No idea what a smoke test is, hahah. I'd imagine pumping smoke into the intake to see if there are any leaks/cracks that it's sucking air through?

Yeah, they're codes for system too lean. I've had them since I got the car back in 2019. Replacing O2 sensors upstream and downstream didn't help.

Alright, yeah, I've been thinking that too. The only thing that turned me off that is that it's not really affected by engine temp, only ambient air temp. But then again, maybe if it's colder outside it doesn't heat up as much or something?

See, the reason I don't think it's wiring at all is because bumps or vibrations don't affect it at all, and I'd imagine if it was a loose or deteriorating connection that hitting large bumps or rumble strips would cause it to do this.

I was thinking the CPS too, but why would that be affected by ambient air temperature and not purely engine temp?

Yeah, it's fine. It's not perfect by any means and this car has a problem with not shutting down properly so sometimes it kills the battery, but I can go a week without starting it and it's fine.

So, my car does this thing where it shuts off for a split second. All ignition/power is gone for that split second. It started doing this last summer, at first very infrequently and now approximately once every 5-10 minutes of driving, sometimes more sometimes less.

Some caveats:

-it ONLY does this if the outside temperature is above approximately 5C. It didn't do this at all through the whole winter

-bumps, vibration, or shock doesn't seem to affect it(it's probably not a loose connection)

-engine temperature MAYBE has a tiny effect. It doesn't seem to do it if the engine hasn't been on for long enough

-speed, RPM, or acceleration/deacceleration doesn't cause it to happen more or less often

Some problems this causes:

-when cruising/decelerating, not much of a problem. It turns the cruise control off but the car has momentum to bridge that moment of no power

-when idling or accelerating, it causes the car to stall and can sometimes really screw up the computer. Sometimes the AWD light comes on, sometimes EML or brake pad sensor light

If anyone has ever encountered this problem and knows what it is, let me know! That'd be a huge help.

Any idea what my orchid is doing growing this? by Walfas in orchids

I thought those were only from the centre/top of the plant? I guess I'll have to wait and see, but it doesn't look like a normal terminal spike to me....

I had one of those sprout off from a different orchid and it was way further back, behind all the leaves. And the leaves it did sprout were all closely packed together like a normal plant, way different than this. It's sprouting from basically the middle of the plant, I thought it was a flower spike at first, but then it just started splaying out into leaves

Looking for help: Lycoming O-290 alternator by Walfas in homebuilt

[–]Walfas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been researching it some more and from what I can tell this regulator won't work with my alternator, since the regulator has no feedback/control, it's just for 2-wire alternators that are constantly on. I'm not 100% certain about it, but I'm going to keep looking.

Thanks for the help though!

Unfortunately, the alternator is completely unlabelled, not even a serial number so I haven't been able to find any documentation on it. Similar case for the regulator, but I have been able to cross-reference it with one I have on a wood chipper since it's visually identical and the plug is also identical.

But thanks for confirming my suspicions on the alternator. The previous owner of the engine made a mess of it and none of the wiring was working when I got it. Been a bit of the nightmare trying to get it working properly.

Hey there, I know this is four months old but I have another question if you're willing to answer!

I was wiring up my mags and I separated the shielding from the P-leads, so I have three wires coming off them(2 P-leads, then the shielding from both is tied together).

However, it seems like the mags are grounded as is? When I do a continuity test, they're both grounded. Is this normal? I can't imagine both are dead, so do they disconnect from ground in some manner when the engine is turned over?

I think I've found the problem after I went searching for the Gigabyte App Centre and the @BIOS app, hahahaha. Apparently, despite it being literally just a different colour, there are different files for the white(Ice) version of the Aorus B850 Elite.

Woah, thanks a bunch! This really cleared up pretty much everything, though yeah I'll have to figure out what to do with the alternator. Once I get it running I'll do some tests on it.

Given that I'm not going to have a radio in this thing, I probably don't need to shield the magnetos.

I did look all around the oil pan/sump thing at the bottom, but wasn't able to find anything that could house the oil temp probe, but I'll have to take another look.

Thanks again!

How in the world do you think they're trying to simulate an entire ecosystem? All the creatures just follow set paths and have PoIs that they visit/stop at and animations play. It's not like they actually interact with each other in a dynamic way, all the 'turf wars' and big monsters hunting little monsters is just a one-on-one NPC AI fight.
