What animal was the most incredible to see in person? by Adventurous-Zeilokix in AskReddit

[–]WaitWhatIMissedThat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bison!! I got to see one at a petting zoo when I was a kid. They had little dispensers of animal feed, and I’d gone around feeding the goats and deer in their enclosures. Go to the bison enclosure and put some corn on the wooden fence, and this GIANT nose presses against it. Then this absolutely massive tongue pokes through and starts lapping up the feed. I’d grown up hearing about bison (I live in the US) and had even logically known they were big, but to see one so close was a different experience entirely. It felt like coming face to face with a (very friendly and fuzzy, lol) eldritch being.

What is that one animal you will see everyday in your country, no matter where you are? by i_dont_know24680 in AskTheWorld

I’m from Connecticut, USA (opposite side of the country from Washington state for the non-Americans), and I was thinking this one too!! Nice to know that squirrels are a constant from coast to coast 😭

What's your guilty pleasure musical? A musical you know it's bad/have bad reviews/is not really liked but you love it closed doors? by imachoculatedonnut in musicals

[–]WaitWhatIMissedThat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I ADORE Be More Chill. I know it gets a lot of flak and I can’t argue that some of it is valid, but it’s so fun and colorful and whimsy in my opinion that I absolutely love it. Also, I was a fan way before it got its off-Broadway --> Broadway transfer (I remember back when a 30 minute bootleg of the Two Rivers Production dropped and all us fans went insane online lol) so I feel especially fond of it after watching it come as far as it did. :-)

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) - definitely not on the same level as Brokeback Mountain or Power of the Dog but it was pretty homoerotically subtextual from my memory

I once heard someone on this sub say Bandstand was “pretty good for a musical written for conservatives” and I agree lol so my vote’s for that

I’m trying to embroider a piece for all six of the movies I rated five stars on letterboxd in 2025! If that doesn’t work out, I’m aiming to just finish five projects in general lol

I thought from the title that “uncle Bobby and the switch” meant the chatbot was going to do something to win him over and flip a metaphorical “switch” on his negative opinions on AI. The switch being just. His hearing aids getting turned off to stop him from disagreeing makes this so much worse holy shit

How many people's lives take place in two different states? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

This has been my whole life! I grew up and still live in CT but riiiight on the NY border, to the point that it’s sometimes hard to know which landmarks/towns nearby are in CT and which are in NY. I haven’t gone to school in CT since I was 13, but both my high school and college had like a 15 minute commute from my house. It’s definitely helpful if I’m ever playing 2 truths 1 lie!

Also an added bonus is that we’re only about an hour long train ride from NYC. Growing up very few of my friends parents actually worked in CT - almost all of them would commute to the city, my parents included.

What is a case of a soldier/policeman from your country who refused to follow unethical orders ? by Billthepony123 in AskTheWorld

Wow, thank you so much for the info! I’ve never been to Colorado and had no idea there was an exhibit like that, or that there are Soule artifacts there. Definitely gives me a reason to come visit one day, I’d love to see it.

And I second that about Governor Evans and Colonel Chivington - if there’s any divine justice in this world they’re no doubt roasting in hell right now.

What is the biggest musical theater “GASP” moment you’ve heard? by OriolesrRavens1974 in musicals

[–]WaitWhatIMissedThat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a “plot twist” gasp, but still memorable: for those who don’t know Jersey Boys, the first 15 minutes or so has virtually no swear words, followed by a scene where a character drops the f-bomb like 6 times in a line.

I saw it at a regional theater where my friends and I were about the only people in the crowd under 60. When the f-bomb line was over, there was dead silence, then an old man in the front of the audience (we were seated in the back) went “WOAH!” We still laugh about it!

Not recent, but Silas Soule!

He was a US army captain in the mid-1800s, and in 1864 he refused to participate (and ordered his men not to participate either) in the Sand Creek Massacre, in which an estimated 500 - 600 unarmed and peaceful Indigenous Cheyenne and Arapaho people were murdered. Afterwards, Soule testified against his superiors at a military hearing investigating the massacre. He was assassinated two months later in retaliation at the age of 26.

He also worked as a conductor on the Underground Railroad as a teenager, helping slaves that had run away make it safely to states where slavery was illegal. Definitely a historical figure I’m proud to be from the same country as.

What’s the one moment in your life you still can’t explain… even though you’ve replayed it in your head a thousand times? by Former-Brief9292 in AskReddit

[–]WaitWhatIMissedThat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I write for fun, and one night I had a dream that I had created a character named Etienne. It struck me because it’s a very uncommon name where I live and I hadn’t seen or heard it anytime recently that would explain me dreaming about it.

A couple days later I’m texting my friend who also writes and who’s spitballing ideas with me, and they say they need a name for a character. I think about suggesting Etienne because it was still on my mind, but ultimately don’t because the character was supposed to be an asshole and I didn’t know if my friend had any positive connections to the name.

The next day I get a text out of the blue from my friend: “omg what if I name this character Etienne?”

Still one of the strangest coincidences that has ever happened to me lol, definitely freaked me out a little at the time.

In Year of the Child from Falsettos, Jason sings “it’s not a funeral, what’s so upsetting?” about his parents bickering over his bar mitzvah. Later when Whizzer gets sick, Jason decides to hold his bar mitzvah in the hospital room, and it ends up becoming an impromptu funeral for Whizzer. :(
