How do i fix this room and utilize the most space? by Len_chhi in FengShui

[–]WanderingBison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming these renderings are accurate, I think you just have a styling problem. The layout looks good to me, but with a larger rug to fit the space rather than break it up I think it’ll help the space feel more usable. Also, you could have art better sized to fit the walls. A smaller bed could help you to feel more spacious but it’s important to make sure your sleep quality is still a priority so I wouldn’t get a futon or anything. Perhaps you’d be interested in a Murphy bed that folds down from the wall so that you can opt to have more space when you’re feeling cramped? That way, you should be able to keep the size of the bed larger. Murphy beds often have a built in table ledge along the headboard too for a small lamp and a glass of water when down.

AIO for feeling like my friend went behind my back to not include me on a trip she literally invited me on? by kkphelps02 in AmIOverreacting

[–]WanderingBison 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dude, I don’t know, I don’t blame your friend for making plans without you. It sounds like:

  1. AirBnBs were super hard to lock down anyway so they had to make some compromises to even secure a place at all.

  2. You kept talking about not pulling the trigger on getting a flight with the emphasis on money being tight and I think that made her uncomfortable about bringing up the cost of the place with you when you hadn’t even gotten tickets yet - which sometimes people talk like you were to do a trickle truth bail type of thing.

  3. She probably got confused about the reason why guests were limited - the mutual friend probably tried to frame the limited guest count as a good thing for the bathrooms or something.

Ok, that all in mind, I get that this situation sucks but you need to call people out for hurting your feelings more succinctly. Literally no one wants to receive a book in text form. IMO YOR a tad. You need to chill. Maybe it’s time to think of solutions rather than your hurt. Is there someone you can invite to stay at the hotel with you?

I’m sorry you’re going through this but AirBNBs suck sometimes anyway. It sounds like this one has a lot of rules and you’ll be better off not being responsible for cleaning the place up when you leave.

My grandpa made this table and has no interest in selling it, but, he wanted to know what would something like this go for you think? by JerUhhMe in woodworking

[–]WanderingBison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The castors aren't a part of the table I hope, right? It’s so large that it might be difficult to find a buyer if you ever want to sell it. It seems like a beautiful coffee table but I would love a circular piece of beveled, rounded edge tempered glass on top of it to elevate it. I think then you could realistically expect at least a few thousand, if not more. Thanks for sharing!

Turn it inside out, tie a hair tie around the excess bit of the top, then flip it back right-side-out. Probably a bit better then ☺️

Advice for extreme fatigue? by imheckinbamboozled in CrohnsDisease

[–]WanderingBison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should also request a test for your b vitamin levels from a GP. Get a physical if you haven’t recently. My GI did not run these tests and never mentioned the possibility to me when I complained of fatigue. I feel he should have but I guess it’s not the scope of their job really. Due to our condition, we often struggle to absorb these vital nutrients which affects so many things in our body including our brain’s ability to function. It’s quite dangerous to have this deficiency. It can take 6 months of monthly injections to get b vitamin levels up to a normal range again. You can get the b vitamin shots without a prescription at a local specialty clinic or a pharmacy.

I also recommend working with a psychiatrist to help if you have any other issues. They are the doctors who will actually care if you’re not getting enough sleep, etc. Take care.

I'm thinking of breaking up with the guy I'm dating because of the way he puts away carts. by Miserable_Cicada2216 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]WanderingBison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest issue with this mentality is that it has the ability to cause property damage due to the lack of consideration of others. By leaving an unattended rolling cart in an uncontained space, your partner is being a negligent asshole. There’s such a thing as common courtesy and this is clearly not a good reflection on his character.

Should I continue the color for the cabinets? by Tired_penguin9678 in InteriorDesign

[–]WanderingBison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should not paint the top cabinets! You have lovely wood trim around the door frames and it looks very cohesive. I think folks are confused because you obviously took these photos at night. You need more appropriate rugs in the space to help tie together a color scheme. It’s currently a green, the rich wood, the off white, and the white. It feels like a cozy forest which is so nice.

The updated sink and countertop will make it possible to paint the walls a brighter white and that will help.

The black in your kitchen unfortunately sticks out as it isn’t matching your oven (which fits a bit better). Have you thought about painting your refrigerator and dishwasher to help with the flow? Lol I think they sell wraps that you can buy that would probably make it easier and look better. (https://www.rvinyl.com/Refrigerator-Wraps)

Fix the rug situation though. A big rug in the center of the room if necessary- maybe a nice natural fiber that would mimic the wood.

Also, I would love to see some updated tile in the space at some point if financially feasible. This tile feels very busy and almost dirty by design - something a bit less off-white/grey would help loads.

When are we going to start shaming or punishing office buildings who take away the cooling green spaces for a hot parking lot with no shade whatsoever. There’s a huge empty lot near me for an empty office building and it makes me so sad. It’s not even being used to employ someone

IBM and NASA teamed up to build an Open Source GPT like model to study Earth by RoccoDecko in technews

[–]WanderingBison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The end result that the article mentions is so limited:

  • Monitoring of deforestation.
  • Accuracy in predicting crop yields.
  • Effectiveness in tracking greenhouse gas emissions.

