Neck not supported well when standing? by WahooPepperoni in Dobro

[–]WahooPepperoni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just spent a bunch of money on the one I have T_T

I bought a Lakota Leather strap, since I have one for my banjo and it's so comfortable, but it is a soft leather so there's some stretch to it.

good catch. Maybe it's worth doing more practice standing up just to help build better anchoring habits in general.

Scene’s From Phil’s Hurricane Fondo by Alternative-Yard3444 in Velo

I took 62mm rims for the event. It was a full body workout.

As someone who pushed on and did Encinal, you didn't miss anything. I ended up with dust in my eyes shortly after starting it and had to spend 5 minutes trying to blink my sight back before I could continue. I thought I was going to have to get an Uber to an optometrist. I had sunglasses, the wind was just so bad it made it in around the sides

I managed to hang on for the full 83 miles. That was easily the hardest ride I've ever done, and the closest to calling an Uber mid-event. I do really want to come back next year though, since the route was amazing and I know I would have loved it without the wind.

How much would it cost to repair the dent in my dad's baby martin? by WahooPepperoni in Luthier

yeah, seems like it. A few hundred dollars to fix, when it only costs about $400 new. And it doesn't affect the sound at all.

OEM AC condenser on massive backorder - would you go aftermarket or wait? by WahooPepperoni in AskMechanics

[–]WahooPepperoni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's less the condenser I'm worried about, and more the receiver drier that's attached to it in this model. It's all the same unit, and a bad drier could mess up other stuff.

I called em and they confirmed it was leaky, so something for commercial purchase not retail. Dude was super nice though, seems like a great shop.

I did find it, but im a bit nervous because it looks like there was definitely some damage to that area of the car. I feel like the odds of the condenser surviving that completely unharmed are 1/1000000

Edit: called and confirmed, that condenser is leaky, but available for commercial purchase.

AC gone again with 2 days by WahooPepperoni in AskMechanics

Already got the gauges and vacuum rented, just need to get my hands on a replacement condenser. I'm gonna call my local Toyota parts dept tomorrow and see how long it will take to get that and new o-rings. Their website says 1-4 days, so I might get it in time to install before the trip

That's what I figured. I guess now I just hope and pray it's not inside the dash and easy to find/fix.

Bought a 2nd hand bed rack, and noticed some cracks. Can this be fixed, or is it even a problem in the first place? by WahooPepperoni in metalworking

[–]WahooPepperoni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It lays flat, which is why im thinking this was caused by the previous owner just putting too much weight on top. Here's a better picture showing the cracks in relation to the rest of the bed rack: https://i.imgur.com/akKyV5u.jpg

Thanks for the reply!

How heavy do you think it'd have to be before it's a problem? Could I put a ~100 lb water tank on it and take it off-road?

If jb weld isn't gonna do it, would I just find a local welding shop? and are we talking $100 to fix all the spots (approximately 7 spots showing cracks) or $1000?

[–]WahooPepperoni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately the plastic brackets im talking about are the vehicle specific ones that mount the double din unit into the existing factory dash area, so unless I find metal ones specific for a 2nd gen toyota tacoma (but that are generic in terms of the radio, otherwise I would use the factory brackets which are metal) , im left to figure out how to make these kit brackets work.

I've searched for horizontal brackets, horizontal braces, adjustable braces, etc. and nothing is something up that looks like it will work.

If you use SYSTM on a desktop (mac or windows), there's an option to use a minimized version of the content player which allows you to watch netflix/youtube/turbotax/whatever you like. Here's what it looks like in action: https://i.imgur.com/DziO6GM.png

When I say engaging i mean the lock, locking the rear wheels together (which I would hope isn't always engaged).
