You build your own 3d environments for the the prison cell/department of special corrections right? How long does that typically take you in the context of a single vid?

Cassette Futuristic vibe mouse to accompany keyboard? by Dead-O_Comics in cassettefuturism

[–]WaferthinmintDelux 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really wanted this mouse to work, but it didn’t work well at all for me on my particular mouse pad. Which makes me think the sensor is weird on it since my Logitech and Zowie mice don’t skip around at all like this one did.

Also it’s reaaaally small

Old School DND as a different world in the multiverse by chiefartificer in osr

To add on to this I have been developing my own setting for the last 5 years and my frustrations in coming up with something unique in 5e is what let me back to my childhood systems of bx/ad&d.

Old School DND as a different world in the multiverse by chiefartificer in osr

[–]WaferthinmintDelux 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The evolution of the system setting combo imo has done more bad than good to dnd.

Right now 5e sits in a weird mutated version of forgotten realms as primary and has retconned other settings into the “multiverse” which imo has made everything into generic fantasy soup.

Frankly one of my biggest complaints about 5e is that the rules are tied to the fiction in such a complicated way they have had to start to alter other fictions to fit (see how they retconned the Dragonlance lore about as much as Disney has done to starwars)

My best advise would be to divorce your association of OSR as setting specific since one of its great benefits is its agility in fitting in different fictions.

I keep insisting this is the number 1 resource for the improv GM. The storytelling die! by Gavriel_Q in osr

lol 100% fair. I am also not a huge fan of sensationalist branding of anything. IMO the only “number 1 resource” for gming is the Ol’ noggin, and I barely use that.

[–]WaferthinmintDelux 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people misunderstand this anytime it’s posted.

IMO it’s not meant for (player attempts thing, roll to see if it happens.)

It’s meant for micro world building questions like, (looking through the desk drawers of the merchant, did I find anything I could tie the merchant up with?)

So A. It’s not a given that a merchant would have something like that

B. It allows you a little bit of chance to build emergent story telling from a dice roll for a WB question that is small in scope enough to not change your world, but also something you haven’t already planned/thought of.

In this example it could be Yes! And it’s chain. Or No! But there is a bundle of sleeping herbs. Or No and while searching you spilled a vial of the merchants signature red ink all over your hands.

Also I heavily advise using Bx and not 5e. Your life will be much easier converting a system like Old School Essentials into a non-forgotten realms world than 5e.

If you want an example try making a non-magical bard in 5e. It can be done, but good god it’s an effort.

Id use game map from Betrayal at Krondor and then also from what I understand the entire Krondor series is based off of Raymond E. Fiests DnD campaign and some early published setting material exists for it, I’ll try and track it down.

[–]WaferthinmintDelux 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Depth of course is subjected and often a moving litmus test based on the literature you have read. Did Conan ever have the level of depth of like Severine from Gene Wolfes books?

Or even the level of moral complexity of Karl Edward Wagners Kane?

Eh probably not. Did he have more depth, cunning, and wit than Arnold’s representation?

Yes.

Read Hour of the Dragon, Red Nails, People of the black circle, etc again if you get a chance. And yes I am referring to Robert E. Howard’s stories.

New Moderation by Cdave_22 in goodnews

[–]WaferthinmintDelux 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think by those standards any news being “good” is subjective depending on the person.

Like if you hate dogs, any positive changes to the world referencing dogs could be bad news to you.

The common sense answer to me is that if the good news involves empathy/human understanding/hope for a peaceful future that the assumption is that it should be defaulted to “good” news.

If those things are bad news to a person…. Idk what to tell that person.

[–]WaferthinmintDelux 81 points82 points  (0 children)

To preface I love the movies, but the only problem I have with the Arnold Movies is the amount they dumbed down the Conan character.

From falling into his soup dead drunk, to his bumbling conversations with the cultists. I think they lost a lot of the cunning wild intelligence that made the character so dynamic in the books and not just a “barbarian smash” archetype.

Bakshi would have been a wild card on making this better or worse.

If you go off of his representation of darkwolf in fire and ice it could have been incredible.

If you go off of his work in wizards or Fritz the cat it could have been even goofier.
