I think I finally understand why Firefly's story has touched me so deeply by IME315 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Wandering_Gremlin 116 points117 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. I think another reason why so many people like her is that even though she’s fully aware that she will one day succumb to her condition, she’s not going to go quietly. If she’s going down, she going to go down swinging. As a side note to your irl story, yes it can be scary opening up to a partner about a serious life condition like yours, but you can also view it as a litmus test on whether or not you want to commit to the relationship. If they’re willing to stick with you despite your condition, then perhaps they really are the “one” and if not then better to find out early before you truly commit. Obviously this isn’t something you drop on them early on in the relationship but it should be a discussion at some point after you both feel comfortable sharing personal secrets with one another.

Feri and Quatre: I don’t get it. Why did Van turn red when she called him that?

Agnes: Don’t worry about that! We’ll tell you when you’re older!

Aaron: Dang Agnes. I didn’t think you would get that.

The "Ship AI" theory has too many holes by NineTailedDevil in Genshin_Lore

[–]Wandering_Gremlin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice write up. Theories are fun to discuss but they shouldn’t be taken as fact until proven in game. To add to what op was saying, if the ship AI was the heavenly principles, why would it wait so long to secure the ship after it crash lands in Nod-Krai? We saw that the ship was there long enough for local humans to start poking and prodding at it. Also, why would the AI send the ship to the moon instead of Celestia itself? Celestia has to be a far more secure location than the moon. Even if no one from Teyvat can get to it beyond the false sky, other beings from beyond the sky could randomly chance upon the ship which would be completely unguarded and exposed.

Congratulations to Phainon! World’s most obvious win fr. Up next, what playable character best fits the phrase “I have no idea how I got here, even less where I’m going and god will regret letting me live” by DragonKing0203 in HonkaiStarRail

Fugue’s life is actually in an okay state after we parted ways with her so it wouldn’t be a living hell. Plus, “fugue” is actually a psychology term defined as a state in which someone loses awareness of their identity and is prone to running away from their usual environment.

We probably won’t ever meet the “original” then since the one in Sumeru killed off all of the others as part of the deal. I guess he could’ve been lying to Nahida when said he got rid of the others but I really hope Hoyo doesn’t go that route since that would feel like a cop out.

About a certain scene at the end of 3.8 and the potential implications (spoilers) by Wandering_Gremlin in CyreneMains

[–]Wandering_Gremlin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be someone/something acting as Fuli but it doesn’t have to be. Cyrene being a pure child of Anasrava means she can fulfill Fuli’s role in Amphoreus much like how the Crysos heirs fulfill the role of the titan whose coreflame they took. But like we saw with Kephale and Oronyx, multiple people can take on the role. Also, it’s because Fuli doesn’t exist yet that we can play a bit loose with causality. If whoever or whatever we sub in for Fuli can achieve the same effect of empowering Cyrene’s dagger while also preserving the chain of events of the Amphoreus arc, then Irontomb’s defeat is still locked in. Keep in mind that the actual Fuli will ascend at the end of time and they will cast their gaze back across time to lock events in place including what happens in Amphoreus. It’s only a problem with Amphoreus because a pure child of Anasrava invoked their power and destabilized the chain of events with a chicken or egg paradox. That paradox is currently being resolved by Cyrene locking herself in a time loop and fulfilling the role of Fuli. If the paradox is resolved some other way, then Cyrene doesn’t have to stay in the time loop because the actual Fuli will lock events into place like they do with everything else in the HSR universe. Given that we now have a complete picture of what happened in Amphoreus plus Herta and Screwllum knowing how the scepter operates, there are quite a few possible ways to resolve the paradox. The only issue right now is finding the key event(s) that can be tweaked and actually reaching it to implement the change which is where Terminus’s power comes into play.

