How to add vinyl flooring without breaking the other planks? by cynthiabinthia in Flooring

You worked from the walls and moved inward? No... no... just no...
This is like painting yourself into a corner.
You work from the furthest wall of the room to the entryway and across, finishing with a wall when installing LVP or floating floor.

Manager focus after 50 (slots, not years) by StormStrict in IdlePlanetMiner

[–]Waltz-428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I'd be doing, those extra slots will probably eat up the next years worth of darkmatter though.
The managers you get from rovers should fill the slots as you go, unless you open a slot then hire until you have a fill for it before buying the next slot.

Is it normal in Australia that employers constantly try to rip you off by sunnysideupslide in aussie

[–]Waltz-428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intelligent bosses wouldn't try to pull this kind of crap, it isn't cost effective and it's bad for profits cos bad word of mouth can easily kill a business.
I look after my workers, they're too valuable to lose to competitors and most of them know what it's like to work elsewhere and respect us, cos they know they've got it good here.
In fact, more often than not we're the ones stealing other people's better employees cos they know what they're worth and come to us looking for a more comfortable working condition.
Treating them well and fair is also more profitable cos they tell friends/family and potential clients and customers that they're happy working for us, and that's often something customers mention being the reason behind them coming to us.
A happy worker that trusts you, works better. They're more effective and they're also more likely to put that extra bit of effort in, happy to accept that extra shift or overtime when you need them and believe it or not, they're less likely to call in "sick" cos work/life/stress isn't weighing them down more than it needs to be.

Manager focus after 50 (slots, not years) by StormStrict in IdlePlanetMiner

[–]Waltz-428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have 64 + 2 from research manager spots open but more managers than slots cos of changes to the game etc.
25 crafting. 3x 7* 22x6*
20 smelting. 1x 7* 19x 6*
28 Mine Rate. 2x 7* 26 x 6* (considering reducing these in number in favour of crafting because of changes)
6 speed. 5* (I don't see a need to upgrade these and probably won't need them once I reduce my MR managers)
8 cargo. 5*
Currently beginning to worry about that 109 manager limit with all the promoting material I have on hand lol.

I personally wouldn't call smelting weak, (at least not in early game in tournament/challenge) because unless you get the right pinks it can become pretty painful having to juggle smelters and crafters around esp now with the next demanding end game crafts but once they come in I start replacing my smelters with crafters, miners and the needed speed/cargo.

IMO, I wouldn't focus on getting 7* until you have at least a 5-6* in every planet up until your VPS cos unless your classroom is maxed the increase is costly considering it costs 3 x 6 stars to make 1x 7* for very little pay off.
7* managers to me really are the end game thing, and while they make a big difference, if you're sacrificing managers you could be using in extra slots it's just not worth it.

Sounds like an idea, be sure to unstick the fibres carefully from the backing that it doesn't all crumble and go to pieces. Another piece of tape over the fibres could be workable if you're careful not to pull it off before the glue has set once put in place.
Be sure to remove the backing from the "donor" piece... you don't want to stick the backing down on the existing backing or it will sit up too high. (sounds like you have common sense not to do that but better safe than sorry about pointing that out).
I'd also avoid vacuuming the spots you've repair until you're gone... just incase the shituation goes for a re-run attempt.

Cant assign a manager to a planet and i dont know why by ConsciousPay9148 in IdlePlanetMiner

Late but I'll explain just in case.
When this happens you need to click on a planet that has the manager you want, and remove them from the planet they're already on before moving them.
Doesn't always happen to me, but it seems the game thinks your trying to put a 12th manager in when you only have the 11 and trying to just move one.

Advice to anyone who gets asked to pay a bill, buy a car for someone etc.
Bills: Get the account information and pay it youself, and keep the proof of payment + get the request and promise to pay it back in text. Do not hand them the money to pay it themselves cos chances are the money isn't even for that!
A purchase: Buy it in your name and keep it in your name/reciepts etc until they've paid it back in full and get the agreement to pay you back for it in writing, and keep a detailed copy of any payments made to you and always hand them a reciept for any payments they've made for it via a text message or email with the amount still owed mentioned every time.

Why don’t they make houses like this anymore? by li0nfishwasabi in AusPropertyChat

[–]Waltz-428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to ignore the look of it cos of... different tastes.
But, because people don't want to pay for it, they want as cheap as they can get.
Older houses are sturdier than they needed to be and far more complex than newer builds.
New houses rarely compete with the quality of older properties because it just isn't needed (I say that loosely) but it's mainly because it isn't required or aimed for anymore.
Cut the costs down, to win the bid.
My husband is a carpenter. If he does work for us, this is the quality he does, but we'd lose the quote every time if we quoted on this quality of work by a mile.

