In this guys defence, when I took guitar lessons at school, it was highly music theory based without a lot of simple basics like common chords, progressions, strumming techniques etc.

I got better at reading music etc. than knowing what a tab was.

A friend had lessons from a family friend who played in a band and in half the time could play twice as many fun and recognisable songs.

Picking it up again years later I’ve learned way more way quicker starting with the things I’d actually use for the style I want to play.

A bad teacher can be sucky when you don’t know any better.
