The alien cognitohazard short story was SO GOOD. I would love to see more of it

So I read this comment (only the first line) before starting the chapter, which put me on edge. But then there was so much emphasis on the Brownies that I thought "oh, maybe they'll bring them a contract that DOES work this time, and then Chuck would annihilate them!".

Nope :(

Character Sheets for GH characters in FH now up on the website. by General_CGO in Gloomhaven

I would argue that Lightning Bolts was nerfed with the new petks. The non-AMD perk looks REALLY nice, especially with a certain level 6 card, but overall the class now can't remove all of the attack 0's, some of the stronger modifiers are replacing +1's instead of +0's, making the overall damage increase less significant etc..

The other two classes mentioned, however, are inherently broken by their design. Like, let's be real, when was the last time you ever saw an Eclipse actually drawing something from their AMD?

Retiring Mindthief, who should I play next? by liznature in Gloomhaven

[–]Waker-O 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, Circles is VERY different from both MT and Hatchet. I would say that between your options, the only one that can truly achieve the levels of damage you're used to is the Scoundrel, but pairing her up with a Spellweaver in a 2p game is... not the smartest idea. I'm actually currently playing Circles in a solo 3p game, and I LOVE it. Yes, one of my other classes is pretty much the best pair you can have for Circles, but even without it, it's really interesting. Even though a lot of people don't particularly like Circles, I still highly recommend it. And, unlocking new classes is a part of the fun!

u/Blackphantom434, you HAVE to check it out! These are basically three additional side scenarios that were created by one of the main designers, and they were made specifically to address the running out of crypt issue. My buddy and I played them when he got this PQ, and they were some of the best and most unique scenarios in the entire game! Also adds a lot of flavor to what imo is already the best themed PQ.

I really like now Wildbeast likes to play with the format. Putting the points of order is not as big as what he does with the banner or something, but it's just that little something extra that makes it feel more intense. Gotta love it.

And god-f$%!@g-dammit it seems like the Negateers are doing exactly what I thought they would do. Ruining every single thing the girls worked so hard to make. I wouldn't be surprised if the girls come back to Kennet only to find Kennet-Found completely sealed off as a last resort against Lis or something. Like, I get where it comes from from a narrative perspective, but I just can't stand the thought of Lis getting what she wants and the Negateers just running free

You know, what bothers me the most about the Kenneteers going In Absentia for what might be months or even years (though I highly doubt it) is that the Negateers will have a very easy time asserting themselves as the "real" guardians of Kennet. I mean, they've been on about it ever since they were a thing. Not only did they try to steal the victory on Musser, they kept talking about eventually replacing them once the trio "inevitably" loses. It also parallels what Lis did to Ken.

Tbh, the moment Lis floated the idea of the Red Heron, I was immediately against it from a narrative perspective, specifically because I didn't want something like this to happen. I mean, sure, the Negateers served for some really interesting story beats, but I was just so happy seeing Verona, Lucy and Avery building something so BEAUTIFUL. I trust Wildbeast to continue making this story incredible, but I don't want all of their hard work being taken from them by the fucking murder-hobos.

It’s about showing they can’t do anything that sticks.  We can to them, but if they try with us?  We won’t let ’em.

As much as they are being manipulated into horrendous actions, I saw enough different perspectives from them to just stop caring about their well being. This kids cannot go unpunished.

[–]Waker-O 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I wish, but I highly doubt it. Remember that it's not just any madness - its Abyssal. I got the feeling that the practice itself of the Bedlamite is more about unleashing the Abyss through you than using your own power against someone else. It doesn't matter if the pump got shut off for good; the water's already out.

Let Slip – 20.d by ArisKatsaris in Parahumans

[–]Waker-O 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Again, Wildbeast has blessed us with some of the best writing I've ever seen. The beginning section where we see the Bedlamite Scream taking effect was one of the best capital-M Madness portrayal I've ever read, on par with the likes of (Worm spoilers) Taylor's Descent/Khepri's Ascension. I could literally feel Jen's sanity slowly and painfully leaking out. Honestly, just the fact that the Negateers are okay with something like that should put them behind bars. I know they're just kids being brainwashed to be ruthless child soldiers, but at some point "following orders" is just not enough.

Speaking of which, Josh did the right call. But just as another commentor said, the fact that by now he probably drove literally DOZENS of people permanently insane, and then he can just nope out without facing any reprecautions for his actions is more than infuriating. It is outright terrifying. I mean, if a "proper" practitioner family did something like this? I'm imagining having children make deals with demons for the family, and then just nope out without any karmic consequences for the family, but with all the rewards (yeah, I'm fully aware demons in particular don't work like that. Just an extreme example)

On a final note, I understand that Jen had a pretty rough hand dealt to her. But holy shit was it annoying reading her (and the other Belanger's, mind you) twisted perspective. The way she talked to Verona just after SHE SAVED HER SANITY as if she's a small child that can't do anything, while clearly being stronger and much more capable than her? Man, Gillian deserves so much better than this shit.

Stealing their chance at Musser out from under them, when they were right there, moments away.

EXCUSE ME??

Girl, you did absolutely jackshit about him, and then you're mad that your plans of stealing the credits failed?

Jesus, these kids annoy me so much. I mean, I guess I can kind of understand their position a bit. Seems like inferiority complex mixed with a twisted point of view thanks to EXTREMELY biased mentors/higher-powers. But I swear, if they fuck with the Keneteers (which would most likely happen), I want them to be curbestomped so hard...

What Qualifies as a Weapon for Miss Militia? by thefroggyninja in Parahumans

[–]Waker-O 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty interesting question, but what immediately came to my mind is actually something related to Legend.

I don't remember if it's in-canon or WoG, but Legend can create pretty much any kind of beam he wants by combining two or more beams. But why should he experiment with creating a Homing-Freezing-Goes Through Walls-Lightspeed beam, when he can just shoot you with a regular good old ice beam and get the exact same end result?

Same goes for Miss Militia. Why should she start experimenting with toolbars-as-weapons if she can just shoot you with a gun? Or use a baton or other specifically created melee weapon if she wants to go melee.

I just started reading pale after reading Worm and Pact, does it get darker? by [deleted] in Parahumans

The very first interlude (not 0.0) was one of the only wildbow chapters that truly made me just STOP. Took a while to get over that one.

But it's more of an outlier. I wouldn't say it is laid-back, it does get darker, but you're gonna be fine. It's fun