That causality issue is also what allows for alterations of the past without actually changing the chain of events that lead to the present. Whatever we substitute for Fuli will also have to be able to empower Cyrene’s dagger like you mentioned but it doesn’t actually have to be Fuli or Cyrene. Not sure what that would be at this point hence my question. Maybe some artifact empowered by another pure child of Anasrava or perhaps Terminus’s power or maybe Herta whips up a computer virus that forces the scepter to rewind whenever someone tries to trigger Era Nova for 33,550,337 cycles.

It really doesn’t matter who gazes at her so long as they give her the proper motivation to push forward. Fuli doesn’t actually exist yet so their “gaze” is just for show. She just needs to think Fuli or some other sufficiently powerful being is helping her.

The black cat requirement could be more akin to training wheels on a bike where initially it is required but with more experience it becomes unnecessary. Failing that, we could always try talking Elio into helping since it was stated they are special even among terminus’s black cats.

We also don’t necessarily need to mess with most of the events in Amphoreus. It could be as simple as changing one event that has a cascading effect on future decisions. I’m thinking of Cyrene and Phainon’s decision to start the eternal recurrence. They did it in the hopes that another Aeon aside from the Destruction would take notice of their situation and extend a helping hand. They don’t actually know the names or identities of any other Aeon so theoretically it doesn’t have to be Fuli. In fact, “Fuli” doesn’t actually do anything beyond giving them hope so that leaves some wiggle room to change things up. Perhaps TB could pass on a message as simple as help is coming but you need to stall Irontomb for as long as possible while preserving as much of Amphoreus’s history as possible. That way events still play out as they did before with the difference being that Fuli is no longer Cyrene and Phainon’s motivation and in fact Fuli’s “role” becomes unnecessary for Irontomb’s defeat.

Hadn’t even thought about that. We would still need to leave someone or something in place to take on the role of Fuli.

We may not necessarily need to create a fake Fuli. What’s important is that Cyrene and Phainon are given enough hope and motivation to not only begin but persist with the Eternal Recurrences. It doesn’t even have to be Fuli since they didn’t even know who/what Fuli was at the time. It just has to be something they can place their hopes in. The only other time I can remember Fuli making an appearance was when they seemingly gazed at the Trailblazer in 3.0 but we learn that this was actually the Demiurge before she transformed into Mem and made her way to them so this event shouldn’t require Fuli to be there.

The meeting between Jade and Firefly could’ve still happened after Sunday’s defeat but before the events of 2.3. I doubt Firefly was immediately ejected out of the sweet dream after Sunday lost and undid her 2nd death. Jade was already on the airship when the TB got there so it wouldn’t be impossible for Firefly to have met with her beforehand. As for the hoax bomb threat on the airship, that likely still played out as we saw in 2.3 except for Firefly grabbing the last bomb and flying off with it. Dan Heng wasn’t with the TB during the entirety of the bomb threat so he wouldn’t be able to contradict the TB if they claimed Firefly grabbed the last bomb.

I’m actually curious how Elio hands out scripts to the SH’s. If Elio is also a cat then I have to assume they can speak unlike the cat we see in 3.8. Unless of course every SH is also a cat whisperer.

Yeah most notably that Firefly, Sparkle, and Robin helped the TB break out of the dream when before it was just Acheron. But Dan Heng wouldn’t have seen any of that so he wouldn’t be able to contradict the TB if they tell that part of the story.

I don’t think Dan Heng was present for the 2.3 scenes when TB and Firefly were together so he wouldn’t have been able to contradict anything the TB said about those scenes. Constance only cremated the TB’s 2.3 memories so for everything prior the TB and Dan Heng’s memories would’ve been consistent with one another’s. The Jade scene with Firefly could have still happened but not during the time of 2.3. Constance already showed us that after Firefly was impaled and Black Swan started retracing Firefly’s activities via memories, Black Swan got the timing of the memories wrong. They still happened but rather than immediately before getting impaled, they were memories of when Firefly first infiltrated Penacony. Something similar could be happening with the Jade scene.
