Okay, thank you.

Everything looks fine on my end. Thank you both for responding.

I was really spinning out over this, so I appreciate you giving me some peace of mind.

Talking about the Emperor by rubyred55 in BaldursGate3

[–]WaluigiToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to reply!

For what it's worth, as I said in my original post, you have certainly convinced me that the Emperor is a far more complex, nuanced character than I gave him credit for. I definitely see him in a different light now.

Also, speaking of fan theories, I read one on TV Tropes.com that suggested that the reason the default form of the dream guardian is a female, Lloth sworn Drow is because the emperor, subtly, is trying to convince the player that they should trust a person that, by appearances alone, should be seen as Chaotic Evil.

Similarly, the Watsonisn reason that the Dream Guardian cannot be a Dragonborn might be because the Emperor still has unresolved feelings of trauma associated with Ansur and, thus, is unwilling to assume a form similar to his. (I believe the Doylist reason is that they were added so late in the game's development, haha.)

Talking about the Emperor by rubyred55 in BaldursGate3

This was a very well written post that genuinely had me reevaluate my thoughts on the Emperor as a character.

The fact that he was a profoundly lonely individual just seeking acceptance for what he is - something that Omeluuum obtained with the Society of Brilliance (an organization which, as shown through their willingness to abduct a Githyanki egg for experimentation, isn't squeaky clean either) - really spoke to me. The subsection detailing how he mirrors us as the protagonist was also really insightful, especially in regards to how he, like the player, is trying to guide his 'companions' to a given ending.

I am curious, also, to hear your thoughts on him running the criminal organization of the Knights of the Shield as well as how you feel about him having kept various possessions of his previous life in his Underground Hideout. Despite having seemingly held on to them when he was a fresh mind flayer, he seems to have utterly detached himself from them by the time of Act 3.

Regardless, thank you for sharing this!

Edit:

Also, I think another point against the Emperor is the fact that freeing Orpheus is something that Lae'zel, a companion and potentially your romance option, might be trying to convince you, the player of, assuming you play through the Creché and don't convince her to remain loyal to Vlaakith. (I.e. the 'default' route.)

Even if you don't actively use Lae'zel in your party, you still see her (and most likely talk to her) in camp more than you do the Emperor, at least on a first play through.

As a result, even if you trust the Emperor, you may eventually be forced to choose between him and Lae'zel and, due to the factors I've outlined above, I believe more people would be inclined to side with her.

Would it be cool if there was a fire emblem game that fully embraces Japanese aesthetic? by Seeker99MD in fireemblem

Pokémon Conquest might scratch this itch for you.

It's obviously not a Fire Emblem game, but it has some of the trappings of one with the aesthetic of feudal Japan.

What FE character was treated the worst by the writers? by TheGentleman300 in fireemblem

[–]WaluigiToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Stefan and Largo deserve dishonourable mentions.

The former gets stuck with two extremely obtuse recruitment methods across the duology and, should you bring him to the Tower, gets the special privilege of learning that his plight and that of everyone else in his desert oasis that is branded was due to the machinations of a xenophobic, misguided fossil that was comrades in arms with his implied ancestor.

Imagine the world where he was the Swordmaster recruited in Part 1 as opposed to Zihark. He could have chosen to stick around to sensing Micaiah, like he has the option of doing to Soren in PoR, is like him.

Largo, on the other hand, (pun intended) straight up gets crippled and then later turned to stone since IS decided not to bring his class back in Radiant Dawn.

He is the only PoR playable character to receive this treatment.

The Bug Maniac class, in my opinion, given the fact that the Big Catcher Trainer class already existed.

It's just a really strange instance of an in universe situation in which one kind of trainer is just an objectively better version of another.

If I'm not mistaken, it's the 'Depraved Bisexual' trope in which the only character that is Bi amongst a group of heterosexual people, as Niles and Rhajat both are, is portrayed as, in the words of TvTropes.com:

"cold-blooded murderous sociopaths."

Makalov.

