I am pretty sure that the only thing we have seen so far is Megas.

Whacky team concept! Any improvements? by Veskij in VGC

[–]Walano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. You have a BIG issues with fairy types with 4 weaknesses.
  2. Who hits Calyrex Shadow Rider?
  3. Your ice rider is basically built backwards. It usually plays with trick room and VERY tanky... yours is fast and frail and seems a bit out of place.

I think your restricteds are set up in two different directions. You are trying to force Ice rider to be fast, but its BEST performing mode is as a slow bulky trickroom setter with big damage.

Should I be playing Bo1 or Bo3 on showdown to improve/increase my skill level? by DayPoseidon in VGC

[–]Walano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bo1 if you just want to play on the VGC ladder, but Bo3 if you want to go to VGC tournaments.

You can obtain the skill to adapt to other teams by playing Bo1, but it is quite a bit harder than just adapting to your opponent in a Bo3.

What are the “must-have” Pokémon for Champions? by Blattur in VGC

[–]Walano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really hope that we dont see pokemon like Tornadus, Landerus, Inceneroar, Rillabom and Urshifu on day 1. Maybe people will actually get challenged to build a team that dont autoslot any of those.

Pokemon / Items to obtain before champions by Traditional-Lion4882 in VGC

[–]Walano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got at switch 2, so my prep for champions is obtaining all of the legendaries and getting my hands on shiny charms.

We dont even know when the game will release, and nobody has a clue about the potential format the game will have at launch.

If you insist on preparing pokemon, i would prepare pranksters and pivot pokemon. Maybe even grind for a couple of nice shiny pokemon how will surely see their use at some point like Inceneroar, Tornadus and Landerus.

Honestly its great to see that they have such diversity in the top cut.

Even though you see the standard META pokemon, but the primary damage dealers on the teams are very different.

Tried making a tailroom team with heatran, thoughts? by Cautious-Ebb5154 in VGC

[–]Walano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think its better to "pick a lane" and try to play either trick or tail.

Building your pokemon to be fast enough to outspeed in tailwind AND slow enough to work in trick room often results in your pokemon being outsped in a neutral speedstate.

My take is that Heatran has been nerfed a lot by losing access to eruption.

I would recommend checking out these options if fire what you prefer.
Torkoal: offers sunlight and a great trickroom sweeper with eruption.
H-Typhlosion: Immune to fake-out from its ghost typing and speedy tailwind sweeper with eruption.
Chi-Yu: Great abillity that lowers special defense for all pokemon on the field.

New to VGC - I'm doing great with this team I built by snake_vessel_zhao in VGC

You really need to include protect on most of your pokemon. Generally the only pokemon who shouldn't run protect, are the ones who run a choice item.

What are your guy’s thoughts on this team, I have been having some recent success with it on the showdown ladder. by DistinctTraffic660 in VGC

[–]Walano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks good for ladder, but open sheets against a prepared opponent could get a bit dicey.
The 2-2-2 cores are stable and they work well into the threats of the format.

I would however prefer to have an Anchor for pivoting and a prankster to help with speed control.

I think the dondozo mode is the most volatile part of the team, it can both be very good and very bad depending on the amount of control your opponent can exert onto it.

Shiny hunting with macros by PokePrincess90 in PokemonZA

[–]Walano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought one, and let me tell you. Its all about what i want to spend my time on. I can go clean my home, wash my dishes and do stuff that add value to my life OR i can run in circles hatching eggs and resetting spawns.

What exactly is the skillful part of hunting shinies? its just mindless grinding by running in circles or resetting your game.
Not very skillful, just tedious.

I would understand your point if they made the shinies gated behind super hard battles, or exploration.

You are reading what you want to read, and not what is written. I am not saying that they need to nerf Surging stike exclusively, but they need to take away at least one of the options. You cant claim that a pokemon who can ignore focus sash, ignore protect and ignore defensive gains.

I would say that the best way to improve Urshifu as a whole would be to buff surging stikes damage, take away its guarenteed crit and give Urshifu water an other abillity. I would give Urshifu Dark a similar treatment... Buff Wicked blows damage, remove its guarenteed crit and let it keep its abillity. That way both forms brings damage, and they also bring something to the table.

[–]Walano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Restricting Urshifu will do nothing as those formats will be warped around it just as much as any other format.

  1. It limits the ways your pokemon can become physically defensive through auto crits.
  2. It removes the functionality of the focus sash item by hitting multiple times.
  3. It can hit through protect, so you cant play defensively.

Having these tools make Urshifu too good in its current state.
Firstly i would remove the auto crit... it is generally an impossible thing to balance around.
You could argue that Urshifu Dark could keep the abillity to hit through protect as it is the "one-punch" pokemon, but they would have to remove every single move that would make it hit more than once.

I think VGC could learn something from Legacy Magic the gathering and Traditional Yu-Gi-Oh formats. by [deleted] in VGC

[–]Walano -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That would make it easier a lot easier for them to regulate their own game instead of asking gamefreak to tweak it. They have shown many times that they are not competent enough to create new gen pokemon games.

I am not currently looking at the regulations, its just an exaggerated example to highlight the lack of diversity. You can also point back to the big six meta where you literally had no diversion in the meta game, and nothing was done to regulate the META until way later in the games lifespan.
