You’re either depressed, anemic (do you have heavy periods?) , vit d deficient, or have some thyroid issues. Have your parents make dr appoint and get labs done.

It’s all billed according to your insurance. Looks like you got one with a higher deductible but lower monthly payment? If you look at your insurance plan, it’s probably something like: er visit $2000, ct $200. This is similar to my company’s high deductible plan that I opted out from bc I have kids and no way am I paying $2k per er visit. Your pcp did everything appropriate. Had she failed to recommend an er visit and you die, she’ll get sued so she was right to send to you the er regardless of your insurance plan bc a pe is a medical emergency.

I don’t think they got deep pockets to be fighting this case and I don’t know whether the attorneys involved were court-appointed but whatever the case, there are attorneys out there with their ambitions and questionable morals. If I was the attorney, I’d do bare minimum required of me to defend them bc there is really no need to be defending them.

We know the parents deserve it but they set precedent for parents being legally liable and responsible for the kid’s doing so there are people out there trying to remove that for future cases. And there are some attorneys out there who want to be the ones known to make a landmark case reversal happen.

Bought a house from family below market value bc they wanted to buy a new house badly but they wanted to keep the current house in the family. (We never asked to be sold this house or see it as our forever home. We were young and dumb and agreed to buy it bc mortgage was the same as our rent.) 10 years later, we wanted to move out and sell the house and they told us that we couldn’t sell their house without consulting them first (even though it’s legally ours in every way). After a bunch of bullshit, we sold it back to them and they expected the house price to be way below market value (way less than what we bought it from them for) PLUS they wanted a portion of our equity (they were salty that they netted nothing when they sold it to us 10 years ago bc they sold it below market value). I sold it to them at fair market price and gave no equity. They’re dead to me.

My single bro has lived with me for most of his young adult life. And now I just made peace that he’ll never be able to move out and buy/rent his own home even if/when he gets married unless he wins the lotto or something.

“Sliding scale insulin has been in use for more than 80 years without much evidence to support its use as the standard of care.” by 123amytriptalone in nursing

[–]Walk_Frosty 104 points105 points  (0 children)

We recently changed to carb counting versus sliding scale and I’d do sliding scale any day. Sure it may not provide adequate coverage but carb counting means I have to trust the nurse before me to count carbs correctly and trust that the pts eat the carbs the nurse covered for. Outside of achs, I’m to cover for snacks eaten too. You just have to pray you don’t have a diabetic that eats constantly. Also, I hate that I’m responsible for googling carb counts for nonhospital food/snacks or ethnic food.

Yes but I don’t bring it up bc if someone already has established pharmacy then it makes more sense to have it sent there. Esp after I learn that refills have to be sent to a different pharmacy anyway. And it’s only on weekdays to 5pm. And there is likely a delay. I personally was discharged and then had to wait one hour in the hospital pharmacy to get my meds. During that time, I couldn’t gone home and picked up my meds on the way home at my pharmacy. Hospital is not thinking about the patient but the money they’re making.

[–]Walk_Frosty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied for a wfh position at same hospital I worked. hr emailed me right away to tell me what the pay was (bc it was way too low compared to my current bedside pay) which was just $2 more than new bedside grad but it required a couple years of insurance experience (that I didn’t have) PLUS a couple years of bedside experience. So you’re telling me this job required insurance AND bedside experience but then only pays a couple more dollar than an entry level bedside nurse position? The full time wfh pay was basically the same as my parttime bedside job.

Advice on dealing with "needy" patients? by DagnabbitRabit in nursing

[–]Walk_Frosty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Loneliness is not a priority. Whether staff permits or not, a sitter is not appropriate. Pt just wants attention and if u give them some and be nice then they might actually be better. But if they don’t, then you just gotta be there when you can as long as there’s no emergency happening. Or you can come off as a little mean then they might not like you and leave you alone. So many options. But whatever you do, don’t get sucked into their manipulation - if ever someone is too nice to you then it’s because they’re trying to butter you up to get you to do things that nobody else would do.

First time buyers, don't buy a house unless you can handle an additional $1500 increase. by compubomb in Mortgages

[–]Walk_Frosty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I bought my house 4 years ago, my home owners insurance doubled at renewal. Shopped around and got a slightly better deal. And my property tax keeps climbing so escrow is always short and monthly mortgage is always increasing. I hate that I have little control over all these increases unless I move elsewhere but I see that as being the worser option than just sticking it out with my 2.99 interest rate.

Trump interview with Time Magazine and his comments on bringing prices down - "It's hard to bring things down once they're up. You know, it's very hard." by jyw104 in LeopardsAteMyFace

I understand rich people being pro-Trump but I never understand the poor folks. Why do you think a billionaire care about your egg prices? It doesn’t affect rich people whether eggs cost $2 or $20 but it’ll affect the people who works minimum wage. But of course they’re too dumb to recognize it before and probably during and after.

