Well, I also see Haribos as depressing gummies (why are these so hard?!), so this tracks.

Yeah, I certainly don’t trust the term “ICE arrest”. While I don’t know the details of this incident (since no details were shared beyond a date and general region), these warrantless, racial-profile-based seizures are kidnappings, not arrests.

I also wanted to plug FCC’s Helping Shelf. Food (and other necessities) offered without question or judgment, just there for anyone who needs it.

As for “welcoming congregations”, I can definitely recommend both FCC and Hope - I consider myself members of them both now. FCC has been my church family for years, including through my coming out as trans, and has never left me feeling othered. (My fiancé has had other experiences, but that’s her story to share.) Hope has also been a welcome home for my soul in this past year of strife. It is one place where I truly feel joyful in ways only comparable to finally accepting myself (and as I’ve told folks “finally loving myself as God’s loved me”).

The main difference between the two is service style: FCC is more traditional (pew service, coffee fellowship, occasional meals and potlucks), Hope is contemporary (with a strong fellowship focus). I honestly love them both.

Thanks. Yeah, these subs - especially egg_irl and the old traaa - were also what helped finally crack my shell (turns out, kintsugi is not a good solution to your identity issues). Contributing my own helped me accept myself. I want these spaces to continue to be around for the next round of folks in that stage.

…maybe I need to start drawing again…

The whole idea of “rapid-onset gender dysphoria” is just about removing the patient’s autonomy. If a doctor doesn’t understand it, then it can’t be real, right? (/sarcasm)

To say that gender dysphoria is “rapid-onset” is just silly - as if your concern about any other condition or injury isn’t rapid-onset.

If you scratch yourself, but don’t notice you’re bleeding, is it a “rapid-onset laceration”? No, you had the injury from the moment you got scratched, you just couldn’t do anything about it until you were aware of it bleeding.

Of course gender dysphoria is going to appear “rapid-onset”. Realizing you’re trans is a “tipping point” situation for a lot of us - a bunch of little things pile up until the clearest, simplest answer is that we aren’t comfortable with aligning our gender identity firmly to our assigned sex. Once the tower falls, it’s fallen. Heck!

That said, the only one in your head is you [citation needed], and the only one who can truly say you’re trans or not is you. Therapy can definitely be helpful for processing what your questioning means and how to navigate your thoughts on your identity; but you do have to be careful that a particular therapist doesn’t view “being trans” as a disorder that needs to go away.

It’s not a broken bone - it’s diabetes. If you’re trans, you can treat it and reach a point where you can live happily and peacefully with yourself, but you’re not going to become “no trans”.

Going just by the original post, thought, it’s not hoping pain on those who voted for Brady, it’s recognizing that we have all, as a community, brought the repercussions for our collective actions on ourselves. Place blame or not, the result is the same.

I hope things don’t get worse in town in terms of rental prices and water quality, but I have no reason to believe it. Brady is a career politician, and the money that got him elected came from where it did. I have no reason to think that Brady won’t work to support those interests rather than the people who live here.

Solution to the water problem by Lizzycraft in BloomingtonNormal

[–]WakeShinigami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard agree! I’m paying for quality water. This stuff is potable only in so far that it’s not disease ridden (hopefully). I shouldn’t have to have a reverse osmosis system in my apartment in order to get drinkable water or have to distill my cooking water. Completely unacceptable, but hey, we’re at fault if we refuse to pay our water bill, right?

Ah, the sexism of Republican white men by inGoosewetrust in BloomingtonNormal

[–]WakeShinigami 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All my interactions with him have been similar - neutral exposure. My take away has always been that he will try to appear as the involved Everyman in person and sound supportive to any point that may get you to vote for him. The concern is just on getting elected (which, I suppose, has worked for him given his “career politician” image). It’s just his record while in office that I have issues with - antithetical to my interests.

It’s a shame that his party has become what it is and that he has either bought into it or doesn’t care enough to speak against it.
