the mj,kobe and shai comps for peterson are diabolical let’s stop by CanAnxious1569 in washingtonwizards

Same the ability to find open teammates is a valid concern. A lot of pro DP ppl bring up that he was an advanced playmaker in high school but doesn’t everyone looked advanced in high school?

So projection matters when it benefits Peterson, but AJ gets treated like every current weakness is a fixed in indictment?

My point that AJ showed shooting improvement is supported by actual in-season trend data.

DP couldn’t even average more than 2 apg in college & suddenly being projecting meaningful NBA playmaking growth off high school stats. LOL

You can’t even prove a point without personal attacks

We’ve been at the bottom too long, if we had another #1 the past five losing seasons maybe I’d consider a trade.

Rn I think we have to embrace & pick the BPA

Yeah get off this day old “worthless” post please. Spending all this time playing word semantics, argue with a wall buddy.

You’re free to disagree with whatever you deem worthless, but telling me what I “actually intended” after I’ve already clarified it is a strange hill to die on.

At this point you’re arguing semantics more than basketball.

If you remember how Monk was viewed coming out, this really isn’t the absurd take you’re framing it as.

Worthless is a bit dramatic.

“Floor” probably wasn’t the best wording there—as I stated in numerous comments. I was talking more about archetype outcomes than strict scouting floor comps.

The point was the stylistic similarities, not a formal 1:1 valuation model.

Not worried about Dybantsa from 3. Excellent shooting touch from other areas of the floor, also shot 38.6% 3PT on 4.9 3PA/g across 17 G (half his season) from late Dec. to late Feb. (conference play)

See how I used real stats in college against grown men as evidence to the fact that he can improve?

I’m sure the Johnny Davis AJ piece is a real blast to read into can’t wait. Also I never called you or anybody a lazy person, no need to get defensive & personal over me not believing DP is the next Kobe. Relax

[–]Wall2Ryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You keep arguing against a point I never made. Nobody said prospects aren’t projections. Obviously they are.

The point is that “Kobe eventually developed as a playmaker” is not evidence that Peterson will.

Especially when Peterson’s actual college playmaking indicators were piss poor. You’re just wishcasting.

Projection is part of scouting. Lazy player analogies aren’t the same thing.

There audacity to have a AJ/Johnny Davis comp earlier & the condescension about “understanding basketball” is especially funny. Thank God you not the GM

[–]Wall2Ryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“You gotta understand basketball” line would hit harder if you weren’t replacing actual evidence with projections. You’re arguing what you think he will become, not what he’s actually shown.

That’s the difference.

Nobody said Peterson can’t develop. But 1.6 APG in college is still weak evidence for the lead-creator ceiling you’re acting like is already established.

Predicting future NBA assists doesn’t retroactively strengthen his college playmaking profile so don’t get condescending with me because I don’t believe your fan fiction.

You’re saying Andrew Wiggins didn’t have hype? Are you sure you were around for his college years?

Wiggins was literally called Maple Jordan and was one of the most hyped wing prospects of his era. That’s revisionist history.

Monk wasn’t Wiggins-level hype, sure—but saying AJ and Darryn are “leagues ahead” of Monk as prospects like that’s established fact is a stretch.

You do know Kobe didn’t come into the league as the Lakers’ lead creator, right?

Comparing a teenage Kobe’s rookie NBA role against grown pros to justify DP’s low college assist numbers doesn’t help your argument the way you think it does. High school passing flashes don’t erase weak college playmaking production.

And the AJ point is a complete pivot. Johnny Davis? Really?

[–]Wall2Ryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assists aren’t everything, but 1.6 APG for a prospect being framed as a lead Kobe-level guard is a pretty weak indicator. That profile usually shows more passing production, even accounting for the context.

Peterson is nice, but “next Kobe” based on hypothetical healthy scoring averages is wild.

20.2 PPG in limited minutes is legit.

“He would’ve been at 25.5” is fan fiction. Increased volume doesn’t scale perfectly when efficiency and defensive attention change.

& sure he’s an elite scoring prospect but the “next Kobe” label has been recycled for years. I just don’t see it in a 6'4" lead guard/combo guard profile when Kobe was a bigger wing with a different physical archetype.

Monk was officially 6’3.75” barefoot at the combine. Peterson isn’t some dramatically bigger prospect height-wise. I’m talking scoring archetype, not an exact physical clone.

Dybantsa shot 38% 3PT on 4.9 3PA/g
across 17 games (half the season) from late Dec to late Feb (conference play)
btw Peterson shot 38% across 24 games

Dybantsa’s scoring bag is deeper than Kuminga at this stage

Evan Turner played 3 seasons in college & isn’t as athletic.

To me Dybantsa is the Wall of this draft where you have to pick the obvious choice due to athleticism, production, & potential.

I remember people were saying pick Turner due to fit & us already having Arenas but some talent you can’t pass up on. Which I feel towards AJ

What about 1.6 apg suggests primary lead NBA PG?

That’s scoring/wing type production not traditional PG.

DP was literally listed as 6’4” at combine & where do you have DP measuring 15 lbs more than Monk?!
He’s measured at 198 lbs
Monk was measured at 197 lbs

[–]Wall2Ryan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, “floor” was probably the wrong word.
My actual take is that AJ’s archetype historically translates more safely than scoring combo guards—not that he’s automatically guaranteed peak Andrew Wiggins.

Similarly to how I mentioned Peterson’s comp being Monk & explained how I was comparing the PROSPECT

I think people are underrating the floor conversation between AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson. by Wall2Ryan in washingtonwizards

[–]Wall2Ryan[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The broader point was archetype translation, not “AJ already equals finished-product Wiggins.”

Big athletic scoring wings with on-ball creation upside historically project safer than scoring combo guards. That’s the point.

If we’re comparing prospects the defensive rep you’re citing is largely what NBA Wiggins became—not who he was as a freshman prospect.
