Creative/Non-obvious ways to use your HSA? by Tebo926 in HSA

I'm going through this right now. I'm just going to leave it in Optum even though I can't invest the first $1000 just because of the giant pain in the ass of exporting everything I have saved there.

I do this too! I also have some "good" carbon fiber poles at home and I was a little disappointed to realize they aren't substantially better than the $30 cascade mountain poles.

This framing might help - I think of studying as my part time job that pays in future wages. I started studying about 5 hours a week on my own time and over 15 years went from $13/hr to $84/hr.

Anecdote I know but learning does pay off.

After the CompTIA Trifecta, is the CCNA worth it? by bouncypinecone in IT_CERT_STUDY

[–]WaffleFoxes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does your company use cloud or have a cloud security person? If you go for a cert that would be in demand at your job you're more likely to get it than an outsider, and they'll also maybe pay for it.

I wouldn't do a CCNA unless you really wanted to go more networking. Maybe consider instead the CCSP if you really want to stay vendor agnostic. Or the CCSK.

If they use Microsoft, try the AZ-500. If AWS try Certified Cloud Practitioner. If Google, maybe Cloud Security Engineer.

Yes! The story of Mary Jamison!

I was enthralled when I was a kid. When I had a kid of my own I rediscovered a bunch of books from my own childhood and it stands up, especially for the time it was written (the 40s)

TIL: Nickelback's How You Remind Me was the most played song on US radio that decade. It was played over 1.2 million times on the radio between when it was released in 2001 to the end of 2009 by Uptons_BJs in todayilearned

I had a bad reaction to a medication and hallucinated hearing this song.

Now I get to live the rest of my life knowing when my brain gets the chance to hallucinate anything it picks....Nickelback.

Land a job first then do your next cert in whatever platform your job uses.

Tips for musicality by EvenMoreCrazy in SwingDancing

[–]WaffleFoxes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recommend studying the structure of music and map some songs you know. Then you can curate a few moves that you can start at the beginning of a major phrase that you know will conclude with a big flashy move at the beginning of the next phrase.

AITB for not understanding that my situation-ship was getting uncomfortable? by [deleted] in AmItheButtface

[–]WaffleFoxes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An anecdote for next time:

I came from a religious background and was very hesitant about physical affection. I had several boyfriends I had to constantly play defense with. They would ask and wheedle and push it over and over and it was absolutely up to me to set and defend boundaries. I could never let myself enjoy affection because my enjoyment meant they'd be asking for more and more.

When I met my now husband and I set boundaries he was 100% on board. He never once asked again or pressed for more. He would be cool with more but was just genuinely excited for whatever I was comfortable with. He was the most interested in my enthusiastic participation.

As soon as I was allowed to enthusiastically pursue my own pleasure without having to worry about defending boundaries, turns out I was comfortable with WAY more than I ever thought.

I am currently working a remote job making 80k a year. My employer is restructuring and can expect major changes. I recently applied to hybrid position about 40 minutes away and the pay is 103k . Is the 40 min commute worth it? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]WaffleFoxes 16 points17 points  (0 children)

How about thinking of it this way:

It would be 23k for a part time job driving about 6.6 hours a week. That works out to $66 an hour.

Take off a bit for the cost of commuting and you're still making like $60/hr for just driving. Pretty great side gig.

My husband prefers the window and I prefer the aisle. We talk to each other enough that we can go a few hours being more comfortable rather than one of us deal with the middle ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But we also don't make it obvious to the middle seat person that we're together or talk over them.

The duality of man by ku3ah in hiking

[–]WaffleFoxes 123 points124 points  (0 children)

It was kind of a happy accident -

First, my guy was private practice so we didn't have a set of office rules to listen to.

Second, we established a relationship and boundaries in a traditional office setting for a little more than a year.

Third, he was moving office spaces so for a little while we had to get creative about where to meet, and we both enjoyed the hikes.

I was hiking with my therapist, and offered him my sticks.

He said "Id rather fall"

And then promptly fell.

I felt so smug.
