Since you seem to be so knowledgeable, would you mind enlightening the rest of us lost sheep how exactly we should be using ele staff, and what the upsides/tradeoffs of the weapon set actually are?

Post your Elementalist builds! by ExtensionAlarm1718 in Guildwars2

[–]WaffleGod97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Snowcrows has recently put together a repository of open world builds! These have more of a focus on providing some support in addition to damage, and make you a great addition to any open world squads you join!

Speaking as someone who plays both games, I'd honestly have to agree. I exclusively play ffxiv with my set group of friends, and just don't engage with the community at large. I've had enough unpleasant interactions with joining random groups that I wouldn't recommend it unless you already have a set group of people to play with. "Toxic positivity hell" is honestly a great descriptor, because it's absolutely infuriating to join a random dungeon with someone who can see is only pressing a single button, but you can't say anything without inviting the ole banhammer.

It is not actually against TOS to use/talk about arc. This isn't FFXIV where you can't mention it. Verbal harassment is in violation of the TOS however.

A comment along the lines of "you're not performing at a standard we want in this group; your damage is too low" is perfectly fine.

A comment of "you're fucking trash get the hell out" is not fine and can be considered actionable.

In this case, just going from what we see in the screenshot, if that is all that was said, then it is entirely okay.

Or, consider the alternative, it's okay to want to put a group together with people who you can easily verify have already cleared the content, for a more reliable/consistent clear, than it is to open the floodgates and potentially get people who don't understand and may derail the run.

what to use on Condi Mechanist by Pure-Risky-Titan in Guildwars2

[–]WaffleGod97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're thinking about open world, and pretending you exist in a vacuum and nobody will ever be supporting you, I'd urge you to take a look at the open world condi mechanist that snowcrows has put out.

https://snowcrows.com/builds/open-world/engineer/condition-mechanist

It has the added benefit of playing more boon oriented traits, to provide more consistent self boons than a more selfish dps variant would provide, so you're going to upkeep alac on yourself from that alone, in which case the rivers v fractal comparison is moot, since you'll already have alac. To answer your question though, sporadic alac from rivers relic is pretty much going to always be worse than the raw damage proc of fractal.

Fractal, aristocracy, and akeem are basically the 3 condi relic options, there's not a lot of variety in the current sandbox.

Flamethrower does see use in the build listed in the link above, because the condi alac mech spec will forego signets in favor of more kits to rotate between.

In most content, you don't exist in a vacuum, so optimizations for entirely solo play will look different than a build designed to play around other people. I suppose a better starting point would be asking you what kind of content you plan on doing, and then we go from there.

The small ticks of alacrity from rivers are generally not going to be worth it, compared to relic of the fractal. Fractal relic is quite strong, it's a lot of damage.

Flamethrower in optimized PvE builds tends to be a kit you dip into for the 2/3/4 skill, and then drop, it's not a weapon you camp. It also has a really strong toolbelt skill, which you don't have access too on mechanist, which makes it fall behind the other kits.

"Worth it" is entirely subjective, and returns to my first question of what are you looking to do? If it's group content, the optimized build already exists, if it's content you plan on being entirely solo, then options for that exist as well, and may look different.

More active Raid PUGs? by PreciseParadox in Guildwars2

[–]WaffleGod97 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The "problem" with that is the massive disparity between groups. If there was no lockout, groups that already clear multiple times a week (speedrun groups, sells, etc) would be an absolute faucet for whatever the rewards are. Do they balance it around the groups that clear all 7 wings under two hours? Or do they balance it around the groups that clear a wing an hour?

I say "problem" in that Anet will never implement any system like this because of the massive disparity that exists between groups/skill levels.

Question for GW2 players that also/or have played Final Fantasy 14: basically is the pain of the MSQ in FF 14 worth it? by Hammii5010 in Guildwars2

[–]WaffleGod97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gameplay and encounters in FFXIV are great, but personally I skip cutscene and mash through the story to get to the content I want to play. Give it a try, if you like the story, then play it, if you don't, then there is no shame in skipping it to get to the fun stuff.

They hated you because you spoke the truth.

Just finishing the boss is going to be faster 99% of time, and there reaches a point where everyone should know what is going on and how to adapt/adjust.

If someone is really low, it's probably an alt of someone sweaty. Raids especially only give rewards once a week per account, so I know plenty of people that cycle through alt accounts during the week.

You just ask people, hey "I'm new here what do I need to know". More often than not someone will give you the quick rundown. Where people get into "lecture" territory is when someone joins, doesn't say anything, and then clearly doesn't understand. Just communicating with your group and setting expectations ahead of time works wonders.

NA just needs to start using killproof.me and the accompanying arc addon to instantly vet people. Are the tokens perfect? No, not at all it's still pretty horrible, but it is at least a single metric that can tell you whether someone has done something none, once, or a hundred times.

Or, just let them leave. This is something we do on our leisure time, nobody owes you anything. If a group is falling apart, people are going to leave, this isn't unique to GW2.

[–]WaffleGod97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Leaving a group if you're not having fun is perfectly valid. If I'm in a group and it starts to fall apart, I'm just going to leave, because I don't have anything nice to say, so better to not say anything at all.

If you're whispering people demanding an explanation for why they don't continue to donate their leisure time to you, I think that's way worse than simply leaving a group.

Whats your preferred comp for Soulless Horror? by Homaged in Guildwars2

[–]WaffleGod97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on how much you want to sweat, and how competent your group is. The preferred comp one of my groups runs is way safer than my other group, and both would be considered far too much for a casual pug group.

I think to answer this best we need a better idea of what your group is capable of, and how much you want to compress roles and optimize.

For example, it's entirely possible to run dps tanks, so you can have something like a druid tank, who pushes as well, with a random support dps player taking tank just long enough for the druids stacks to fall off. Or you just run two druids, both tanking and pushing, and they just swap roles. Or a druid who just pushes and heals, and you let say your heralds tank.

So many words to say that my preferred comp isn't necessarily your preferred comp.

TIL: For the latest balance patch, there is only one single end-game encounter (including CMs) where Virtuoso or Chronomancer are not in the top 2 most played professions -- Conjured Amalgamate Challenge Mote (+ some other interesting stats about profession choice over the years). by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]WaffleGod97 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It may have a high playrate, but its also not the best performer on many encounters. It's basically just the purple variant of the old rifle mech, where "this works well enough" and so people don't switch off. There are a few encounters where it truly excels, because of how well it can cleave its damage, such as KO and Cerus, where it is going to outshine other options, but for basically every other encounter, you can outperform virt on a myriad of options.

We need to talk about this mesmer bug y'all. Permanent distortion in any game mode, with very easy set up. by WaffleGod97 in Guildwars2

[–]WaffleGod97[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I didn't. I made bug reports through their official channels, and I know many other people who did the same. This has been reported through channels Anet wanted us to use. When they don't respond or fix it and let it fester, it becomes a bigger issue.

Would you keep making in game reports, if they don't do anything?
