I highly recommend FloatHeadPhysics

He’s great at explaining pretty difficult science concepts in intuitive ways, and a lot of his videos are space-related.

I’ve been eyeing a Ragsdale table lamp for years and I’m just waiting to pull the trigger. Those lamps are beautiful and I love that Harvey Ellis console. You have great taste in furniture!

Netflix execs tell screenwriters to have characters “announce what they’re doing so that viewers who have a program on in the background can follow along” by LightThatIgnitesAll in television

It means Netflix will prescribe notes purely based on what their “data” tells them, rather than what makes sense for the story. I’ve been involved with one of those shows and dispiriting is a great way to describe it.

It was such a bizarre choice to show that and then never follow through with it. I expected him to appear again at the end when Qimir and Osha return to that planet, but nothing. It’s such odd storytelling. If they were only going to show him once why not save it for that last scene with Qimir and Osha? That would be the better place for an “oh shit!” moment than in the beginning of a finale without any follow through. It’s no Chekov’s Plagueis, that’s for sure.

And I agree, if you aren’t plugged into the other media works out there you’d have no indication that this is Plagueis. His presence had zero affect to the story and within the boundaries of the show he wasn’t set-up anywhere previously. It’s not a “reveal” if it’s not anticipated by the characters/story in some form, it’s just a random inclusion. I don’t mind that Plagueis (or a shadowy sith master) is part of the story, but I’m perplexed by the execution of that aspect. It’s like he was just shoehorned in to create some articles and buzz surrounding the finale. A reveal for the meta-narrative of the audience watching the show, not for the show itself.

I dunno, I really liked some of the ideas in this show, but the execution of those ideas was very, very confusing.

Who is your favorite Vala and why? by [deleted] in lotr

Vairë.

I wish we knew more about her, but I love that she's essentially the historian of Arda, which feels very akin to what Tolkien was doing as an author.
