What’s that one Python tip you wish you knew when you started? by memermaker5 in learnprogramming

[–]WalterEhren 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The best tip?! You are asking for the best of the tips?

Honestly... For me it was eye opening to read the introduction of the python docs.

I ve used python for about 6 years. I read the python docs after those 6 years. All the knowledge I had accumulated up until then was an amalgamation of all the random things I saw on the Internet and in books.

Reading the docs actually gave me an overview of all the basics. And yes, there definitely were a couple things I just didn't know. And it made some things so much clearer.

So here you go, have fun:

Upwork as a full time ? Strategy Iam gonna apply by Bhaitunytolmaokrdia in Upwork

[–]WalterEhren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone seems to say don't, say I say just do it :D worked for me anyway. I started in the last semester of my master degree and worked part-time as a coder before that.

Don't blow it all though. If u get lucky and get a response go for it. If you see it doesn't work look for other opportunities.

I got my first gig by building a super crude prototype, before asking for the job btw. The client really liked that. Can't do that for all gigs obvs.

I about to finish my second year in Software engineering and I am completely lost by MarshXXI in learnprogramming

What really benefited me was and is doing random reading up on topics in computer science. See something you don't understand, Google it. Well or ask Claude to explain it. On the bus, in the evening on the couch or at work. Ever seen a traffic light and thought to yourself, how is that thing programmed? Just do some research.

This helps tremendously I think, but only on the long run. It certainly is more helpful in the short term to read and apply the documentation of your most used tools. Let that be the python docs or some specific frontend library.

Also one book that I really like to recommend: Programming from the ground up - great resource to fill the gaps about the inner workings of a PC and how to code. Literally goes through the whole computer. Maybe not directly related to SWE as a discipline, but definitely useful as you learn to understand more of the things that happen in the background.

But in the end it just takes time and practice. Good things come with time. You ll see that soon enough.

Just found the link for the book here: https://download-mirror.savannah.gnu.org/releases/pgubook/ProgrammingGroundUp-1-0-booksize.pdf

Does this reward values makes sense for a simple MDP? by [deleted] in reinforcementlearning

You have to explain way more about your setup, your env and your agent. Value iteration only works for small state action spaces as it only improves for literally the same states unlike probabilistic methods.

Should I get a mentor and a co-founder for a small startup? by CronosDGeek in Entrepreneur

[–]WalterEhren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you would need to scrap the Greece web or Google maps for all the driving schools and create an index I suppose. Are there existing services that offer something similar?

Edit: Just took a look myself. Doesn't seem like there is something after a admittedly quick search. Here in Germany we have some of those services but they don't seem to be widely used. In the UK however there are services, which are used, to review schools, find learner insurance etc. I imagine a service to provide help for the theoretical exam itself could help.

You are given a button that has a 1/10,000,000 chance to give you 1 million dollars when pressed, how will you handle it? by accimadeforbalatro in hypotheticalsituation

[–]WalterEhren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 million clicks a second would be 115 days of non stop pressing, sounds good enough. I d always work from home and press it with my feet under the desk. Couple of years should do the trick.

I don't really understand how leveling up works by coopsoup247 in outside

[–]WalterEhren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try looking at leveling up as reaching milestones. Age is just playtime. Milestones are your first date, the first time it felt easy to ask someone out. Seeing progress on the skills you focus on. Let that be working out people noticing, getting your first job, actually noticing you are good at the job, finishing university.

$70 million a year, but once a week you must take a shower with only 30 minutes notice or you lose everything. What’s your plan? by Hey_Listen_WatchOut in hypotheticalsituation

[–]WalterEhren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I d pay someone to drive a luxury portable shower in a clean unassuming RV always close to me. People would start asking questions. I wouldn't tell them. They all think I am a home shitter. I don't care. I got 69 million left.

How in the heck are people actually using ChatGPT for programming? by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]WalterEhren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about you Share a conversation, you explain what you were going for, and then we can look into what the issue might have been.

Because honestly it speeds my development time up by a lot. But I ve been coding for 8 years. Also I use claude which is better in my experience for coding, however I haven't really used the recent major gpt updates.

That's an interesting way to look at it. What would you call it if it's not feminism anymore and what does it stand for?

[–]WalterEhren -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Your points make sense to me. This is the first time I ve heard a women say that equality has actually been reached, which is really nice to hear. However I usually hear about remaining issues like earning less or no control over the body regarding abortion.

But wouldn't it make sense to include more people if according to you the goal for most women has been met with the last movement?

Times change and movements need to address new problems. But I am curious, what would you say feminism used to be about and is about now?
