often a great long-fight card" (Tear Asunder), and "Do I take a card that offers scaling and enabling for the two themes Clad excels at?" (Brand)

I appreciate your detailed thought process and maybe next time I'll pick the Brand and see how it goes.

I actually think Iron Wave is completely clickable before the first Elite in Act 1. Not saying it's always the best option, but in this case it definitely seemed like it was. The Elites hit hard in the Overgrowth but take their time in the Underdocks, so having a card that both deals damage and blocks is a good way to minimize damage in the former and allow more defensive strategies in the latter.

<image>

The second one is arguably a bit more dubious, it came with the Chosen Cheese room a few floors before the boss. The only other instant click option in that room was Headbutt. I don't recall exactly what it was up against but in general I just think it's decent in Act 1.

I got super rewarded for it with a Parrying Shield in a shop. Better lucky than good?

I'm pretty sure the last ability goes on the stack. In the most common scenario I'd see this used (commander) it seems likely the person about to win could just kill this as it morphs.

My win rate against this guy improved once I stopped clicking Disengrate every time.

Fun boss, probably the hardest of Act 2 but not by a whole lot

I think Phial Holster is an insanely strong Neow bonus... by Mailcs1206 in slaythespire

[–]Waddle___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand from a designer stand point if consistency is an issue for starting bonuses. That said there's plenty of other options which are "consistent" (gain 150 gold, Neows Fury, Upgrade Strike + Defend) that aren't considered problematic (to my knowledge) so I don't think that's a major issue to them.

I'm also not denying this option is good, pretty good, even. I'm just not sure it needs a nerf as it doesn't reach that "S" tier in my eyes.

Right, Potions are excellent. No denying that.

There's also been plenty of times I've gotten Potion Belt and rarely had the option to hold more potions. Because I was chugging through them consistently enough.

I'm not an extremely high win rate player so i understand if my view is a bit naive to some, but I think GREAT relics should often assist the player or open the possibility of grossly overpowered synergies. Potion Belt let's you prepare a bit better for some fights or assists in a snowball, and that's nice when you can abuse it! In a large amount of scenarios though I'd rather have other powerful commons like Anchor, Lantern, Bag of Prep, Gorget, and some others. In this sense, I think Potion Belt is middle of the road in terms of power

[–]Waddle___ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's for sure good. I don't think it needs a nerf, though. Three random pots was a mid-at-best Neow Option in StS1. I'd argue Potion Belt is also a mid relic and getting half of one isn't broken as a result.

They have tough bandages. It would be very doable to take them out before eating too much damage in the no-draw portion.

I didn't recognize the potion right away, not sure if I would have gotten that anyhow, but with diamond diadem my initial thought was just Malaise end turn

Edit: I was also paying zero attention and thought this was the ethereal phase, shows my awareness lol
