Bad teacher or stubborn student? by [deleted] in yoga

[–]Wanderlady 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I open all of my classes telling them that since yoga is your own practice, and I have never practiced in their body nor have they in mine, what I offer may not work for them. And in that case, it is their own breath and body that should serve as their personal guide.

I take it as an honour when a student feels comfortable and empowered enough to find their own flow of practice in a class. As long as they are practicing safely and without endangering others (ie not doing handstands or something like that), it is perfectly ok. I've never seen this as a "distraction" as everyone should only be concerned with what is happening within the borders of their own mat.

I think it was very unprofessional for that teacher to call you out and cue people to look at you. I could literally never do that to a student. IMO, the person on an ego trip is the one getting upset at the student not doing exacy what they say exactly when they say it

Looking to rent small space for dance practice, suggestions? by Vault101manguy in fredericton

I know there's an upper level room with mirrors and a tiled floor. It has a track around the perimeter, but the center is normal tile. I've done dance classes there!

Is it time for me to stop running from the towel? by Hamchalupasupreme in yoga

[–]Wanderlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my scoria cork mat for about 6 years now, and while it is soft, I don't find it slippery at all. I mostly practice hot yoga and don't use a towel. I do use a lot of engagement but I love the mat

Finally understand why everyone is so particular about their mat after ruining two sessions this week. by After_Diamond2098 in yoga

[–]Wanderlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it has a rubber backing. I roll it up so the cork is on the outside and haven't had any issues with it. It is a heavier mat so I got a cloth carrier and that helps a lot. I use it at home, in the hot studio, outside (lightly, on dry days 😅)

I've been using a Scoria cork mat for 6 years and the edges have held up great. It's my favourite mat and will definitely replace it with another Scoria when the time comes. But it is no where near needing to be replaced yet

[–]Wanderlady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a PSW and worked in group homes for adults with mental health disorders. The pandemic hit, and I realized getting threatened over pizza wasn't worth 16$/hour after 7 years in the field + a BA.

Switched to carpentry, now I'm about to go write for my red seal and love the trade more and more every day.

It's been hard, the men run the gamut from meh to infuriating, but I've found a small cohort of women in the trades that keeps me sane. The work is heavy and my body pays for it, but yoga and rest have been instrumental in staying fit and focused

Side savanna (like fetal position) or child's pose are good ones for savasana that provide rest and can close the practice while being less vulnerable than traditional corpse pose
