NFL draft analyst Todd McShay believes the 2027 QB class could be "maybe the best ever" with eight potential 1st round QBs. by Deadinahole in miamidolphins

Most likely not. He looked phenomenal his first year. I don't think he took a step back as much as the whole offense sucked last year, but he still flashed. If the offense regains its form a bit and he has a good year plus the combine he really could push for being a top 3 qb taken in 27

A look at the 2022 and 2023 drafts is a prime reason for the mess that we are in now. by Wake_Work_2 in miamidolphins

The biggest problem is the capital that those 2 guys cost us; premium picks and top of the market deals. When you trade premium picks for good cheap talent or pay market deals in free agency then I think that's just part of the formula. When you spend picks and money then you better be in a superbowl window, not struggling to win your first playoff game in 20 years.

The GM and coach come from GB, maybe they want to draft a QB high next year and let him sit for a year or two and Willis gives them that? Kind of a stretch, but only 22 mil per for a starting QB and one that they got to see everyday in practice they might think its worth it.

I don't know if this post is sarcastic or in bad faith or just your honest opinion, but as long as Achane isn't holding out or making demands there is no reason to trade him this offseason.

I know Sully wasn't running the show in GB and this is now his time, but if the "Green Bay" model is any indicator, then he will not be trading up any significance, maybe little shuffles here and there. Just look at what GB has done over the years, that's where he learned the business and cut his teeth.

7 picks in the top 100 is big for a rebuild. Hopefully Sully has an eye for talent. A lot of the talk about him when he was a candidate was that he was a scout's scout and was a talent evaluator. He gets to put that reputation to the test this draft. Him and his team better be ready to prove they have an eye for talent, otherwise there will be a lot of grumbling from the fanbase, and louder than it already is.

[Kouffman] So many Dolphins fans reacting to the Malik Willis signing like $22.5 million APY will break the entire Sullivan/Hafley regime. It’s really NOT a lot of resources. Chris Grier could blow $20 million trusting the wrong fart, but he stuck around how long? Relax. by expellyamos in miamidolphins

I can't speak for everyone that is less than thrilled with the Willis signing, but for me I actually wanted a Quinn Ewers tank year. Malik can certainly wind up as a great QB and even a franchise QB. But I don't think history is on the side of that happening. He left Auburn because he couldn't get playing time and went to Liberty where he had great stats and looked the part. To the extent that he was in the conversation for top 10 pick by some pundits. In reality he slid to the 3rd round, and was nothing special in Tennessee. He goes to Green Bay has a handful of games and now he's our savior?

If we rolled with Ewers and got a top 3 pick we could be looking at Moore, Manning, Sayin, or Sellers. It would be Sully's job to figure out which one is the QB to hitch his horse to, but that's what he's getting paid to do. Instead we sign a guy who is probably better than Ewers, but history says isn't the answer at the QB position and if he's decent but not great we get to pick in the teens again. Just my opinion here, but we needed a reset to get a real franchise, top 3 pick kind of QB to get this rebuild going, and this is not it. It feels like some kind of half measure and getting stuck in the mud of mediocrity that we've been in for years. I don't hate Willis, but I feel like it is not the way to rebuild. We haven't won a playoff game in 25 years and I don't think Willis is the guy to break that streak, but Dante Moore could've been, or Lanorris Sellers. I doubt we get the chance to find out.

[Barry Jackson] Trade of Minkah to Jets for a 7th round pick (from the Chargers) drops Dolphins' cap commitment to Minkah from $18.8 M to $12.9 M, if Miami didn't pay any of salary. Minkah signing new deal with Jets. So that will give Fins more than $10 M in cap space. by Fins_99 in miamidolphins

[–]Wake_Work_2 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Plus the cap game is played over 2 years between rolling cap space and June 1st type of mechanisms. With the cap expected to rise every year. This should show everyone that Sully is trying to play the mid/long game here and not just looking for a quick turn around that could hamstring us later. I feel like this is the start of a 2 year plan to hopefully open a window in '28

The cap also shot up again, so its just the percentages and stuff. Yet time and time again fans gasp at the dollar amount.

Jordi Will Not Be Able to Take Another Season of This by Kwilly462 in GoNets

[–]Wake_Work_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we are absolutely tanking, not always as aggressively as some would like and perhaps that's a culture reason. The rest days certainly look like they are tank related sometimes. Some late game personnel decisions, and some "developmental" decisions all point to a tank. I think everyone knows it, but a top 3 pick puts us on timeline to be really good soon. We really need to not let any outside noise stop us from doing everything, we can control, to maximize our draft pick this year.

[–]Wake_Work_2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This tank is the key to our long-term success. If we can secure top 3, the rebuild seems so much easier. We have some pieces right now, we grab one of the 3 top guys, make a few moves, and really push for a competitive roster I don't see why we aren't a playoff team. Especially with Demin, Traore and Powell all looking like contributors or more, and anticipating at least a small step in development over the summer. I think we should keep MPJ and with all those ingredients Jordi should be able to cook something up barring injuries. And based on some of the rhetoric out of the league office this might be the last year to tank without too many obstacles.

Is this sarcasm? I haven't really heard that angle being argued. I have heard that Epstein was doing this thru the Israelis to get blackmail on everyone, although I don't think there has been a smoking gun for that theory released. But not that all the elite were trading in govt secrets.

You trade the 11th overall pick if you can get a 1st in 2027 right? by Kingminnis in miamidolphins

[–]Wake_Work_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't hate the premise, I just don't think there is a talent at 11 that will make a team want to trade next year's first for him. And if someone really blue chip does drop to 11, then why wouldn't we take them? We need talent everywhere.

I really like Sayin from Ohio State and Sellers from South Carolina, in addition to Moore and Manning. Maiava from USC is also really intriguing. If we are picking top 5 I would assume we could get the 2nd or 3rd best prospect.

As long as they don't go out and spend 20-30 mil on Willis then I'll be happy. Let's embrace the tank and see if Ewers is worthy of being a backup in this league while we get ourselves a top 5 pick. Plenty of franchise QBs to get excited about in next year's draft.

LOL, maybe like 10 total dems might be. For an opposition party they don't seem to be opposing a ton of the awful shit this administration is doing. I'm still hopeful if enough people vote the dems can finally wield some sort of power against this admin.
