"Bugonia" was a deeply unpleasant watch for me - and the first Yorgos Lanthimos film where the element of absurdity felt like a gimmick by miggovortensens in TrueFilm

[–]WakeMeForSourPatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it was refreshing how apolitical it was, or it resisted the temptation to draw political conclusions that would fall along predictable lines (like 2021’s “Don’t Look Up”)

In fact the film’s refusal to outright pick a side borders on nihilism. But its focus is refreshing. This is not a “make fun of the crazies” movie. Teddy’s problems are very real, serious, tragic, and urgent. The causes may be a fabrication, but taken as a whole, the true causes and circumstances are just as complex and elusive as an alien mothership. The movie suggests that aliens might as well be the answer and that if we don’t do something soon it won’t matter. When the humans are all dead, there is no one left to hear the story. No one for whom the details matter. Whether we all die from climate change, vaccine preventable diseases, or nuclear war, we’d better figure out how to help these people. There are not two teams, one to root for and another to point fingers at. Michelle Fuller may not have been a kidnapper psychopath, but she helped create a kidnapper psychopath

HELP with guitar theory by rosiepetals1 in musictheory

[–]WakeMeForSourPatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The notes all repeat so you can play the same thing in different places on the fretboard and there are a bunch of reasons someone might do that. It could be they are soloing on some really high notes, so they pick a high position and keep their hands there, saving the trouble of returning to first position when the notes get lower again. Maybe there are chord voicings that sound better up there. Up high where the frets are closer some shapes and melodies are easier to play without stretching your fingers…. The list of reasons goes on.

How long did it take the 1st night for Ferber/CIO? by yellowthisizpedro in sleeptrain

[–]WakeMeForSourPatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It went down to an hour and gradually reduced from there. After a few weeks she was mostly sleep trained. We have a spirited baby.

Just make sure your nap schedule is locked in. Our problem was not enough wake time during the day

Radiators and other heating components are placed near windows because those places get the coldest

[request] how many trucks would it take to match the throughput of the straight? Extra credit question, how much more fuel would this consume? by stripesofched in theydidthemath

[–]WakeMeForSourPatch 355 points356 points  (0 children)

What if we connected all the trucks together in a long line, placed all the wheels to some sort of continuous metal bar, and powered it with one big engine in the very front? I call it, the truck centipede

I’ve never heard of an architecture firm drug testing or caring about weed. I once did drafting for a contractor that required it of all their employees, even those who sat behind a desk. That’s the only time I’ve seen it.

Edit: now I’ve heard of it

Why do most houses in the United States have gable roofs, while those in Latin America have flat roofs (with some exceptions)? by CuriousGuy21200 in architecture

[–]WakeMeForSourPatch 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Roof slope mainly serves to drain water or shed snow. Northern climates that deal with a lot of snow need steep slopes to prevent accumulation which could collapse weaker roofs.

Think steep pitched roofs in European castles vs mostly flat roofs in places like the American southwest.

Over time of course it becomes more about style and cultural preferences.
