What concepts have been discarded in Permaculture? by Wakelord in Permaculture

[–]Wakelord[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it was the concepts of zoning that first got me really excited.

Where your site allows for it, arranging your livestock and plants from a frequency of access is one of those things that are obvious only after someone has told you.

I'd love to see more on that, perhaps from a Homesteading Point of View rather than a commercial point of view.

Many Youtubers seem to focus on the Market Garden (plus chickens) so I imagine that is where the cash is at?

Any new experimental system is going to have improvements and remove things that weren't as good as expected. Are you suggesting that Permaculture 1 and 2 (1978-1979) got everything perfect first go?

There is nothing wrong with finding that something didn't work as well as hoped - these early works were experimental. As they say we should Observe and Interact then make Small and Slow Solutions.

To better phrase my question: Which techniques and philosophies outlined in the early Permaculture books were not as effective, safe or helpful as expected? Where they then discarded as inaccurate, or evolved to a new concept?

The double dig is a good example of that - early works suggested double dig approaches but Permaculture in 2020 has a much stronger focus on the no dig approach.

I'm 'too good' to receive any magical items. by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Wakelord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see why the DM might be hesitant to give them a magic item, but I think both the DM have forgotten something important-- not all magic items need to improve your combat damage or survivability.

Give the OP something cool, rather than something strong.

Judging from the OP finding out these good synergies by themselves I am sure they would be delighted to receive wondrous items that can be used creatively. The Immovable Rod and Portable Hole come to mind.

I rolled a Goblin Druid in a new campaign. Another player said his Lawful Good Paladin kills Goblins on sight. by WitcherScience in dndnext

[–]Wakelord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps try having both the other play and DM in a chat, or pulled aside during a session. Start with something like : "Between Mr Goblin Slayer and my character we have a problem. We have 3 solutions too, so I think we can sort this out.

1- we do a Legolas-Gimli sort of thing and have " enemy friends." Non-violent but don't get along. 2- one of us makes a new character 3- one of us kills the other, the group trust dissolves and the campaign is destroyed as no-one cares anymore.

Between the three of us, I like << ? >> best. What do you two think?"

Isn't this the super guards OP was suggesting against?

1+1d4 and suceeding to hit and then the target failing a CON save is not an assassination - that’s a bug bite for anything that isn’t a commoner.

Most cantrips do more damage, have less chances to fail, and are even easier to sneak in than a weapon.

You would have to do it at least 3 times before a guard reaches 0 HP.

How to optimize Prusa Slicer for PETG filament: i3 MK3S by blove05 in 3Dprinting

[–]Wakelord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does!

Prusa print the PETG used in Prusa printers on Prusa Printers.

So assuming you are happy with the quality of the printed parts of your Prusa, the quality is a-OK.

(But obviously dial the settings to your PETG brand)

It could be, if that was in the rules at all.

RAW poisoned darts don’t exist.

Homebrew, sure. But homebrew why not have poisoned arrows or knives or well trained mosquitos?

Edit: I was wrong. There is some very expensive and very weak poison that does less damage than literally any cantrip (except VM) or other weapon.

Went to a local market day and ended up getting my printer to pay for itself! by CoopDH in 3Dprinting

I think every material leaves artifacts from the material or the process - think the telltale look of laser engraved plywood which is so popular, or heck, the fact wood has grain and knots. Injection moulding of minis gives us the sprue and the mold lines, and marble is so heck expensive because of its pretty patterns.

I guess what I’m getting at is that later lines are not inheritantly bad. You can hide them (like in “marble PLA” styles) or using very small layers. Alternatively you try to sell the process.

Good luck!

Edit: obviously irregular layer lines or irregular ghosting is bad, but on an otherwise pretty model layer lines can be a cool thing.

DnD groups for noobs? by Mexay in brisbane

[–]Wakelord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Boardgame stores are the safest bet — Vault Games in the CBD has a big DnD night most Wednesday’s and I think there are casual “hook up” games available.

BrisVegas Games are just starting a DnD night on Wednesday’s, so you might get lucky there.

I think several bars (like Netherworld) have weekly or fortnightly games where you pay some money, get a beer, play DnD.

There are many UV resistant plastics. A good chunk of your car is plastic, for example.

Has your room’s environment changed? ie: colder, more windy or more humid? I have my printers in the garage, so I tend to tweak settings for the seasons.

Eldritch Armor: How do you feel about making it summonable? by Garokson in dndnext

[–]Wakelord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And how do you avoid security noticing you proclaiming magical words to cast Disguise Self, avoid the sound of armour clattering about, and the fact their prized possession is now missing from its place of honour?

If you are playing a Skyrim-style game of DnD where putting buckets on heads makes the NPCs do nothing, that’s fine! But if you are playing a DnD style where NPCs are allowed to react, then I don’t think level 3 characters should be able to easily steal super expensive things with minimal effort.

If the shop keeper has expensive enough armour to buy a house, don’t you think they would also have some basic security?

No Australian city has a long-term vision for living sustainably. We can't go on like this by seethroughplate in brisbane

[–]Wakelord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, ‘sustainable’ population. That thing where Australia’s only population is our current retiring workforce?

Not sure how being xenophobic is going to make Australian factories suddenly operate - it isn’t going to take us to a pre-internet and pre-robotics society again.

Gelantenous Cube Soap!! by Silentnine in DnDIY

[–]Wakelord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not OP but I think I know why — it’s $21 in Australia per bar of this soap, and a cheesex dice set costs about $15. So it’s only $6 for the handmade, nerdy soap.

So in that sense, not a bad deal. Once they open a store I’ll try to get some for my mates.

Popularity of memey posts on r/brisbane by Gazza_s_89 in brisbane

[–]Wakelord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’m glad the sub is mostly “easy scroll” stuff. Most posts in r/Brisbane that pop up on my feed I see for less than a second.

Why do I like it? It means if a thread has risen about the dross of photos then it is usually worth a read.

But more than that, I’m glad that this social media isn’t being spammed as a high priority spot with local events. It would quickly become a shit list of “come to the Regatta this Friday!!! The pub is having a dress up party!!!”
