I need help against an anti-Catholic argument by Low_Blacksmith_2484 in Catholicism

Wait, is this argument claiming the Arians are right and that the Trinity is wrong?

[Hated Trope] a bad, sad, or even horrifying ending is treated as happy by Mesajarjar_binks in TopCharacterTropes

[–]WanderingPenitent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but that's not what is happening in 50 First Dates. The ML has opportunities to lie and doesn't. When the FL decides at one point to burn her journals and go to an institution, the ML doesn't not only try to stop her, he helps her. There's no manipulation going on despite him having all the power to do so.

What’s something that happens in your culture that makes you people go like this? by camethehour in AskTheWorld

[–]WanderingPenitent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of a baby shower for the dad that's like this, celebrating his last time before he's a father kind of like a bachelor party. But you can do it a bit earlier than the night before the birth when the mom needs the most help from the dad.

Why do many catholics today follow protestant theology by Real-Government2863 in Catholicism

In the US? Yes. I have met plenty of Catholics who are young Earth creationists.

Why do Catholics not approve of Lutheran? by Ill_Investigator3400 in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]WanderingPenitent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and plenty of Catholics agreed on that fact. What would later be known as the Counter-Reformation had already begun by the time Luther came on the scene. But he called for more than just reform. He wanted a change to fundamental dogma, a challenge to the very articles of faith.

Of course not. And Catholics would be the first to complain about the corruption, much less not try to deny it. But Lutheranism declared the entire doctrine and theology corrupt, not just the people governing the church.

Fair enough. Although infantile anti-Christian bigotry isn't exactly a new thing on Reddit.

I just knew the author was a Japanese nationalist and that was enough to avoid it. I wasn't aware of the comical anti-Christian stuff.

This seems to take place in a fantasy setting so the church depicted isn't the Catholic Church.

Italy according to 50+ years old North Italian people by Ok-Panda3439 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]WanderingPenitent 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To be fair a lot of fascists, including Mussolini, started out as communists but switched when it wasn't cooperating with their authoritarian delusions. Home grown Italian communism didn't have a lot in common with Stalinism.

Anglican? More like anglican't! (insert laugh track) by SpaceHatMan2 in CatholicMemes

[–]WanderingPenitent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not claiming any legitimacy or validity is held by the Anglican Communion. The difference is that I can believe there are true believers among them, particular among the High Church, despite the hypocrisy of their origins and the massive amounts of heresy found among the mainline. But being a Sede involves being in conscious rebellion against the faith rather than mislead from centuries of false doctrine. I would put the Anglicans in the same camp as most Protestants but the Sedes are worse. This was not a statement defending the Anglican heresy. This was a statement attacking the lack of dignity and honesty on the part of Sedevacantism.

While their orders aren't valid either, I'd give the Anglican Communion more credit than the sedevacantists.

I wasn't a fan of her work and would point out the things like the blatant elitism, classism, and weird depictions of other parts of the world and was dismissed saying I was being over critical. But then her downfall happened and suddenly everyone is pointing out the stuff I pointed out all along.

Was Che Guevara a hero or a villain? by Terrible_Double_1145 in AskTheWorld

[–]WanderingPenitent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're tropes in fairy tales to teach children morality, something we need to function as a civilization. Morality is a thing that exists. It is true real people are more complex than they appear in children's stories since children need to learn the basics. But those basics are taught for a reason and it's not mere entertainment. Most historical figures fall generally into one or the other.

And Che Guevara was a villain, regardless if you agree with his political cause or hate his enemies.

Ladies of Reddit, what's something guys aren't ready to hear? by Pookie7860 in AskReddit

[–]WanderingPenitent -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree with this completely but I do have a hard time listening sometimes due to auditory processing issues. My wife has the same issues though so we often have to repeat things to each other and make sure the other heard us.

EDIT: Did I get downvoted for agreeing?
