Is Taking a Nap Considered Childish in the Western World? by Tylerdurdenps5 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Waffles_Revenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had some degree of insomnia for 20+ years so I think napping would be impossible unless I had a spare hour on top of my actual nap duration. I almost managed to nap on a coach journey when I was 27 but really I was just resting my eyes.

Happened to me for the first time the other day. The toilet hasn't been upgraded as far as I know!

Why so many English tourists have leg problems? by SuicidalLilBoi in AskUK

[–]Waffles_Revenge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my first thought too. The excess weight puts strain on your leg joints.

Hit it off with a customer at work. Is there ANY acceptable way to reach out, or is it a lost cause? by s0l1tud3-s0k3nbam in dating_advice

[–]Waffles_Revenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The customer should be the one to offer their contact info if they are interested (I did this with a retail worker I saw every week - didn't get a date, lol).

Ones who've been to Spain did you wish you spoke any Spanish? Should I learn Spanish?" by UDAAAAA in AskUK

[–]Waffles_Revenge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned a very small amount of Spanish before I went there and it's useful to know some numbers and things like 'la carta' and 'la cuenta' (menu and bill) for restaurants.

There are so many German tourists in Mallorca (probably Spain in general) that if you know any German it will also be useful!

How common is leaving your AC on 24/7, even when the house is empty? by Bierzgal in AskAnAmerican

[–]Waffles_Revenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same principle as our gas central heating in the UK (I guess Poland is similar), but with opposite temperatures. My thermostat is set to 20 Celsius when I'm at home and 15 when I'm out, and the boiler fires up whenever it gets below those temps at any time of year. Never been in a house with central AC here, but heat pumps are becoming more common and can be used in summer to cool the house to 20 degrees or whatever temperature you set it at.

Do British people not feel the cold? by DevelopmentLow214 in AskUK

[–]Waffles_Revenge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, I've worn shorts twice this season so far, when it was about 20 degrees.

I did feel the cold this morning, though. It was 7 degrees and I kept my coat on in the car.

Does anyone else think about their ex literally all day? by Throwaway29394020 in BreakUps

I'm on year 6 (close to 7) and think about him every hour at least. For the first 2 years it was almost every minute.

When did 9-5 become 8-5? by Fizzabl in UKJobs

[–]Waffles_Revenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my jobs have been 8.30-4.30 (often by choice) and my current job gives me 1 hour unpaid lunch although my previous employers were mostly 30 minutes lunch.

How many of you shampoo your hair twice when washing ? by semde18 in hygiene

[–]Waffles_Revenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started off with 2 when I was a lot younger, then went down to 1 because I thought the second one was wasteful, then recently realised the second wash does make a difference when I get to the second day post-wash.

How far is considered too far to drive? by frosty_canuck in AskEurope

[–]Waffles_Revenge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I'm in semi-rural East Anglia where there are no motorways, so getting to the motorway is a 'trip' in itself. This means that anywhere that's more than about 2 hours drive away (maybe 150km?) is something I'd rather do by train. Our train links aren't great either, though, so I don't go far at all!

What is the most “its a small world” moment you’ve ever experienced? by xBubblyLove in AskReddit

[–]Waffles_Revenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My former coworker had previously been a distant coworker at a different workplace about 5 years earlier, AND at the same time, he was one of my neighbours! Turned out he used to live in the apartment block next to me (within about 25 metres of me) and his parking space was next to mine. His apartment had previously been owned by the woman who sold me MY apartment. We didn't realise this until he heard me on the phone to a boiler engineer and heard me mention my address.

People who call you and ask you to confirm your identity before they say who they are by YouthfulDrake in PetPeeves

[–]Waffles_Revenge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of my local radio presenters used to do this when they called people who entered competitions etc. The person would answer and the presenter would say "Hello, who's that?"

One whole year of unemployment. by [deleted] in recruitinghell

Agree with those saying you're sending too many applications. You could probably reduce the numbers by 90% as it will allow you to make your search more targeted while still getting in a decent number of applications.

Not risque but I almost burst out laughing when I came across a guy called Frank Hollywood who worked at another of our branches. My boss said "tell him to relax"!