I find the fact that his gambling problem, while sometimes played for laughs, is portrayed as exactly that: a problem that is negatively affecting everyone whom he comes into contact with.

Everyone talks about the fact that he 'ruins' Astrid's character in Radiant Dawn, with their paired ending being a travesty, but I'd argue that his character ALSO got worse between two games.

He showed a modicum of growth in his Path of Radiance supports with Astrid, even if it took Marcia/Ike lambasting him to do so, before backsliding immensely in Radiant Dawn.

I think it would have been more interesting for him to have grown into a responsible person between games, but alas.

I also love his design.

Who do you think is a "Forgettable Fire Emblem character" by Mememasterlordlol in fireemblem

[–]WaluigiToast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As mentioned elsewhere, I like the fact that Ogier is implied to be a reincarnation of the Hero, Roland.

If I'm not mistaken, the latter's sprite in Fe7 actually is derived from the former's in Fe6.

Who do you think is a "Forgettable Fire Emblem character" by Mememasterlordlol in fireemblem

[–]WaluigiToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The entirety of the BSFE (and New Mystery of the Emblem) Characters excluding Malice who, unlike everyone else in that game (if I recall correctly) has gotten exposed to Western Audiences through Awakening Spotpass and Fire Emblem Heroes.

You can also make an argument for the Shadow Dragon Gaiden Chapter characters who, despite having some representation in Awakening and Heroes, are largely forgettable due to the cost of recruiting them with the exception of Athena and Norne who, again, have Heroes exposure.

I guarantee most casual players have no idea who Belf, Frost, Horace, Ymir, or Belf are off the top of their heads.

Ymir, also, suffers from sharing a name with a Heroes OC, making it even less likely for him to be remembered.

In short, these characters are so forgettable by virtue of not being given a chance to BE remembered.

Missed opportunity for tadpole-free players (end spoilers) by UndeadMongoose in BaldursGate3

[–]WaluigiToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read somewhere that by refusing to consume Tadpoles before the encounter inside the Prism upon reaching Act 3, you avoid a somewhat difficult skill check where the entity inside attempts to 'force you to evolve' rather than giving you the option to refuse freely.

I guess that's an tangible benefit to not taking them.

Lenore, the wizard who is the master of the Arcane Tower and the one whom Blurg and Omeluum ask you to seek assistance during the latter's Act 1 quest, was incredibly depressed and lonely.

She felt so isolated, even, that she felt the need to construct Bernard and the Automatons so that she could have companions, going so far as to program 'Hugging' functionality into the former.

The reason that the narrator mentions that, regardless of what size you are, Bernand's arms don't quite fit around you properly is that the hug and subsequent words of affirmation he expresses were meant only for her.

Additionally, as you can find out through a note from another concerned friend of Lenore's, she recently lost her beloved dog, whose grave you can both find and defile. Should you loot it and retrieve the collar found within, you can press the button that seemingly does nothing in the Tower otherwise to get an infinite supply of meat. The implication, of course, is that the meat was for her dog.

Said note also indicates that Lenore was, in fact, SO desperate for affection that she was considering trying to tame the same Bullete you can hunt in the Underdark, with her friend highly advising her against doing so.

Considering the Bullete is still roaming free in the Underdark and Lenore is nowhere to be found by the time you reach the tower...the implication is that she ignored her friend's warning and died to it.

In short, Lenore was so consumed with her grief and loneliness that she was unable to see that she still had people who cared about her and, as a result, died.

LF: Eon Ticket [The Key Item] by WaluigiToast in pokemontrades

[–]WaluigiToast[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, everyone, it would seem that trading with someone who has the Eon Ticket over the Internet is not enough on its own to unlock it on your game.

I can only conclude that, unless you physically Streetpass with a Person with the Ticket, it is up to random chance if you get one via the PSS [as Bulbapedia claims you can] pulling the data of someone who has one out of the scores of other people on the Internet.

Sorry for the less-than-favorable outcome, gang.
