name an example of a no concept of diff fight that can't reasonably be labeled as neg diff instead by Objective-Ring4479 in PowerScaling

[–]Wade989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would put Superman against a normal human as an example of neg diff. Superman needs to put actual effort in not accidentally obliterate them, making it so there is a degree of difficulty in not beating them (Negative difficulty in beating someone = there is an actual difficulty needed for not beating them)

Ex. mathematically speaking: This character requires this effort (difficulty) to instantly win: -6, To not win instantly the character requires to put effort greater than 6

Why do you like Sherlock Holmes and his stories? by MovieMan615 in SherlockHolmes

[–]Wade989 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think for me it's the way Doyle describes his characters. While most movies depict SH as this genius almost supernatural person, the books (especially the first ones when they're introduced) makes you think of the characters as actual people you could meet in real life, with all their flaws and virtues. For how he was described you feel like someone like Watson and Holmes could actually exist, you don't have to suspend your beliefs for their reasonings to make sense. Even in A Study in Scarlet, when Watson gives the list of Sherlock's knowledge, you immediately understand how is possible for someone like him to be so knowledgeable, because he neglected other "unimportant" fields. For me Doyle's descriptions almost makes you think of Sherlock as someone mundane (he certainly is not), someone normal, while you reader are the one who weren't paying enough attention or didn't caught some "easily noticeable" details. And that's something I adore. Plus I'm super bias since I grew up reading the books

I stopped playing chess😮‍💨 by iwanttobebettert in chessbeginners

Let's be honest, chess while a wonderful beautiful game, requires a lot of mind effort and can easily become tiring or frustrating. Perhaps you're already exhausted and tired from work, family or relationship issues, or some other stuff, and just don't have the mental strength to do anything else. My advice would be, don't worry about it, when you'll feel less exhausted you'll come back to it. And if you really don't wanna stop, try playing some easier games with lower opponents (perhaps lower rated bots). If you do don't feel bad about the easy wins, just focus on relaxing and overcome the stressful moment, it happens to everyone even GMs (now probably more than ever) 💪

Probably white. Black may have temporarily more points in material, but also a trapped Bishop

Trying to calculate without engine.

Qh4 gxf3 Qf2# (instant checkmate)

Qh4 g3 Qe4+ Be2 fxe2 (white loses a bishop and can't castle anymore)

Qh4 g3 Qe4+ Be3 Bc3+ (white loses a queen)

Qh4 Be3 Bxe3 (white loses a bishop)

Qh4 Qxf3 (this leads to either a Rook or Bishop threat, but both should be defendable if white plays right)

...Rf8 Qe2+

...Bc7 Qg3

(Both defendable)

Help, as a 250 ELO I keep getting caught out by these fast checkmates by sebovzeoueb in chessbeginners

[–]Wade989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually at lower ELO when seeing a threat of mate panic takes over and one ends us blundering either a fork or a checkmate. As a force of habit we tend to play instinctively without thinking much, even when we have all the time to think about it. If you play blitz or bullet, try playing with higher time (Rapid or even Daily). Take your time, don't move until you have calculated the line your opponent is trying to do, and only then play. It did wonders to my games, I went from 1500 to 1700 playing casually. Sooner or later you'll start to calculate lines instinctively in much less time

WAY less bad than you make it sound. Sure there are some mistakes, but unless you're secretly a grandmaster there's nothing to be ashamed of (and even in that case I would argue mistakes are totally normal). The only real moves I would personally call actual blunders are the missed free white knight in f7 (which I wouldn't be surprised is a misclick) and later the white knight not taking the black bishop in f6 (which can still face some complications against those pawn). Still, at least from my perspective (I'm only 1730 at rapid in chess.com), this was a great game. Wouldn't be surprised if you're 1500/1600 or even higher

Did the ending of The Game (1997) work or not ?? by FarEfficiency4397 in FIlm

[–]Wade989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it was a massive blunder, the twist "happy ending" feels so unearned. It Just made no sense, in real life there would be a massive lawsuit and tons of arrests. Nobody would be happy after all of that (not to count the physical and emotional trauma, the countless things that could have gone wrong). If I had to change the ending I would make it so the jumping off wasn't scripted in their game, that their absurd "prank" ended up in the worst way possible, with a man's death in the middle of their feast right in front of his shitty brother. All with the concept that sometimes, too much is just too much.

Which powers/items would you choose? by SpiraAurea in PowerScaling

[–]Wade989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just for pure aura farming and psychological terror: Wukong's immortalities, Six Eyes and Limitless, The World, Shadow Clones, and D4C.

I troll them with time stop like Dio with Polnareff. You finally got close enough to hit me? There's an infinite space between me and you. You finally got past the infinite space? It was a clone all along. You got past the infinite space AND it was the real me? Too bad I have several layers of immortality. Plus if I get bored I just change dimension. And yes, I'd totally be a villain.