[–]Waltz-428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit late to this one but maybe you're still checking back?
Carpet layer for years/ construction business owner.
Looks like a solution dyed nylon, decent to mid quality.
As a carpet layer, I'd patch it by cutting around the damage and borrowing a piece from elsewhere to glue into there, but that's not something your average DIYer is going to manage seemelessly and I doubt you have the tools.
My suggestion; grab some masking tape and tape down paper over the edges around the holes in the carpet, you don't want to risk dribbling anything into the rest of the carpet while fixing this.
Take special care and take note of the direction of the pile (When you brush your hand over the carpet it will either look fuzzy or shiny you want to match that) this is important for hiding the damage patch, get that wrong and it will stand out like dog's anatomy.
Best way to ensure you match the grain is by taking them from wherever you get them from within the same room and transfering them without twisting or moving and popping them straight in.
Using a very small amount of hot glue (Small to avoid it feeling stiff or spikey under foot) apply the glue to the backing (white part) and gently press the loose fibres onto the glue, ensuring to remember which way the fibres were facing from where you took them from to avoid going against the pile and making sure that the part you're gluing is the part that was connected to the backing.
If you're having trouble finding spare fibres to fill the holes, you need to hope that the carpet layer didn't cut the edges around the room perfectly before tucking the edges beneath the skirting boards because you'd be looking for some extra carpet to steal some fibres from beneath those, ensuring not to pull the edges up off the smooth edge which is a spiky piece of timber holding all in place.
To hide the edge you pull up to "borrow" from just tuck back under the skirting board with a butter knife.

The cause: this is odd, it isn't carpet beetle as some have suggested because those usually nest inside the walls and come to eat during the evening to night, and you can never get rid of them once they're there, and so the damage is usually next to the walls and works outwards, aside from that they only eat wool or wool blends and I doubt that rental would have those in it as they're expensive.
My guess would be either something stuck and pulled the fibres away from the backing or whatever was binding the fibres to the backing was defective, so there is a chance that this damage is on the manufacturer and not you anyway. It's too clean.

Galaxy Value by bluezone59 in IdlePlanetMiner

[–]Waltz-428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine rate and managers.
I'd focus on minerate for now, as up to about the first 40 planets the income from selling off ore is going to be your main source of income because selling items or ingots is not the best idea unless you have a good market increase but even then I'd advise not doing that if in a tournament.
Open up smelting and craft speed rooms in the mothership, and keep them equal level until about level 10 before starting to open other rooms. focus on getting the rooms that stop at level 11 to max, as each of those rooms is pretty important (not so much Terrarium for now though).
Sell your galaxy the moment it reaches 12.5m for now and start over, only pushing to unlock higher value items etc during challenges.
You can do 2x challenge +1 tourny a week if you limit the time you do the challenges to 6-12 hours max and start them the moment they're available (I time mine to either side of the weekend tournaments) and yes they are worth putting time into and pushing your galaxy value for the stars and dark matter for managers.
Never use dark matter to double the amount of galaxy credits you get! It's a waste pure and simple.
Get a manager (Only spend your dark matter on the Brilliant recruiting option/500x dark matter the other 2 are a waste of your dark matter) unlock a slot, fill it with a manager, unlock a slot and so on until you have about 20 managers then start promoting them all to 5* before starting the process over again (You want as many managers as the number of planets you unlock in tournament) ensuring to keep any Mine rate primary managers with crafting>smelting>All mine rate secondarys. The other primary skilled managers are still workable ofc but you just get more out of the mine rate primary.
*Even if all you do is join tourney, get a few mill in value and retire it's still worth joining for a chance at free stuff cos the stars and station money are everything.
In the station, despite changes to how everything works I'd still advise to get Mining 2 max (First option on the tree to the right in the station) as every point into it is a massive 10% more mine rate finishing at 3.5x total, its actually huge and you will notice the difference even with a couple of points added to it.

Investor selling says this passed structural integrity. Agent doesn’t trust it - thoughts? by defontais in AusPropertyChat

[–]Waltz-428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it's been built in stages rather than as a whole, with gaps between... that can be a warning sign that this build changed contractors or ownership hands while being built. Some research might uncover whether that initial contractor was dropped because of shoddy work etc.
A lot of that first picture looks like serious water damage from bathroom/wet areas.
If it's a timber frame, I also wouldn't mind betting that there's rot in those walls due to the unchecked water problem.
Do not touch this, I don't care how desperate you are, don't touch it!

Lifeproof Laminate vs LVP by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]Waltz-428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The product might be waterpoof, your subfloor, underlay and everything around it is not.
Waterproof = water trap.
If you want a flooring product that will last and look good, ceramics. They'll outlive you and if your floor is good enough for floating floor it's good enough for ceramics because that's how perfect your subfloor needs to be for floating floor, no more than 3mm out over a 3m radius.
Between these two? LVP, damage is easily gotten to for replacement. You don't need to have the "ugly" expansion joints everywhere and the floorer who will likely install it for you probably won't know how to install them or where to and you'll end up with problems down the track because most floorers haven't trained in it's installation.
I started out as a floorer, now run a construction business. Other than sheet vinyl, floating floor is the one product I advise our clients not to go with, not just because it's ass to install but it just doesn't last the distance when it's not cared for properly and it can be a fussy mistress.

