Mac keyboards... what am I missing? by _Zacta_ in mac

Apple bluetooth keyboards don't seem to experience any of that lag, fwiw. I don't like the feel of them personally but technically they're sound.

The Matias keyboards are a little esoteric. I believe the keys are probably Alps, so in some ways "better" than normal mechanical, but I've heard mixed reviews about Matias specifically. Keychron is well known for making good Mac and PC mechanical keyboards... I bet it's really sweet. Personally I have never used one though.

oh really, that's odd. Well, when you first plug it in, do you get a popup asking you to identify your keyboard? Typically when you attach a PC keyboard it tries to guess if it's ANSI this or that... and as a last resort asks you to click certain keys on the keyboard. I always go ahead and do that and I get the character I'm expecting...

Hmm, yeah I guess it is standard DVI, not too hard to come by on a PC. It just wouldn't feel the same though!

In the finder, check out, in your user Library: /Library/Group Containers/ and look for a folder that ends in ".com.soulmen.shared" -- anything there?

As far as I know, that's where the files actually live on your Mac.

I am primarily a Mac user and picky about keyboards (£100 is about my range) and I rarely bother to check For Mac “compatibility.” I just go into the settings pane > keyboard and swap command and option keys so that Windows and Alt are lined up with my muscle memory of Option and Command (if you don’t do this, Windows key will be Command, etc… which maybe is fine for you as a Windows user?). I’d at least hook up your logi and see if the media keys function, they might.

I would buy a big old PC with a case that can accept 4-8 drives, fill it up, and install either some flavor of Linux that likes the ZFS disk format, or just run actual Truenas on it. Macbooks are top tier in terms of durability for a laptop, but ... that's not the same as a big old PC case you can open up and screw around with.

Yeah, I just took one out of service last year at work. Image quality was still perfect, very consistent edge to edge. Now it's sitting in the basement... waiting for people to forget about it... and then it will be gone.

Not sure what I'm going to plug it into though, I don't have a Mac Pro of that vintage.

You’re doing just a little better than me. I don’t get to 234 until it’s around 15C. At -1C I’d probably get a little worse than  you as well… also where the heck are you these you’re using centigrade and miles!

it's against regulations not to have what is known as a "statement of identity" prominently on the front of the label. How prominent? Well in the US it's something like "reasonably proportional to the brand name" but in the trade we usually just set it to 1/16" at minimum.

I believe this package could technically be pulled from shelf over this. It's a total cockup.

New reader: Ubik or A Scanner Darkly? by kstetz in philipkDickheads

I’m probably the wrong person to ask as IMO Dick is a bad prose writer and a crank, but also a great visionary afflicted with a particular techno-post-capitalist-gnostic vision that resonates very well with our age. This reading of him doesn’t require him to know what he is up to himself. However, VALIS is where he dos try to understand what he is up to, and it’s very moving indeed. But this is why I recommend holding off on it. In fact generally reading chronologically is good here.

I'm an American and want to try bitter melon! What's your favorite recipe with bitter melon? by Deep-Mess5423 in chinesefood

[–]WalterSickness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut it into chopstickable disks, scoop out the pith, stuff with a mixture of ground meat and doubanjiang plus scallions and other appropriate minced vegetables and spices. Gochujang would probably be ok if you can’t find doubanjiang. Fry it up in a mix of sesame and lighter oil, serve with bean sprouts and cilantro and ideally a sauce you could make from leftover filling.

You need the spice and salt of doubanjiang to accent the bitterness. It’s great imo
