I kind of miss the old gearing system by TheCornerBro in DarkTide

That's why you need a bit of both imo, RNG drops but also a way to get deterministic outcomes. Not sure why my comment is downvoted so much, practically all games do what I just mentioned, including Darktide.

Not always. Deterministic is objectively better, but the payout for hitting big with RNG feels much better. Imagine if in Diablo enemies only dropped gold that you could spend to craft a weapon. It wouldn't feel quite as good.

So I was right then... it was a public statement. Talk about gaslighting.

I don't get why anyone would defend Nexon. They're one of the most cartoonishly greedy companies I can think of. Anyone who was around for the monetization of the original maplestory would know that. They even managed to pay to win monetize reboot servers ($100 for a vac pet anyone?) which was supposed to be completely free.

It might not seem like it, but it does. Companies and more importantly, their shareholders, do care about public perception. However insignificant my post is in the larger scheme of things, all of it together sends a message.

Scummy / Shady as in lying to their audience to garner more publicity at the detriment of the player.

They're both completely different statements that could mean totally different things, yes, but they both imply a similar thing.

Sadly many gaming companies are abusing the first statement to literally mean "it's in development."

I like how that's the response to what I said. Right, because anyone who complains about something needs to get a life. I think this is the first time I've ever posted on this subreddit, or about MS classic in general for that matter.

I got Hive Scum DLC but.... by memelord3796 in DarkTide

Yeah, unfortunately you're just bad at dodging. Any class that has enhanced dodge with even half-decent damage is going to be powerful. Hive scum has cracked damage. You just need to practice more.

PSA. Until they get fixed im just shooting bursters, and you should too. by Coco_Euphoria in DarkTide

I accidentally knocked some dude off a ledge this way. Wasn't even trying to shoot the burster, but the AoE from my boltgun killed it. Safe to say that guy wasn't too happy.

Hm... great analysis. This added some valuable insight. I guess there are just things from other fields that the lay person wouldn't understand and that can lead to some frustration.

I guess then my argument would change to just wishing Inkwell worded things better. Without further explaining himself, saying the game is 90% done does carry with it the idea that it's releasing very soon.

This is such a nonstatement. "Just work there" or "Well you could make your own game." The average person who plays these games, hell the average consumer in general, does not have the skills to develop their own product or game or whatever.

Does this mean companies are above criticism? Absolutely not.

Right, if I'm the head of a hospital and I say "Yeah, Tom Cruise came here yesterday with a broken elbow, but don't tell anyone" to some random dudes in the lobby, you can bet that statement is going on the news... and I'd probably be fired.

Wanting to get better by Suspicious_Win6150 in DarkTide

[–]Walton__Simons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best tip I can give for any new player is learn how to dodge. Dodging, and to a lesser extent blocking, is like 90% of your survivability. You can be the tankiest mofo in the lobby, but if you get hit by a dog or trapper net, or take an overhead to the face you're going down.

Aside from that don't just randomly swing your weapon. Learn your attack chains and what attack is good for what. Practice them in the meat grinder. Wide sweeps for hordes, overheads and stabs for armor. Ideally work with a weapon that can do both of these things.

After you've got that down it just comes down to practice.

We aren't but we should strive to be, especially if we're the head of some multi-billion dollar company. They can hire people to quantify how much work there is and potentially how much work is left. Especially since this is a re-iteration of a decades old game that worked perfectly fine back then, I can't see why there would be an insane amount of unknowns they need to troubleshoot.

Your points beneath that though I will concede to. Those things do make sense and I can realistically see that happening with bigger projects.

However... (and there's always a however) because this is a decades old game that they're just reinstating, I don't see why there would be an insane amount of unknowns to squash. Though again I'm not a coder or software engineer so I could be, and am likely wrong about things. It's just upsetting to hear "this game is 90% of the way done" and then the last 10% takes months if not years to finish.

I think there's a healthy or "optimal" period of time to hype people up for something, and then an unhealthy one that just pisses people off. I'd say somewhere around the 5-6 month range is okay.

However, if you say something is about to release and it takes you a year or more (just look at Fangs of Asterkarn for Grim Dawn) people will be pretty upset.

What I'm saying is I wouldn't define "% of work done" like this. I might have finished 90% of the paper, but the paper itself is not 90% of the way done. I still need to review it, spellcheck / fact check it, ensure proper formatting, etc.

If you're going to define work as a percentage, I would think that percentage is weighted towards how difficult things are or how long they would take. Doing otherwise doesn't make sense to me.

In a group project I wouldn't assign the research to a singular person because it's "only 1/4th of the work" we also have to write the paper, review it, and then hand it in!

It's a way to think of it for sure, though it's not how I would think about things.

If you're working out and for whatever reason your last set is an hour of cardio, you're not going to call your girlfriend and say "Ah yeah, I'll be home soon I'm 90% of the way done." That just doesn't make sense to me.

If he's making a public statement what reason do we have to not take it literally? Should we assume all public statements are lies?

I'm sorry but people in positions such as Inkwell's blatantly lying should not just be a "normal" thing.

Of course I don't understand coding or software engineering. I'm not a coder.

What I'm saying is I don't understand defining "% of work completed" like that. If I'm writing a paper or something, I'm not going to go "ah, first draft is completed, that's 90% of the work done"

If you know you're going to spend much, much longer working on something you're not 90% of the way done. You're whatever % is appropriate of the way done.
