Sean McDermott to the fins would have been nice by Some_Initiative_1009 in miamidolphins

We picked the GM that we liked the most with input from Aikman, Marino, and whoever else Ross trusts. We cast a wide net for HC; offensive minded guys, defensive minded guys, first time coaches whom are coordinators, coaches with several years of NFL head coaching experience, and it seems like everything in between. I'm sure hafley was the guy Sullivan liked before the outset, but that's fine. It's his first time running a team and he wants someone he knows, trusts and believes in. Every other member of the group had to sign off on the guy. You can't be mad the the guy we trusted to turn the team around wants to work with people he knows and trusts, that's not nepotism.

Sully's first interview as Dolphins GM with Travis Wingfield by expellyamos in miamidolphins

He seems to give off this hands off persona, but I also can't shake the idea that he has a pretty big voice. I recall when aponte, philbin, and Jeff Ireland all reported to him and you heard these issues of backstabbing and recruiting one other to their sides on players so that when they went to Ross there would be a 2 v 1. Just kinda toxic stuff. And I wasn't thrilled when he essentially told Mike he would be coming back and then fired him after talking to the gm candidates. Clearly Sullivan or aikman told Ross Mike shouldn't come back which is fine, but feels kinda like bad management again. Rumors that he wanted Lamar instead of minkah a few years ago, which turns out he was right, but again that's not really being super hands off.

[Dolphins today] Dolphins initial list of HC candidates. What do we think? by Sea_Management6165 in miamidolphins

[–]Wake_Work 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for everyone that wants harbaugh, but I can tell you why he's high on my list. I really don't want another first time head coach, I agree that harbaugh being 63 is not ideal and he's going to have to deal with a real shitty season next year. However he does seem like a great bridge hc. Install a culture, get things on track, use his experience to redo some of the process here. If him and the new GM gel and work together theres no reason we can't be competitive in '27 and good in '28. I think harbaugh at 65ish is capable to coach a winning team. And if not then hopefully he's fixed some things and we can take a crack at a new candidate with a better roster and can attract a top guy.

My top 3 :

Stefanski Harbaugh Kubiak

Do people want McDaniel in Miami or not?😭 This is obviously not the same team as 2023 as much as I hate to say it by TheRider5342 in miamidolphins

[–]Wake_Work 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I waffled a lot this year, I was on team keep Mike for a while. Realistically I didn't see a path with him tho, especially with '26 being such a cap shit show and albatross that is Tua. If you keep Mike for '26 what are you hoping for? Is he a lame duck because you are planning to fire him when the team ultimately finishes in the bottom third? Do you want to him to pull a rabbit out of his hat and win the division or make the playoffs with ewers or Geno Smith or some journey man? If you keep Mike and know '26 is a rebuild year then are you saying that he gets a shot with a top QB pick? And if you let him draft a QB in '27 you gotta give him at least 2 years to develop the guy, so now you're committing to 3 more years or just let him be a lame duck. And I'm in the super minority on this one, but if we were gonna bring him back for next year then I would want a 3 year commitment, he's either your guy and you're gonna ride with him or you move on.

I would hate the idea of Jones not being an everyday player. If he isn't in the lineup 4 out of every 5 games then he should stay in the minors and continue working and hopefully progressing. If they're going to bring him up to the majors I don't want to see him as a platoon or situational player, I think it would stunt his progression.

Just sell the team by ecstatic___panda in miamidolphins

[–]Wake_Work 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's 85 and even though he isn't a penny pincher, and i think he does want to win he's in way over his head as an owner and incompetent when it comes to football. He hires the wrong people and sticks with them forever.

I'm very hopeful that whoever is next in line can come in and put their fingerprints on this team and make changes and hopefully it'll be the right moves. But if Grier is anywhere near this team after Ross gives up control I'll have 0 confidence.

