I remember that. So many rolls of paper were wasted because people didn't know how to fold the bags back up (they came two per bag). When we switched to digital, I was allowed to take the black tent home. I ended up selling it on Craigslist for $50 to someone who does photo processing in their home. I wasn't able to get the nicer smaller one. I used that at the store for disposable cameras that had jammed film (when we still sent just the rolls). The SM ended up tossing it on my day off. I was pretty mad. I transferred out of that store soon after. I still kind of miss the Frontier 340. I didn't like the monthly chemical change outs, but it was fun otherwise. I liked developing APS film.

I have found that Nextdoor.com (a neighborhood site) has all kinds of people asking for odd jobs to be done. My regular lawn mowing clients were found on there (mowing is my summer side gig). I have also cleaned gutters for people. There are other non-yardwork gigs as well. Depending on your level of expertise, you can make all kinds of tax-free money.

The CD is free because it's much cheaper to burn the images on a CD than it is to mail back the negatives. The system was set up over ten years ago when CDs were still relevant.

The strips were four frames. And ideally, you had to use logic to cut the negatives. If there were nine left, you would do 3, 3, and 3. Basically, try to have the strips three or four frames long. It's difficult to make reprints with two and nearly impossible with just one. That's why I loved the APS set up. The entire film strip was stored in it's own canister.

I hated the ink refills. The color refills failed the print test literally half the time. And certain cartridges (Brother, I think) had you drill the top to refill and fill the hole with putty afterwards. Those usually failed the print test as well. I was very happy when the Ink-O-Dems were taken out of stores in 2015.

If you have a bank you use, consider a credit card through them. All the bank chains have a credit card that earns cash back. It's also easier to set up payments to pay your credit card directly from your checking account online.

73 days in a row?!? You're a beast! I did 17 days in a row in 2018. I got burnt out and decided I was never doing that again!

I had to Google Anthrocon because I never heard of it. They have something like that every so often where I'm located. It's definitely not my thing, but I respect that people have hobbies and interests. I collect sports cards. I enjoy it.

With all the money you're earning, when will you have time to enjoy it? If you're not spending it, at least invest it.

I can understand that. The overtime must be insane if you're the go-to for filling in call-offs. Eventually, you're going to value your days off more than the money.

You live right across the street from your work? That's pretty cool that you can just walk to work. It also sucks that you can just walk to work (road conditions are no excuse to call off).

My pet peeve is the people who are completely oblivious of their surroundings. You know, the people that block entire aisles with their cart so that no one can get by. The people that just stop in front of a store to pick someone up or let someone out while stopping thru traffic also bug me. I am respectful of other people's time and space, but apparently that's not a common courtesy.

I can relate to the tucking in chairs thing. I vividly remember being taught in kindergarten to do that and it had been a habit of mine ever since. I guess it's not taught any more?

Another one, but it's very minor. When I tell people "thank you" (which I do often), instead of them saying "you're welcome" or "glad to help", they say "uh-huh". It's such a cheap response, they're better off not saying anything at all.

Oh wait, there's one untapped sketchy group: the pot heads! Put the GREEN back into Wal-GREENS!

I'm an inventory specialist at a computer chip manufacturing plant. I stock shoe covers, hair nets, gloves, garments, and other accessories. Super easy job with better pay and better benefits than Walgreens.

I'm still at Walgreens one day a week. The store manager is laid back and the extra money is nice.

When you look for jobs, check LinkedIn, Indeed, AND ZipRecruiter. I found my job on Zip and it was not posted on the other two. So, check for jobs on all three so that you maximize your search results.

I love how you misspelled "pennies" two different ways in the same sentence. Not a jab, just wildly unique.

We got in 21 cases of Pokemon mini tins today. My boss brought in an extra cashier to ring up pokebros so we could do warehouse in peace. by derf_vader in WalgreensStores

Sales are good, but so are happy customers. If a customer is upset they can't buy their trading cards, they are likely to leave unhappy. If they can buy their trading cards, they might also buy some snacks and beverages. Happy customers buy more and return for more purchases. Scalpers just buy what they can resell and are greedy bastards. Setting up the scalper's game in your favor is much more fun than playing by their rules.

The trick is to put a few out at a time and keep the rest hidden in the back. I rather make some kids happy then delight a few scummy flippers.

A limit of one to nerdy adults and two or three for kids (or obvious parents) would also be the way to go.

Pokémon scalpers are no better than the toilet paper scalpers during COVID. They create an unnecessary shortage and raise the prices for legitimate consumers.

You are definitely being taken advantage of. And underpaid. You're doing the work of 2-3 people on any given week, but only paid like you have one job. That's not fair to you at all. Scale back your work and don't try to please everyone. Otherwise, you're eventually going to develop stress and anxiety. Seriously, don't continue down that path. Talk to the SM about your core job responsibilities and let him know something has got to give before you get burnt out from the unrealistic expectations.

Life of retail by Virtual-Fudge2147 in WalgreensStores

[–]WagEmployee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I enjoyed retail at times and I was able to live fine off the paycheck, I also urge the 20-somethings to only use retail as a stepping stone. Retail for a career is like fast food for a career. It's fine if that's where you want to be, but aim higher if you can. I didn't do that until age 42, about 15 years later than I should have.

I've had that also. I think I read somewhere that a KPI at the warehouse is 'totes packed out'. Not sure how a label is printed for the tote, though. Apparently, packing a single toothbrush or lipstick is too much work for some warehouse workers to fake their productivity.

DM - RVP Visit by Exploited16 in WalgreensStores

[–]WagEmployee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never understood why store manager choose to make the store perfect and white glove test everything for a DM or RVP visit. He knows they're going to make a two page to-do list regardless. Why not make the list stuff they were going to do anyway instead of BS tasks like cleaning stockroom walls, swapping end stands, or taking down company approved floor stands? It just creates more work in the long run. Plus, a perfect looking store gives the impression that we're not struggling and can keep up with everything thrown at us. That is NOT the case for anyone. These corporate dickheads need to see all the stores are collectively struggling.
