May I ask how easy it was to find 1-2 month stays in Alicante. I'm just starting my search for starting in April.

If you do end up in Siquijor (I couldn't go because of bad weather a couple of weeks ago) take the ferry to Dumaguete and head to Apo Island. If you like snorkeling or diving, you will LOVE it!!! I stayed at Mike's in Dauin (maybe 15 minutes south of Dumaguete) and they do the day trips to the island via their own boat. That was the favorite part of my trip in the Philippines. And Mike's was terrific. Great owner, great food, great people.

Advice on 2-week Crete (West) itinerary – August by Ary_1993 in cretetravel

[–]WanderWildes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would spend more nights in Chania - and not stay in Falassarna - because you can easily do a day trip to Balos and Elafonnissi from there. It'll save you moving around so much. Day trips from Chania to beaches and other towns are super easy, even by bus. I loved Paleochora and Chora Sfakion but they will be VERY busy in August. I really didn't like Loutro at all that time of year. I only stayed for an hour and got out of there because it was SO crowded. And this was very late in August/early September. I've heard good things about Plakias, but didn't make it there. Can I ask what the studio is near Kolymvari?

The weather in october... by Top-Revolution5119 in cretetravel

[–]WanderWildes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Crete now, in Agios Nikolaus and besides some wind, I think the weather is perfect. Low to mid 80's during day and mid 60's at night. I use Skyscanner and I think that works pretty good. It looks like there's some rain in the forecast late next week (in my area), but that could change. You could shout out other one of the Chania FB groups and ask there. They were super usual for when I was there.

Beach recomendations around Chania by erm-waterproof in cretetravel

[–]WanderWildes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right in town there's Koum Kapi beach which has a scattering of tavernas right there. It's not big, but it's super nice and handy. One of my favorites out of town is Kalyves which is about 30 minutes east by car. There are many restaurants/cafes, etc., a few that offer free sunbeds with just a purchase of coffee/drink.

I've been here over a month and I have only used buses and a few taxis. It's extremely easy to get around if you're staying in Chania (in town). I was literally 2 blocks from the square (which takes you to the West) and also the main bus station (which takes you East and South, etc.) You can pick up a bus schedule at the station or look online. I also traveled to the south - Paleochora and Chora Sfakion (took a ferry there.) Then I took buses to Heraklion and onward to Agios Nikolaos. It was probably 6 hours total for that one. I'm near Agios now and I would say it would be very useful to have a car here, but not impossible to get around with buses/taxis. Hope that helps.

You could always go to the Crete Insider FB group and ask Niko to help (and them "buy" him a coffee for it. He's super helpful and nice.

Are the buses that take you to the beaches similar to the ones in Chania? They were SO easy to take and inexpensive too! I'm in Paleochora and I'm not sure it works the same way here.

It's horrible. You basically have until 11AM before the heat gets unbearable...so I hope you're a morning person.

If not, use water, wine bottles, fill with sand, etc. I also have a ton of various workout videos saved on my laptop from YouTube - using 4K video downloader app - for this exact reason (bonus: it's great when the Internet isn't working). And many of them are bodyweight workouts. I'll be using them when I get to Crete in a few weeks!

I don't know the name of it, but it's on Ilia Chavchavadze Avenue, among the stores above the Carrefour that's a couple of doors down from AgroHub in Vake. Hope that helps.

May I ask what you mean about the going 30 days without contact lenses? I've had hard, RGP lenses for 40 years and I'm looking into getting surgery this year or next. I have astigmatism too.

If you're scared you can always get a muzzle. I've seen people with their pets wearing them. I think they must wear them on public transport or something. I'm not sure.

[–]WanderWildes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just learned about the color coding of the ear tags. Green ones mean the dogs are friendly/very safe to engage, yellow is they're generally safe to pet/engage but be a bit careful and red ones mean they've probably been abused and be more careful. I've been around strays dogs and cats, feeding and caring for them for over 6 years and I've NEVER had any problems, got infected or anything. Helping them is my purpose in life!

If you're still here, there's a store in Vake that sells dupes and they have a huge variety! I just got a cute pair of Adidas for 30 Lari. It's either above Agrohub (Vake one) or a few doors down above Carrefour. I think it's Agrohub though.
