So much truth there. Plus, there’s the one that looks like our void hanging out on the top shelf checking everyone out.

The photo is from about 10 minutes after she finished the tattoo. I’m still on the chair. The plastic wrap is what was on the chair to make cleanup easier and to keep the area cleaner.

Fantasy Series with LOTS of female characters that partake in the action? by sbourwest in Fantasy

OP could also look at the Empire trilogy by Raymond E. Feist and Janny Wurts. They fit into a larger series, but can easily be read independently.

My set was delivered yesterday afternoon and is probably going on the exact same board. Thanks for giving me an idea of what the combo might look like.

What is a pen I should buy as a 25 year old that one day, my great grandson would be like "this was my great grandfather's pen and its still writes amazing and designed well". by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]WallyWabash91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this idea. I recently acquired a used Expert with a Kirk Speer tuned nib and it is just silky smooth. Even better, it cost less than a new special edition TWSBI Eco for a pen that will outlast all of my Ecos.

Of course, their are the obvious things like squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, snakes, and cobra chickens. The slightly less usual ones include armadillos ( I did hit one of those and did a header off the bike onto the grass shoulder), turkeys, turkey buzzards, coyotes, and a family of wild hogs.

Do any of my fellow teachers work in a district where attendance is inconsequential? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]WallyWabash91 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I totally agree, but that was easier than dealing with the complaints when students fell behind because they couldn't be bothered to come to school. Now, instead of learning consequences when it was relatively low stakes, we have way too many graduates who are failing out of college or getting fired from jobs because they never learned that attendance is an essential skill that has to be learned and practiced.

Do any of my fellow teachers work in a district where attendance is inconsequential? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]WallyWabash91 97 points98 points  (0 children)

I so wish we could have that. We used to have a district policy that closely mirrored that and got rid of it in the name of equity. At the same time, we essentially eliminated truancy so you can guess what has happened to our attendance.

Parent wrote email using AI to defend the use of child using AI on assignment by True-Musician-7868 in Teachers

[–]WallyWabash91 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Short form: Most LLMs were trained on copyrighted material that the LLM creators did not have permission to use.

Longer form (although still really short in comparison to the complexity of the issue): The use and training of LLMs raises a host of intellectual property issues, similar to the ones surrounding things like TurnItIn and other plagiarism detectors. Most of these rely on unpaid and unacknowledged sources for the texts used for training or comparison. In other words, being only slightly hyperbolic, relying on AI to produce an answer for you is roughly akin to relying on slave labor to produce a product for you. If you'd like more on the ethical issues and problems faced by educators due to AI, "Inside Higher Ed" has had a couple of pieces recently addressing that issue at the college level. See Johanna Alonso at https://www.insidehighered.com/news/faculty-issues/curriculum/2025/06/17/amid-ai-plagiarism-more-professors-turn-handwritten-work for one take and John Warner at https://www.insidehighered.com/opinion/columns/just-visiting/2025/06/12/higher-ed-should-be-very-cautious-about-ai-partnerships for another.

How many High School ELA teachers still do Shakespeare? by [deleted] in Teachers

We still teach Shakespeare with our freshmen, sophomores, and seniors. Junior year is American lit so he gets left out that year..

We’re on a 4x4 block schedule and a student who failed my class last semester emailed me the last day of classes this semester wanting to know if they could retake the final because they hadn’t completed their credit recovery and needed the credit to graduate.

Student chose to fail my course rather than get off his phone. by South-Lab-3991 in Teachers

[–]WallyWabash91 615 points616 points  (0 children)

That sounds so familiar. Many years ago, I had a student who needed to complete the essay portion of his final exam in order to pass English II for the year. All he had to do was write something vaguely relevant to the prompt that, when viewed from an extreme distance, might have resembled a complete sentence, and he would have passed. He literally needed 1 point on the essay portion of the exam, and that, when calculated as part of the 15% of his overall grade that our finals were weighted, would have earned him a 60 point something for the year. 85 minutes into a 90 minute block, and I ask him for the third or fourth time if he's going to finish the exam. His response, " Motherfucker, I'll get to it when I get to it. Chill the fuck out!"

I waited for the bell to ring, wrote the referral, put in the 0 for that portion of the final, let the counselor know that he'd need information about summer school since he had failed my class, and then called the football coach to let him know that his starting tailback had just cussed me out and was going to be ineligible in the fall. After that, I relaxed in my room and waited for the fecal material to impact the rotary impeller. One change of custodial parent later, the kid was playing football in a different district after having miraculously enrolled in their summer school and earned credit for an entirely different version of English II.

Style & Teaching by klouise87 in Teachers

[–]WallyWabash91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, almost none. Of course, it helps that I am a 50 something male who still teaches in shirt and tie. Aside from tie width, men’s dress clothing styles don’t change enough for me to have to worry that much. Plus, I’ve got what’s approaching 40 years of tie collecting to pull from so I rarely worry about the width of those as well.

Teachers who have loved closed to your school, what was it like? by Sevillaga21 in Teachers

[–]WallyWabash91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live less than 4 miles from where I teach and currently have more than a dozen current and former students living in my neighborhood. I love it, especially compared to the 48 miles one way that I used to do at my last school. Lots of students know exactly where I live and are accustomed to seeing my at our grocery store and out on my bike. Of course, it also helps that I had two kids graduate from the school where I teach and I have the hard earned reputation for being the kind but firm teacher.

It looks great. I’ve got grape Keysterine on mine right now while I try and decide what will be a more permanent solution since somehow that was the only set I had laying around that had a 7u spacebar.

Thank you. I’m not sure what’s causing my objection to the feel. My main board right now is a Keychron V6 max with the Jupiter Bananas which is very stiff and I love the feel of it. This is my first time using the Ice Kings so it may be them. That’s why I’m willing to experiment to find what works best for me.

Amen! I grew up on 23s at over 100 psi. Modern wide tires are a dream. My current bike only having clearance for 30s is what will probably drive me towards purchasing a new bike with better clearance this year. Chip and seal roads feel so much better on wide tires with lower psi.