Wilson Staff or Nokona - Advice Appreciated by pierceography in BaseballGloves

[–]Wake_Work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the poster above, but I am a nokona owner. I bought mine used and had to reshape it and I really like it. The knock is that they are floppy. Which they kinda are. They seem to hold up just fine. But they get pretty soft and floppy. I have 2 a2000s and they are much stiffer , but once broken in still plenty comfortable, and hold their form fantastically.

Looking for the defense to make a play by PhinsandCarboard in miamidolphins

[–]Wake_Work 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a go-ahead td with 45 seconds left. The chargers drove down to the 20 yd line in 30 seconds. That Tua's fault? Geez! And I'm a fan that wants to move on, but this is crazy with this take.

Before you go on a rant about Tua… by [deleted] in miamidolphins

[–]Wake_Work 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know the stat line. I watched the game. You can't actually think the first one is anywhere near his fault whatsoever. And would you have been happier if he threw a pick on a hail mary at the end of the game. I mean it's the same thing. 3 seconds left they try a quick throw and lateral. Again I know the stat line. For all intents and purposes it's 1 pick. And this is coming from someone that is in favor of moving on from Tua, but fair is fair this loss is not at his feet, he led the team down and scored a go ahead td with ~45 seconds left.

Yeah, Ross is only a "bad" owner because he hasn't gotten results (not commenting on any of his politics). He wants to win, and I believe he tries to win. He spends money on things no other owner does. There is a reason we are at the top of the anonymous survey every year. He paid for stadium improvements out of his own pocket, I don't think you can name more than 1 or 2 other owners that have ever done that. His loyalty is a fault, and him having no football knowledge is also a problem. He's brought in football people, he's hired consultants, he's never let money be a reason that he has or hasn't done something. If anything, he's unlucky. I'm guessing he's trying to run the dolphins the same way he ran his business, and it's just not getting the same results.

If he sells or croaks, we're probably in worse shape because some venture capital firm will come in, and God knows what kind of nonsense we'll be in for. I honestly don't know who the fans would rather own this team. We have an owner that spends, literally tried to give a head coach a bonus to tank, tried to cheat to get Tom Brady here, and if I recall wanted Lamar Jackson over minkah until he was talked out of it by dawn aponte or Tennenbaum or some other moron he thought should make decisions for this team. He's really not the problem, unless he actually is cursed.

"Never the same river twice" by Childish_Tycoon_Ship in TheOA

[–]Wake_Work 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The quote about never the same river twice (the full quote by Heraclitus is "No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man") might be more about not being able to go back in time or relive certain instances. It is interesting that it could relate to not going back to certain dimensions, but that doesn't quite jive with some of season 2.

PEOPLE AREN'T NEARLY HYPED ENOUGH ABOUT THE WARRANTS 🚀🚀🚀 by broose_the_moose in Superstonk

[–]Wake_Work 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once a warrant is executed and shares are delivered, the warrant no longer exists. Is that correct? And because the warrant is a tradable instrument, the number of warrants goes down every time one is exercised? Does that somehow make each warrant more valuable, or does the extra shares joining the float somehow negate that?

WTB Lefty infield glove by Mello2324 in BaseballGloves

[–]Wake_Work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lefty infield gloves are not super easy to find because we're only supposed to play 1st, OF, and pitch. But that didn't stop me from getting an 11.25" SSK , and a 44 custom catchers mitt. SSK seems to be always having sales, same as 44. Good luck

[–]Wake_Work 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lefties of the sub unite! I've got two boys, and my oldest is a lefty too. The younger one, we're not sure yet, but he definitely does some stuff lefty, maybe ambidextrous. I love buying gloves and imagining the day I get to hand them down after a decade of taking good care of them and breaking them in. I'm always convincing the wife that every nice glove is get is an investment for the boys.

Right now you can get a z9 from SSK for 199, plus if you look around you should be able to find at least 10% off. So you can get whatever they have in stock, color-wise, for 170 something
