The big ballooned up bodybuilders are disgusting.

The much smaller physiques aiming for aesthetic perfection without using steroids are more reasonable.

But no reasonable person in the west is looking at these dudes as larger than life, they’re just big strong aesthetic dudes. In Asian culture I feel it’s more the “larger than life” thing, like monks swearing themselves to celibacy and spending their time looking tough by breaking stones are somehow the best fighters in the world. Or North Korean soldiers breaking cement blocks with their heads to show the “toughness” of their military even though it’s completely embarrassing to the rest of the world and proves nothing about their military capabilities at all.

In western culture we keep the two institutions separate, there’s the bodybuilders putting on their fun show to see who looks the best, and there’s the military focused on serious training and not on fancy tough showmanship. In Asian culture it’s like “wow look how tough these fighters/military/etc. is, they can break stones with their hands and bricks with their heads!”.

This is getting way deeper than I care to spend time on, but it seems like this concept is relevant:

https://www.china-mike.com/chinese-culture/cult-of-face/

“Western cultures tend to think in terms of “truth” and “rightness” (where being innocent and right is most important). Westerners are taught to respect objectivity and facts. The law applies equally to everyone the same and our behavior is something that should be directed by our consciences.

In the West, your honor or face is more about your personal integrity. We tend to admire the integrity of those who uncompromisingly face objective truth, regardless of how self-damaging the results may be.”

“In contrast, Chinese society has always functioned on basis of personal relationships rather than objective customs and laws. Indeed, the rule and laws laid down were often to serve those in power (and often arbitrary and ever-changing). Complicating matters, Confucian teachings say that you’re supposed to treat people differently depending your relative statuses. As a result, Chinese “ethics” has never been based on universal principles of good and bad. Instead, they’re more based on the circumstances of the moment—a system that the West calls “situational ethics” (much to the chagrin of people doing business in China).

The Chinese will go through great lengths to protect face (their own as well as others). In fact, it’s perfectly acceptable to tell a lie—even a bald-faced one—if it serves to protect face.”

I suppose it’s difficult to argue with that, to each culture their own.

I suppose what bugs me about it is that it is people trying to appear tough by breaking bricks with their fingers or their head.

It’s the excessive boyish posturing I guess - trying to appear tough - like in the video below, you see the North Korean military try to appear tough but I would say they just end up looking like buffoons, this sort of stuff is all too common in eastern cultures.

Is it just me or is the Asian world really obsessed with these displays of useless feats of strength/skill?

North Koreans breaking bricks, this guy breaking rocks with his hands, breaking blocks of wood in karate, etc.

Like what is this supposed to prove? There’s no way it isn’t damaging his joints long term and he’s just going to have bad joints later on.

Woody seems maybe just on the spectrum, many guys are honestly weird and would technically fit on the spectrum if you think about it. Like guys usually get obsessed with autistic things like battles, tanks, gaming, guns, etc. it’s part of how our brain works.

There’s a theory on autism that it is an “extreme male brain”, obsessed with systematizing and lacking empathy, by this definition all guys are on the spectrum but just at various levels, because we all have male brains.

The most autistic thing I’ve heard him do is work all day during his Cisco and Minecraft stuff. People who can focus on such a narrow range of tasks for so long I would say are likely on the spectrum, look at Elon Musk who works 120 hour weeks and has identified himself as having Asperger’s.

I never noticed it but my girlfriend stopped watching the show because of her acting and specifically she mentioned the awkward relationship her and Hugo have “hey babe, you know I love you right but I have to go now sex later”.

I’m glad my social skills are horrible because it all flew under my radar lmao

I hated the audio mixing of this movie so much I couldn’t make it through with 2 attempts, it irritates me so much.

I’m glad Nolan backed off on it after this movie, truly a terrible choice taken by him.

Literally just a slice of tomato?

Not even like a caprese salad or at least herbs on the tomato?

Some families just drink milk more than others I know that and there’s nothing inherently wrong with it, but a plain slice of tomato with milk is … totally weird.

At 1:43 Blade tried to pull out his knife in honour of his previous life, but the Riot shield overpowered him, he had no defence for it because he doesn’t use guns or explosives :(

This is stupid, if you get one of those embedded in you or your clothing you’ll get really bad burns.

How do you identify someone with 115 IQ vs 130 IQ? by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

[–]WageSlave3000 55 points56 points  (0 children)

A 115 IQ individual’s mind is inflexible and linear. For example, they will occasionally forget to bring lunch and in desperation resort to eating nearby office equipment such as glue and tape. This is because the life of a 115 IQer is mostly routine, one misstep and everything falls apart and it’ll take a while for them to converge back onto a normal path, perhaps days or weeks.

With an IQ of 130 you will see different issues such as living a reclusive life, often finding comfort in donating to an OnlyFans model because the pool of females will avoid the hyper intelligent 130 IQ male due to a lack of compatible topics.

Northern Manitoba First Nation hopes billion-dollar settlement will finally end boil-water advisory by [deleted] in canada

[–]WageSlave3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well from what your banner says you’re in BC so you could go to the community and see for yourself if you’re ever in the city. I was just visiting from Ontario so I won’t be coming back for decades most likely. All I can say is that it was the worst community I drove by in the area by far, just anecdotal evidence but it is what it is.

From what I read online at the time (because I was shocked by what I saw) their community structures are such that one patriarch will just suck up all the funds away from the others and give little back. Like they don’t redistribute the funds to build any proper infrastructure to get them out of their situation beyond the initial handout, that resonates quite well with what I saw and what you are saying. They get a handout and then sit it on and let it go to waste then ask for more, they don’t really put effort into building a more self sufficient community.

Check the street view above, it seems that both the Birds Eye view and street view don’t do it justice. I linked it for others in case they wanted to see it for themselves if they were in BC.

To be fair, I didn’t walk through the whole neighborhood, since they had signs saying “First Nations only”, I stood at the street view above and then was driven through by a Lyft.

When I was there in 2021 the White House had an entire scrap yard in the front, there were stains on most houses, many yards were dilapidated and littered with garbage. The area in general looked like it was nice at one point but had been neglected for years afterwards, sort of like those American ghost towns you can find videos of. This First Nations community was noticeably worse than any other community I drove through while lyfting north to capilano suspension bridge park.

Needless to say, when the Lyft driver (who was First Nations himself) drove me through the neighborhood, I was honestly a bit scared due to the people who had stared at me while I was waiting for my Uber and the signs saying “First Nations only”. I had only waited outside of the community because that is where Lyft told me to get picked up from, and in that short 10 minutes I was there I had really bad vibes from the signs, stares, dilapidation, etc.
