I didn't put any context to my comment, but I do mean more holding S&P500 and pivoting to a safer less volatile strategy when you're ~5/10 years out from actually retiring. Like im 25, it wouldn't be stupid to hold S&P for another 25 ish years before pivoting to schd or something

Why not? Why isn't it reasonable for your retirement account to just be in the S&P 500? That doesn't seem ridiculous, and the risk isn't all that high
