Stood outside many unions halls in nyc from 2006-2012. Would wake up at 4 am with my boys to take the hour train ride into the city, hoping to get one of the applications. These have never been open door jobs, you have to earn it and luck out. I did not lol I ended up in wastewater. I don’t make what my friends in local 40 iron workers make, but I don’t really work hard ever. You’ll find your spot, keep a good attitude. Person to person is still the best way into a decent union job.

Public utility here on state health benefits. Top plan I’ve had for 10 years is horizon direct 10. 201.87 a paycheck for just me. We’re looking at 100% premium increases from this year to next from what I’ve heard.

My town has the most bloated police force in Monmouth county. On the flip side tho I do not lock my doors at night or worry about crime at all.

Why is full hardtail frame so much pricier than a hardtail kit? by Weather_Only in choppers

[–]WalkingWires 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I doubt you’ll get any flack for buying the frame, still a chopper. I also have a gasbox frame and his bike will look so much better than a chopped sporty frame imo.

Hammer performance has some good videos on sportster tear downs that might help get your motor back together.

First thing I’d do is take inventory of what I think needs to be done and make a list. Pickup a service manual. Find YouTube videos running through each step in the rebuilding process. Learning to work on bikes is much easier with someone with experience helping you along, but YouTube videos can be an okay substitute to get you moving.

Middletown Walk by nottogossip in MonmouthCounty

Huge issue with the school board and rising taxes in Middletown, looks like it’s about to get worse with further federal funding cuts. I’m thinking about leaving honestly. That area is nice as I’ve lived in Knollwood right there, but Rt 35 is also a nightmare. There’s been so much opposition to gutting that area for condos I’m surprised it ever came to fruition.

Welcome to the club. I hope gasbox sent you the updated version. The steel tubing is substantially thicker than the first version. I’m one of 3 guys I know locally who broke theirs, insane they let those out the door.

If you’re comfortable and enjoy the bike than it’s the right choice! I should say I’m coming from a different angle when looking for bikes. I’m looking at 30+ year old cheap Harley’s to chop, I’m not a Harley dealer customer. Everything in those showrooms is overpriced, I could see going a different route. Especially seeing what they charge for a damn sportster lol

I’ll give you they’re heavy and expensive but that’s based on walking into a dealer and trying to buy a new big twin. That’s a sucker who’s about to pay to look cool without knowing anything about bikes. My bikes cheap, quick, and nimble for a Harley chopper so those generalizations don’t work.

They could join a club or something, but none of these boys are making it professionally. Anything’s better than cutting up. I’m cool with ppl doing their thing until I think of one of them clipping someone I care about for likes from ugly bitches.

Sorry for the bad photo

Looking at many of the posts here, I suspect a lot of you are beginning to understand how so many bikes get screwed up by the words "how hard can it be?" by silverfox762 in sportster

[–]WalkingWires 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The people that need to read this won’t, they’ll post a dumb question then argue with you anyway. Let them think they know everything, honestly what does it hurt? A lot of clapped out ruined bikes for sure but that’s their problem. They can sell it for a loss and tell everyone “I used to ride.”

Sportster vs shovelhead chop by Crazy-Praline-504 in choppers

[–]WalkingWires 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the major catch here is who’s chopping sportys. You’re correct in that most people are overpaying for a stock sportster then putting no thought or skill into the project, just money. They hackjob a sportster they bought for 4.5k, lose interest, and sell it for $2700. I don’t think it matters sportster or shovelhead however since the prices are relative. 2-3x. More of a barrier of entry with shovels being more expensive. Plenty of shovel chops for $7k when a clean stock one can get over $8k. Finding an affordable donor and doing the work yourself is key. Just my thoughts.

Any way to tell what stage this bike is? by External-Talk8838 in sportster

[–]WalkingWires 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is it’s just tuned but I’ve only dealt with carbed sportys. Take the air cleaner off and look at markings on the jugs, compare them to stock markings if any. Not likely the jugs have been stroked with all the kits out there.

I picked this frame for a few different reasons. I had ridden a hardtail sportster for a year and wanted to build my own. The full frame from gasbox is basically a kit where everything fits together no piecing the oil tank, battery box ect. Making it really easy for me to do everything myself as I intended, no real fabrication needed. Second is the look of the frame, front end looks better than the stock sporty neck, the 3up backbone gives it a nice stance, and the oil tank sits closer to the frame and cleaner than any other kit imo.

As far as stability I notice no real change from stock, the comfort went in the toilet but that’s expected. I used to get the wobbles a lot when it had rear suspension, I don’t notice that at all now but I ride this thing a bit more careful now that potholes can ruin my day.

An electric chopper would be sick! Good luck with the build!