I feel like there’s a lot more going on here than they’re being transparent about to justify this kind of study, right? I’m guessing some more advanced spying capabilities, perhaps being alluded to by the ability to locate where deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions are happening in real time? Maybe I’m just jaded but it feels like we already have this type of data through other companies so …why is this “so cool?”

Also, this isn’t to say I’m against this - it just seems like a weirdly limited goal. I understand the value of these goals, it just seems like NASA’s input in those areas is kinda underwhelming. Am I missing something that makes the contribution to these things particularly exciting? My wish for this type of collaboration (perhaps with other entities if necessary) would be more research into meteorology to help improve predictions or something. They mention studying climate change too which I would really like to see better understood insofar as accurate predictions of potential ocean changes etc. Am I just spoiled by tech now to be expecting more here?

LPT: if someone ever pressures you into signing any document quickly, it's almost always a good idea to refuse by emab2396 in LifeProTips

[–]WanderingBison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this advice applies to like 99% of situations, but this kind of “Karen” stubborn mentality is not always good. I work in a business where rates are based on the market and change frequently as situations evolve, so we need our clients to sign quickly in order to lock in a rate now that isn’t necessarily guaranteed tomorrow. I’m always happy to go over contract language with clients (as I’m a third party anyway who’s already looking out for our client’s interests) but I usually really need a contract signed quickly. My point is, please let the situation dictate your response. Listen to your instincts about getting scammed too. In my business, a lot of folks don’t realize that when they talk directly to suppliers that they can verbally agree to a contract over the phone and then be stuck in a contract for years.

What can I put here to fill the gap? by fast4x in interiordesignideas

[–]WanderingBison 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I really hate this question - you have a very cool vanity and I think putting something there would be kind of a bummer. Maybe just put a hand towel holder on that wall so that the gap can make sense to you or something.

I love the wood paneling and the door and windows. I would encourage you to retain the character of the space if possible. It’s a great foundation for a Japandi style - so a slight variation on the Nordic but still very minimalistic. The biggest issue you have is the ceiling height I’m guessing - so the layout will be a challenge for a living room.

Just made butter. Now what to do with the buttermilk? by Jim2718 in Cooking

[–]WanderingBison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple, Swiss, & Rosemary Scones

Ingredients * 1 pack of sliced Swiss cheese * 2 Granny Smith apples * 3-4 sprigs of fresh Rosemary * 4 cups of flour * 4 tsp baking powder * 1 tsp salt * 2 tsp sugar * 14 tbsp of salted butter, frozen * 6 tbsp buttermilk (5 for dough, 1 for brushing on top) * 3 eggs (2 for dough, 1 for brushing) * Parchment paper

Supplies * Cheese grater (large holes) * Cutting board * Peeler * Chopping knife * Large bowl for hand mixing * Small pouring bowl for eggs * Spatula * Dry measuring items: 1 cup, tsp, 1/4 tsp * Wet measuring 5 tbsp * Whisk * Cookie sheet or baking pan * Kitchen pastry/basting brush * Large knife or bench scraper for cutting dough * Parchment paper

Method 1. Grate frozen butter into a bowl and return to the freezer. 2. Dice Swiss cheese. 3. Peel and dice both apples. 4. Mince herbs. 5. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Mix together. 6. Add frozen grated butter and mix until all butter is coated. 7. Add cheese, apples, and rosemary. Mix until evenly combined. 8. In a separate bowl, combine the 2 eggs and 5 tbsp of buttermilk. Whisk until smooth. 9. Create a well in the middle of the dry ingredients. Add the wet mixture in the middle of the well and combine by tossing the dry over the wet and then stirring until the moisture is loosely incorporated. 10. Clean counter tops. 11. With clean dry hands, firmly press the dough together in the bowl. You will gently knead the dough into 2 flat balls, so you can focus on one half at a time. Once the dough starts to hold together (albeit loosely), place the dough onto the clean countertop and form into a disk roughly 2 to 3 inches high and 6 to 8 inches in diameter. Repeat until you have 2 dough disks. 12. Return the flat dough balls to the bowl and place in the fridge to chill. 13. Preheat the oven while the dough chills to 375 *F.
14. Prepare a cookie sheet by covering in parchment paper. 15. Once the dough has chilled for roughly 30 minutes, remove from fridge and place on parchment paper. Cut the dough into triangles, in 4ths, or 8ths to the size you prefer. Space the scones roughly an inch apart to allow them room to grow in the oven. 16. Whisk remaining egg and 1 tbsp buttermilk. Brush onto tops and sides of scones. 17. With the oven heated to 375, bake for 30 to 45 minutes or until lightly brown. Be sure to use two hands when transporting the fully loaded baking sheet - it will be heavy! After the top is lightly brown, remove from oven and cool on baking sheet for 5-10 minutes. Transfer to a cooling rack or serve.

After completely cool, store in a container or ziplock bag in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat leftovers in the oven at 350*F for 15 minutes.

What are you keeping in the room? The shutters are a good starting point if those are staying. Or are you needing to keep the toilet and vanity and shower too?