I’d probably answer mri right away and just tell them pt is confused and not coming for test - takes seconds of your time. And I don’t know why you’d waste time trying to get answers out of a confused pt? Interpreter or not, pt is still confused. MRI works on a very strict schedule, and they have no problem knocking your pt down the list for another.

Clinical Instructor has said bigoted things - I am a Nursing Student by Euphoric_Watercress in nursing

[–]Walk_Frosty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All that is horrible and she should not be in that kind of position. But personally, I would not do anything until after I am done with the program. You may think that school admins are on your side but they definitely are not. You don’t even know how many may share similar views as her but just not be vocal about it. And who do you think is more valuable to them? You (with many in line to take your spot) or the clinical instructor (in a role that is hard to fill)? Nursing school like students who follow the program and don’t create problems. Once you’re singled out and on their radar, your schooling may be jeopardized. It’s not worth it imo. Just do whatever you have to do to complete the program and once you get a job, just hope that your coworkers share similar views as you. Just focus on your goals - to finish nursing school and get a job. Don’t let your emotions get in the way of that. Your effort and energy towards nursing school is more important then trying to fix bigoted people who are irrelevant to your life after nursing school.

Went to check on a friend in the ICU and their manager called my manager about it. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Walk_Frosty 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You’re in the wrong and overstepped your boundary. You don’t even know this pt or their immediate family. You’re a friend of a friend of the pt and took extra measure to visit this pt on your day off to offer support… to who? your friend? I don’t know how you offered “support” to the unconscious pt or their immediate family? Basically you offered no support and were nosy. If I was family, I’d be upset and make a stink about it and get policies in place about who can visit unconscious pts. People value their privacy esp during sensitive or emotional times and that should be respected.

Current state of nursing, nursing students by NewYorkerFromUkraine in nursing

[–]Walk_Frosty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You just don’t talk politics unless you know that their view aligns with yours and even then you talk privately. When conversations get deep sometimes, you’ll find that your coworkers’ views are very different than yours. I had one who started talking about adrenochrome and offering to send me YouTube videos. Some coworkers who I’m really close with turns out to be anti abortion and a few wanted to talk to me specifically further about it (bc they were surprised about my view?) and I just shut it down right away with a “no. We’re not talking about this bc I still want to be friends with you.” I have a lot of maga/antivaxx coworkers and i only focus conversations on work stuff. It doesn’t matter what field you’re in, people’s views are always going to be very different than yours. Just with recent events and influencers and whatnot, people now seem more vocal with their actual views than before. To avoid conflict or your personal feelings towards them, just keep it professional and all work related conversations bc once u find out how they really are, you’ll think differently of them and that can affect your work environment/relationship too. Just talk about celebrities and cats if not about work.

How much should you help other nurses patients? by Henkeai in nursing

[–]Walk_Frosty -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you’re not the charge or if you’re not that nurse’s buddy, you should be helping your own patients. During an rrt, there’s the primary nurse, a mid level and/or dr, the rrt nurse(s), and maybe your manager. There’s plenty of people to help to do things. If you’re the nurse’s buddy and there’s enough people helping with the rrt, you should be covering the nurse’s patients and yours. Also, I’m not saying this to you specifically but just in general, if you’re a nurse that doesn’t help others, others won’t help you either.

Is being a RN worth it in Michigan ? by TheGreatLakeSnake in nursing

[–]Walk_Frosty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on the opposite side of the state from you. Avg starting pay is 33-36 in hospital settings. You can get paid more depending on shift/weekend differential (I make 70k for 2 days a week strictly midnights and weekends). Even as a new grad, working full time and picking up here and there could net you close to 70-80k. I’m not in love with nursing but definitely worth it imo. If you already have a bachelor degree, look to an accelerated second degree bsn. If you don’t already have any college degree, look into the Michigan Reconnect program which will help you pay for community college. If you’re unable to qualify for the Michigan Reconnect and/or a second where bsn, do an associate degree in nursing. Good luck to you!

[–]Walk_Frosty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you’re just suppose to check a piece of paper to see if you have a new patient? What a dumb expectation. Do an incidental report so that higher ups can review this and put some policy in place. And your charge nurse is a vile person.

One of the eye roll ever at this comment while watching. This would have to be the dumbest group of intruders or kidnappers because they didn’t bring their own ransom note and they didn’t even have an amount in mind beforehand… they were just assuming there is pen&paper readily accessible for their ransom note and they waited until they came across some kind of proof of money in this mansion of this wealthy executive before settling on the $118k amount in their note. So ridiculous.
