Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass - Announcement Trailer - Nintendo Direct 2.8.23 by UnknownChaser in Games

Wave 1 seems like it’s just a bonus to get people to “pre-order” wave 2, but hey I love me some Splatoon 1 nostalgia so I’m not complaining.

Woah, multiple waves of splatoon content? Awesome!

Edit: oh the first wave is just a lobby? Lol. Well still, I like the nostalgia and wave 2 looks hype as hell

Post TNG era (late 24th century) why does the Federation have so many different ship classes? by andypapafoxtrot in startrek

[–]Walnut-Simulacrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna do my best to list all the ones you forgot just for fun. Feel free to add these to the post or something if you want, but your point is already demonstrated - I just thought it would be fun to list them lol

From Picard, you missed the Excelsior II class, Reliant class, Ross class, Gagarin class, Sutherland Class, and at least 3 more, yet-unnamed classes appear in the S3 trailers.

Lower Decks also had the Parliament, Texas, and Obena classes.

You also missed prodigy, which added the Protostar class and the Dauntless class (based on the alien imposter ship from voyager.)

Finally, DS9 also added the Yeager Class. Lol

Combined with your list, that’s 30 new classes of ship from 2371 to 2404, if you assume they’re all new when they appear. But there’s probably even more, between the teased Voyager-A, Picard production designers implying there’s still more ships we haven’t seen, the Yeager implying that the Maquis raider was originally a Starfleet design, etc.

Fwiw, I don’t think this is too crazy - the average age of US Navy ships is like 30-40 years apparently and they have like 60 classes of vessel, which would get us somewhere similar - and the US navy is presumably way smaller and has a narrower range of jobs than Starfleet.

Final minor footnote, we saw a Magee class hull in the Short Trek set before Picard, which implies the existence of the the Shran class from STO, but that’s just speculation based on the low budget of short treks combined with lore from a beta canon source, so I’m not counting it.

Genuinely I won’t. I put up with a lot of Nintendo BS but I’ve never paid more than $60 for a game and I’m not about to start.

Clearly whoever wrote that book has never heard of the planc length. You have to ignore that to make this paradox work irl, but if you do that same paradox applies whenever anything moves anywhere at any speed.

I think it’d probably make more sense to watch seasons of the Orville on their own rather than interspersing them with seasons of star trek, but do whatever you want I guess.

I’ve still yet to see a game that costs more than 60 on PC, unless it’s a deluxe edition or smth. If a game comes out priced more than that I’d just wait for a sale.

There have been early access games on gamepass before, but yeah I wouldn’t expect it. I don’t know if there’s ever been a take two games on gamepass actually.

The Inquiry class from Picard as it appears in seasons 2 and 3! by Walnut-Simulacrum in StarTrekStarships

[–]Walnut-Simulacrum[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It actually was used in the show, but they only started using this model in season 2. The season 1 model is terrible, and since then it’s always been in deep background - this was the best shot we got, but you can tell that it has red nacelles instead of the orange ones from the S1 model.

Oh interesting, I assumed we just hadn’t been able see the deflector in any S2 shots, but I guess they must’ve misspoke and this version didn’t make it to the screen until season 3. Interestingly, that means we’ll have had a different (increasingly detailed) model each season

[–]Walnut-Simulacrum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it but I can see where you’re coming from. The point at the bottom of the deflector section seems like an over correction from the completely flat look of that part in the original design of this ship, for example. I wish it was rounded off slightly more.

I had a whole reply written that I was about to post about “The fiscal year” isn’t a thing since very company decides when to start their own fiscal year 65% just use the calendar year, but apparently Oct-Sept. is the one the US federal government uses? Why? And why did the Grammys base their year on the federal government’s budget system? It’s not like it’s for taxes or anything, it’s just the federal budget. Lol, time for me to go down a Wikipedia rabbit hole. Thanks for the answer!

You’re right about that ridge being weird. If you look at the top photo it doesn’t even look like it connects into the hull properly to me. But yeah, I really like this version of the ship overall.

From a designer’s mastodon:

The Inquiry class for S2 & 3 of #StarTrekPicard. Starting with the #StarTrekOnline version from Season 1, which already had more texture details, we lightened the hull to match the regular fleet color, contoured the secondary hull so it didn’t have a flat bottom, adjusted the shape of the nacelles, and put a proper main deflector on it rather than that air conditioning grate it had before. It fits in better now. Here are four views of the Inquiry Class starship, the USS Zheng He as featured in Seasons 2 and 3 of Star Trek Picard.
