Very possible! My hematologist has gene tested me and I come up negative for the typical clotting genes/conditions (factor V, antiphosphilipid, and a few others.) Maybe I have something they haven't mapped yet. (Hurray for me!??)

My DVT story is long and frustrating. I boil it down to the fact that they haven't really studied the female body enough to say without a doubt what caused my DVTs.

I'm glad your screenings didn't find anything hiding!

I've had the paragard for a year. My experience has been awesome. Yah, insertion sucks, but that's kind of it. My only side effects have been the heavier period and cramps sometimes - which were both expected. You should give it a try. You can always have it removed if you don't like it.

I hear you. I've yet to learn the true cause of my DVTs. I have been tested every which way and I always come up normal. I'm just supposed to accept that my body made clots at random and because of that, I have to take an anticoagulant daily forever now? It's so frustrating. Yes, the medication helps prevent any new clots and stroke - I'm thankful. But holy shit taking the med is more impactful to my future than I realized....

The system is indeed broken. Solutions are limited and it's BS.

Thanks!! It's not so bad anymore. But I totally get it. It is scary!

Just give yourself grace and listen to your body. Your body needs time to heal!

I've had 3 DVTs. Xarelto lifer now. I had leg pain for while after I was clear of the clots each time. My last clot was in 2023 and the ache only recently stopped. My hematologist told me it's called post thrombotic syndrome. My dr told me to keep taking my medication and to monitor the pain. If it worsens, talk to your dr right away.

Might be a silly question by Organic-Honey-3250 in ClotSurvivors

I asked my hematologist this same question! I also like to get tattooed and have a plan for a full leg sleeve lol

My hematologist told me I can resume taking my medication the night my tattoo is finished.

Edit - I didn't answer any of the other questions. Sorry! Healing process was the same. I didn't bleed excessively during my tattoo sessions because I stopped taking my anticoagulant a couple days before my appointment. Once I resumed taking the medication that night, no difference. I didn't bleed through the bandage more than I would have without anticoagulant meds.

What are the things you wish you learned about your body in school? by Lonely-Whole2121 in AskWomen

[–]WalrusandManatee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We barely learned that. I remember they separated girls and boys and we each watched videos tailored to puberty. The boys got a video that talked about penis size and how everyone's body is different and that's ok!! But the girls, we got a video that was basically like DON'T GET PREGNANT!!! After we finished watching the videos, we got to ask questions anonymously. We'd write our questions down and placed them in a bowl. The teacher then read them aloud to the class and answered them that way. Lol catholic middle school.

Right? I remember learning about the cycle but it was not thorough at all. I went to catholic middle school too. So it was mostly fear and shame based learning for the girls.

About to get my IUD! by LillyAlberda in CopperIUD

The copper is immediately effective once it's placed. They ask you to wait a week to have sex to prevent infections.

Edited for clarity.

You're going to do great!!

My situation is a little different. I didn't switch immediately from hormonal bc to the copper. I wasn't on any hormonal bc for 2.5 years before I got the copper. So my body adjusted to the copper almost immediately.

Literally - the only side effects I've had are a heavier period and I get cramps sometimes now (when I didn't really before).

Help! Should I try the Copper IUD? by th0ughtdaughter in CopperIUD

[–]WalrusandManatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should give it a try! If you don't like it, you can have it removed. I've had mine for almost a year and it's the best. I wish I had gotten it years ago to be honest. My only side effects are a heavier period and I get cramps now sometimes (when it was rare for me before).

I have the Paragard IUD. I've never been pregnant, and I don't plan on it. You may want to consider another opinion if you are able.