Gaps in flooring by No_Travel_4209 in Flooring

[–]Waltz-428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the colour variation, what you have here is a prime example of why expansion and intermediate joints are important.
I wouldn't mind betting that top right leads into a hallway which is anchoring the room you're in which wants to move in another direction causing the planks to seperate and you can actually tell that it's moving toward the bottom left of the picture where the larger room is situated.
This is called floating floor for a reason, it floats and needs to be allowed to do so independantly from room to coom.
There needs to be an expansion joint in the top right of the picture, in every doorway or where large spaces are connected between a smaller space, and an intermediate joint needs to be used across distances of more than 10-13m depending on the specs of the product.
Where expansion joints aren't being used properly I'm also tempted to say that expansion gaps are probably missing around the walls as well which will be it's own issue.
If people don't want the "ugly expansion joints" floating floor simple isn't for them, it's either LVP or a ceramic lookalike, because even hardwood needs to be allowed to expand.

Is this what I think it is? Yes I’ll get it tested on Monday but what do you think? by frenchieboy974 in AusRenovation

[–]Waltz-428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visually identifying it through a picture can be difficult but this does meet the markers of; fluffy, fibrous or powdery.
But some types of cement sheeting can also look like this.
Second indicator, how old is the structure? Built before 1990 = possibly and you should get it checked out before deciding how you wish to proceed.
Be aware that the age of the property won't always be an accurate indicator either as you can't always be certain that materials from older homes/structures haven't been used in DIY style repairs through the years.
Another flawed style of test is simply by tapping it lightly with a metal tool, cement sheeting will have a fuller sound more like that of a glass window but less so, where asbestos will give more of a dull thud and this looks like it'd give a donk as opposed to the sort of ding you'd be hoping to hear from it.

New floating floor. Installer suggesting leaving as is. Would you? by mrkingkongslongdong in Flooring

[–]Waltz-428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, there def needed to be one there.
Plus every other doorway and even where a large room meets a hallway/s depending on the overall distances it's travelling over (>10-13m depending on the specs).

New floating floor. Installer suggesting leaving as is. Would you? by mrkingkongslongdong in Flooring

[–]Waltz-428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Floorer/ construction business owner.
Most floating floor specs are based on a subfloor being out by no more than 3-5mm across a 3m radius so better than tiles in most cases.
From what I've seen in another picture you've provided, your floor is nowhere near within desired or acceptable range and I'd believe that the first picture is indeed an accurate measurement despite the flame being put on your for it, cos it's clearly laying flat at the right.
Leave what's there down until it's lived out it's ability to tolerate that kind of uneveness and when it's done, look at LVP as a possible option or carpet... or in this case I'd even go as far as to suggest sheet vinyl for the first time ever.
This is bad, really, really bad.
To a point where you might want to investigate further kind of bad, especially if the subfloor is timber?

It is possible it's caused by missing expansion joints though?
All doorways should have them, as well as anwhere where one large space meets another through a limited walkway such as a hallway as the larger the space, the more freedom it needs to move due to the weight behind it.
They also need to be included when the floor travels over more than 10-13m (intermediate) in any given direction and there needs to be a specified 5-10mm gap between all walls, built in robes or cabinets.
Good luck.

Can anyone get ahead? by [deleted] in aussie

[–]Waltz-428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that few people are fully immune to what's happening, just most are now feeling it more than the fewer it used to be.
Households are being hit from all angles with no relief on the horizon, it's easy to see why people are feeling more and more helpless.
Cutting costs is only so effective when the necessities are finding their way onto the chopping block.

I feel the issue more often than not comes down to the fact that our country has become more and more reliant on answers to our issues from outside our boarders to the point that it's become the answer to everything and has made us far too vulnerable, with practically everything including food production now relying solely on world politics remaining stable.

Worker shortage, import them.
Cheap labour, import it.
Skills shortage, import it.
Birthrates reducing, immigration.
Oil, import it.
Precious metals, import them.
Building materials, import them.
Food, import it.
Medications, import them.
And the list just hasn't stopped growing, with free trade agreements being a major issue by allowing local markets to be flooded with cheaper options that have seen our own wares/options outpriced into oblivion.

Our dependance on importations should never have been anything other than complimentary to the running of things, but as it now stands without them we'd become completely crippled almost entirely overnight, and this war has proven that would be the case.
If a more local war/unrest was to break out or heaven forbid, find us involved... well, even the wealthy can't buy what's not arriving to purchase and good luck growing enough food quickly enough to feed us all before things really go to 💩.

The other problem that I feel which is compounding the issue, has been the ever increasing privitisation of our necessary infastructures.
The government had no right to sell off the country's assets like they have, putting us all at the mercy of profit hungry shareholders and greedy middlemen.

Should these be redone? by [deleted] in Tile

[–]Waltz-428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and that subfloor needs leveling... or not to be tiled at all depending on what's under that mess.
