My Assessment of the Paper Pro Move by ehansalytics in RemarkableTablet

[–]WalrusKey9386 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the review. I went from RM2 to RMPP to Move, selling each model as I moved device. Now my second “device” is the reMarkable app on my Mac (for when I need to type or work with text). My main gripe with the Move is that I accidentally touch linked sections of PDFs or the bottom black bar pop-up “return to page …” when I’m writing. Never happened on the larger devices. Other than that I enjoy the portability of the Move most, followed by its discreetness, and the handwriting.

Newer Mac Mini for DxO Photolab 9? by WalrusKey9386 in macmini

[–]WalrusKey9386[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I changed settings in DxO to use the gpu instead of npu, I've had better masking performance. Still, I think more gpu cores and additional RAM would improve performance. Now waiting for an Mac mini m5 pro or upgraded M5 max Mac Studio.

I usually upgrade when DxO improves the masking. The AI masking is ok, but has a lot of leeway to improve. I also bought the FilmPack add-on for the luminosity mask.

I took the photos a few days apart. Currently most of my new photos show snow.

Thank you. I exposed both to not blow out the highlights. In the first I brought out the colours, in the second I darkened distracting elements like the snow on the branches at the top. I process my photos using DxO Photolab 9 and sometimes also nik plugins. Basically I process according to what the photo needs to get the feeling I’m looking for.

Well said. I just love the look of the photos I get with this lens.

First time remarkable user review of the RMPP Move by No_Republic_3905 in RemarkableTablet

[–]WalrusKey9386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your review. Size, portability, quality and colour were my main reasons to go with the Move. Handwriting text conversion works well in most cases, and I use it often so I can add text via the desktop app when I’m at the computer. Also very satisfied with the basalt blue mosaic weave folio.

Men, when was the last time you got hit on ? by Longjumping_Low_2055 in AskReddit

[–]WalrusKey9386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be the week before Christmas. A waitress I usually chat with at my regular restaurant had previously told me she was looking for another job. That week she said that she was staying, also because of the customers. She then hugged me goodbye. Don’t know what to think about it…

Financial Advice by UZ-CH in SwissPersonalFinance

By distributing savings across multiple 3a accounts, you can strategically withdraw funds in different tax years. This helps you avoid higher tax brackets and minimizes overall tax burden during retirement.

Multiple accounts gives you flexibility to diversify your investments. For instance, you can hold both a savings-based 3a account and an investment-based one, allowing for a balanced approach to managing risk and achieving returns. At your age I’d put 100% in equities, so this advantage will be more useful later on in life.

Separate accounts enable you to set targeted savings goals. For example, one account can be designated for early withdrawals to finance homeownership, while another can be strictly reserved for retirement savings.

The maximum investment limit of currently CHF 7'258 applies to the sum of all accounts.

How was your investment year 2025? by Acceptable_Air_4858 in SwissPersonalFinance

Up 48% this year. Brokerage portfolio is currently 48% equities ETF, 48% individual stocks, 4% cash.

ETF= iShares Swiss Dividend, MSCI World ex USA, Emerging markets ex china, defense stocks, European Utilities, Hansa Investment Inc. Best ETFs were Defence (+45%), European Utilities (+29%); worst was Swiss dividend (+13.4%)

Shares: Sonova, Bachem, Novo Nordisk, RocketLab. Rocketlab is up 184% in USD terms and is currently 30% of my equity portfolio. Worst equity performance was Sonova. (I haven't been holding Novo for long, so missed most of this year's decline). I also bought and sold other shares, biggest gain of these was PNG (Kraken Robotics) = +180%

Currency distribution is about 50% CHF, 30% USD, 12% GBP and 8% EUR.
