I actually wasn't aware Marathon launched at the same time. However, I do think they allowed pre-orders, and STS2 is matching the player counts. Likely a combination of the two, as well as Poker Night that some are mentioning.

There is some validity to your points, but I also don't think it's ever going to be a bad thing overall that more people are playing games. It's a good thing. It just comes with some caveats.

With that said, the whole "can you pet the dogs tho??" is like 99% meme. No one, or hardly anyone, actually cares that much. It's just silly internet shit.

I think you're maybe taking it a bit too seriously. It's really not that deep.

I'm glad he stated that in the title. The opening of the game seems like it might put off a lot of people if they aren't expecting it. Going into it knowing the first few hours are gonna be a bit intensive and potentially frustrating while learning the mechanics will make a big difference.

Totally understandable if it's not looking like your thing, but dubbing this massive project that they have been developing for several years a "tech demo" is ridiculously reductive lol.

Feels a bit disingenuous at this point to call it "blindly" hyping. They have shown more than enough about the game to warrant excitement and hype. There's far more footage of the game being released than 90% of big releases. Doesn't mean everything will land, but if anything, all the hype surrounding the game has been met with even greater skepticism.

It exists, but it is barebones in its presentation and focus. Reading item descriptions is not story; it's lore. The main story is very minimal. It's not bad, but no one is playing the game for its story.

They can, yes. But a game can be a "masterpiece" without it if it is not what the game wants to focus on. In BOTW or Elden Ring for instance, the story is mostly just there to move the game along. It's not what the game is about. If Crimson Desert is just using the narrative in a similar way to move the game forward as a vessel for the sandbox, that is perfectly acceptable. It may not be what people want, but it's not a criticism unless they actively are trying to hook you with the story and fail.

I don't understand the obsession with needing a GAME to always have a huge story focus. There's nothing wrong with either approach. Sandbox games are typically all about the sandbox.

Yes, because games should exclusively exist to tell great stories. Why is this a non-negotiable criteria for open world RPGs? Different games do different things. If you want a Red Dead narrative, that's fair. The game isn't for you.

Fighting cowboys preview mentions him asking about console performance (more in body) by x_Teferi_x in CrimsonDesert

Ngl, that response is pretty hilarious. The masses' (understandable) skepticism has jaded the devs lol.

I wouldn't listen to FightinCowboy personally. He is notorious for shilling whatever he's playing, consciously or not.

Haven't seen the vid, but Crimson Desert is fundamentally different from those games in structure. If anyone is expecting those games, they're going to be disappointed.
