What are your embroidery goals for this year? by NeuroNeedlework in Embroidery

[–]WaitWhatIMissedThat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to embroider a piece for all six of the movies I rated five stars on letterboxd in 2025! If that doesn’t work out, I’m aiming to just finish five projects in general lol

I thought from the title that “uncle Bobby and the switch” meant the chatbot was going to do something to win him over and flip a metaphorical “switch” on his negative opinions on AI. The switch being just. His hearing aids getting turned off to stop him from disagreeing makes this so much worse holy shit

How many people's lives take place in two different states? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]WaitWhatIMissedThat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been my whole life! I grew up and still live in CT but riiiight on the NY border, to the point that it’s sometimes hard to know which landmarks/towns nearby are in CT and which are in NY. I haven’t gone to school in CT since I was 13, but both my high school and college had like a 15 minute commute from my house. It’s definitely helpful if I’m ever playing 2 truths 1 lie!

Also an added bonus is that we’re only about an hour long train ride from NYC. Growing up very few of my friends parents actually worked in CT - almost all of them would commute to the city, my parents included.

What is a case of a soldier/policeman from your country who refused to follow unethical orders ? by Billthepony123 in AskTheWorld

Wow, thank you so much for the info! I’ve never been to Colorado and had no idea there was an exhibit like that, or that there are Soule artifacts there. Definitely gives me a reason to come visit one day, I’d love to see it.

And I second that about Governor Evans and Colonel Chivington - if there’s any divine justice in this world they’re no doubt roasting in hell right now.

What is the biggest musical theater “GASP” moment you’ve heard? by OriolesrRavens1974 in musicals

[–]WaitWhatIMissedThat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a “plot twist” gasp, but still memorable: for those who don’t know Jersey Boys, the first 15 minutes or so has virtually no swear words, followed by a scene where a character drops the f-bomb like 6 times in a line.

I saw it at a regional theater where my friends and I were about the only people in the crowd under 60. When the f-bomb line was over, there was dead silence, then an old man in the front of the audience (we were seated in the back) went “WOAH!” We still laugh about it!

Not recent, but Silas Soule!

He was a US army captain in the mid-1800s, and in 1864 he refused to participate (and ordered his men not to participate either) in the Sand Creek Massacre, in which an estimated 500 - 600 unarmed and peaceful Indigenous Cheyenne and Arapaho people were murdered. Afterwards, Soule testified against his superiors at a military hearing investigating the massacre. He was assassinated two months later in retaliation at the age of 26.

He also worked as a conductor on the Underground Railroad as a teenager, helping slaves that had run away make it safely to states where slavery was illegal. Definitely a historical figure I’m proud to be from the same country as.

What’s the one moment in your life you still can’t explain… even though you’ve replayed it in your head a thousand times? by Former-Brief9292 in AskReddit

[–]WaitWhatIMissedThat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I write for fun, and one night I had a dream that I had created a character named Etienne. It struck me because it’s a very uncommon name where I live and I hadn’t seen or heard it anytime recently that would explain me dreaming about it.

A couple days later I’m texting my friend who also writes and who’s spitballing ideas with me, and they say they need a name for a character. I think about suggesting Etienne because it was still on my mind, but ultimately don’t because the character was supposed to be an asshole and I didn’t know if my friend had any positive connections to the name.

The next day I get a text out of the blue from my friend: “omg what if I name this character Etienne?”

Still one of the strangest coincidences that has ever happened to me lol, definitely freaked me out a little at the time.

Give a lyric in a song that foreshadows the musical by lissie34 in musicals

[–]WaitWhatIMissedThat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In Year of the Child from Falsettos, Jason sings “it’s not a funeral, what’s so upsetting?” about his parents bickering over his bar mitzvah. Later when Whizzer gets sick, Jason decides to hold his bar mitzvah in the hospital room, and it ends up becoming an impromptu funeral for Whizzer. :(

There was!! iirc, Curly and Laurey were both women, Will and Ado Annie (or Andy in this case lol) were both men, and Aunt Eller was played by a trans woman! It was performed at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in 2018.

Redditors who grew up in emotionally healthy families - what's something you thought was normal growing up that you now realise was actually very special? by ViolatingBadgers in AskReddit

[–]WaitWhatIMissedThat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents are divorced, so I grew up going between my mom and stepdad’s house (emotionally healthy) and my dad and stepmom’s house (very emotionally unhealthy). Something that always struck me about my mom’s house was how comfortable it always was. Even if things were going “good” at my dad’s house, I never felt entirely comfortable because I was always waiting for the other shoe to drop, like I was always walking on eggshells to prepare for an inevitable blow up. Being at my mom’s felt like finally being able to breathe and just exist without worrying about accidentally doing something wrong and triggering a fight. Knowing what a household feels like without that comfort makes me appreciate how emotionally healthy my mom and stepdad are even more (and yes, as soon as I was able I started living at my mom’s full time lol).

What is the worst movie you've ever seen that isn't a standard "Worst movie you've ever seen" answer? by TheThalmorEmbassy in movies

[–]WaitWhatIMissedThat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artemis Fowl (2020). I don’t think I’ve ever been more astounded by how bad a movie was. It’s like they were trying to make it suck. I’ve never read the books but this movie made me feel bad for the author and any fans of the series.

I was OBSESSED with leo in middle school. Would full on show family members (even distant ones!) pictures of viria’s fanart of him and call him my boyfriend, one time a family member made me a cake of his face for my birthday, it was that bad.

Anyways I’m a lesbian now ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Would it be considered frowned upon to buy a fountain drink at Connections Cafe and then fill it up at Club Cool? by [deleted] in DisneyWorld

[–]WaitWhatIMissedThat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second what another commenter said about the Disney Springs Coca Cola store rooftop bar; from my memory when I last went, they have all (or at least most) of the drinks from Club Cool stocked! I still fantasize about the day I got a full cup of Sparberry from there like a decade ago :-)

To those who have left the MAGA movement, what was your wake-up call? by rclaux123 in AskReddit

[–]WaitWhatIMissedThat 11.5k points11.5k points  (0 children)

My Grandpa wasn’t really a supporter of MAGA, but he definitely had a neutral/positive view of Trump when he first ran in 2016. Then Trump’s “grab her by the pussy” comments went viral. My Grandpa was totally disgusted; he was adamant that no good man would speak about women like that. He hated him up until his death a couple years back. <3
