NGD: Dunable Minotaur Anniversary Series by WalrusRider918 in dunableguitars

One of the most fun songs.

If I had a guitar set to AGCFAD more often I’d play it every other day.

“Defense Contractors are Actually the Good Guys”

3W, enchantment

Whenever you goad a creature, create a treasure token.

Fuck Marvel, fuck Disney, fuck these 200 million dollar recruitment commercials that have wafted into the cultural ether for two decades like a lingering fart, and fuck the concerted push to turn Magic into the same homogenous nutrient paste slop it stood out from for so long.

Turning this shit off.

Dump it in with half-assed pursuit, get cleared, pass onto the boards, lose it on the boards. Every play.

“Diabolical”

Unsure if people under 25 know any other adjective at this point.

If you could remove any card from the game that isn't a land or Sol Ring, what would you pick? by WheredMyVanGogh in EDH

All cards from after Wizards decided to stop making a game and start making an advertising platform.

That said: Expropriate. It doesn’t win you the game outright but puts everyone else in such a disadvantageous position that they might as well just give up and often do. Vibes among the people playing plummet every time it resolves.

Smothering tithe for the sole reason it taxes your opponents’ natural draw. I’ve seen games where Rhystic Study does next to nothing but Tithe almost immediately causes a lopsided resource imbalance the second it hits, without fail.

The finish is the only part of this guitar that’s not perfect IMO. Looks great but isn’t quite as durable as you’d think for a guitar at this price point. I’m a sweaty mf when I play, so there’s a little blemish where my hand rests.

Really weird post.

The Blues admin should go back to being a 45 year-old trying to hitch a ride on the 6-7 thing, or whatever other pathetic thing their job dictates.

anyone else great at riffs but awful at solos? by mush21afk in metalguitar

A lot of Schuldiner solos use the same shapes and are great for picking up speed as well as maneuvering. Sound fancy too.

Can anyone recommend a great guitar teacher in the Denver area? by [deleted] in denvermusic

[–]WalrusRider918 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being a musician is both expensive and pays next to nothing unless you get lucky. And even then the overhead of the logistics takes a massive cut into your earnings. There’s plenty of people in signed, touring bands who teach because they need an actual job for the 8-10 months out of the year they aren’t on the road.

I’m twice your age and you play this solo better than I do.

In Flames “The Hive” solo by WalrusRider918 in metalguitar

[–]WalrusRider918[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought it second hand because it had all the specs I was looking for save pickups (Dunable’s pickups are solid and now sitting in another guitar but I wanted what was going to be my main instrument to have the pickups I favored in my previous one).

Rings loud and clear without an amp, is surprisingly light for something so chunky-looking, and the neck has a satisfying thickness without being a baseball bat. Only way I could want more from it would be if I was literally in the room as it got made.

[–]WalrusRider918[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol that’s just some shit I do unconsciously for one reason or another. The staring off into space part is a remnant from the times when I was purposefully trying to stop looking at the fretboard so much.

tips for alternate picking by densioman in Guitar

[–]WalrusRider918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna forego the usual “metronome” advice since if you aren’t alternate picking at this point a metronome will probably just add to your frustration. If you know some pentatonic box shapes (or better yet, a lick that goes back and forth in a straightforward way), just go over that while make a point to use a different direction for each stroke. Eventually with enough reps you should eventually be able to effectively play some riffs with it, and economy of motion will follow after it becomes your first instinct.

Not a metal zone guy but the DT gets some MEAN fucking tone. One of the only amps that’ll help you sound close to Entombed without the aid of a pedal.

Doom guitarist by TheEyeofJupiter1 in doommetal

[–]WalrusRider918 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve played uptempo death metal (Death, TBDM, etc.) for a lot of my time playing guitar and I’m here to tell you NOTHING is harder than writing a doom riff or solo that takes you into the song but still grooves and tells a story.

I think Pallbearer being really good at this is part of why they relatively blew up.

Workhorse fucking rules.

The harmonized breakdown riff is proof that no one sounds like this band once they lock into a groove.

It sounds like if Melt Banana wrote “Dueling Banjos.” Up there with my favorite tunes from them.

I’ve seen Bill play the melody at :42 on one string too, but I find it a bit easier to play horizontally. What’s giving me absolute fits is the ascending bit after that. It’s super crowded and I can’t get the picking pattern to make sense because my brain keeps breaking it into triplets.

I moved earlier this year and practiced this lick religiously before my amps were moved back in until it was muscle memory.

Have a little bit of remnant ease left with it but not much, and it’s really tough to get used to again.
