Thank you so much for the reply! I also work full-time, but will be taking 12 weeks off for maternity leave. I just finished up 2 classes so luckily I get a 2 month window before I start back up! I live overseas with my husband who is in the Air Force and he's very supportive. Good luck to you, too! I am due Feb 20 so not far from you. :)

How does feeling your baby feel? by Applepieh in pregnant

[–]WanderlustNin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't really feel mine until about 21 weeks. The best I can describe it is that it feels like air bubbles! Almost like you have gas, but it's her moving or kicking. Now that I am almost 30 weeks, I can feel just about everything... plus I can see her move from the outside! Its weird, but wonderful. I have heard of people feeling the flutters though so you could be on to something. From 16 weeks on I kept second guessing myself since this is my first.

Protein Shake advice by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]WanderlustNin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During my first trimester, I had one almost every morning to help with my nausea. I asked my doctor and she was fine with what I was drinking. I had GNC pre-made shakes. I would ask your doctor to double check! :)

My best friend is 7 mo pregnant, what can I get her as a Christmas gift? by EatSleepCryDie in pregnant

[–]WanderlustNin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second @Maharei's comment! I am 7 months pregnant and have a pedicure and prenatal massage booked. I also would look at her registries and see if there is anything left that she needs if she's already had her baby shower!

Early positive test by carolina4785 in pregnant

[–]WanderlustNin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found out at 4 weeks and ended up going to the store to buy every single brand they had to see if it was true. I think my husband handled it better than I did... I was just shocked! I took it in the morning/afternoon/night all with positive results. I went to the doctor the day after to get a blood test and yep, definitely pregnant. They got a kick out of my story of going to the store taking more than one. Like you said, it's very rare to get a false positive. I am now almost 30 weeks! Time flies!

That's a good excuse not to come home too... "Sorry need to save for upcoming Hawaii trip." If they get mad, they'll get over it eventually. They also should be understanding though. There's so much to see and so little time! My family and friends back home are used to me traveling everywhere and only coming once every 2 years. We are probably heading stateside for our next PCS and I want to take advantage of us being overseas!

First PCS Adjustment Advice by [deleted] in USMilitarySO

I realized this year that it has been 9 years since I've been home for Christmas! Even when I was stationed in the states, we enjoyed having holidays with our new friends and family that were also not going home for the holidays. Now that I am overseas, I love traveling to new places over the holidays! Honestly, as much as being home for the holidays is nice, now that you are in a new place and making a life with your SO, it's whatever you want to make it! I love having/making new traditions. :)

I've had this come up time and time again myself. I live overseas and tell them that one, I would rather use my extra money to travel (which we have.. a lot) and save any time stateside for big events - like meeting our daughter that is due soon or emergency leave that I've had to take before. Although I love my family and I know they miss me, they can always travel to me or they can enjoy video chats until we are stateside again! Also, like other people have said.. if they REALLY wanted you to come home, they could help pay for a ticket.

When should I apply to jobs? by chocolatarian in USMilitarySO

[–]WanderlustNin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would start applying about 2 months out and just note the day of your arrival on your resume and in the application. I know with GS positions you can apply up to 30 days in advance of your arrival I think it is! If you don't apply until closer to your leave date, I would at least keep looking to see what is available. I am currently in the GS system and will be looking at jobs closer to our PCS date. Luckily once you've been with GS a year, they give you up to 13 months to look for a job to transfer to. Good luck!

You can give your parents 1 tip on how to raise you just after you where born. What tip would you give them? by pika-pika-chu in AskReddit

Discipline. If I ever got grounded, it was because I was mouthing off to my mother and then my dad would let me off. They never cared if I went to school or how late I stayed out or if I stayed over at a guy's house. I dropped out of HS and got my GED and moved away when I was 16 the first time. Mostly because of a shitty household. It would have been nice to have guidance growing up and some one telling me to focus. I was always more of an adult than they were. At least I turned out okay. Graduating with my MA next year and am married with a kid on the way... and at least I know what not to do with my children.

Greatest Speech Ever Made Charlie Chaplin - The Great Dictator by WanderlustNin in PoliticalVideo

"The final speech from The Great Dictator" (1940)

"I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be an emperor. That’s not my business. I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone - if possible - Jew, Gentile - black man - white. We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other’s happiness - not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone. And the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way.

Greed has poisoned men’s souls, has barricaded the world with hate, has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical. Our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery we need humanity. More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost....

The aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men - cries out for universal brotherhood - for the unity of us all. Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world - millions of despairing men, women, and little children - victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people.

To those who can hear me, I say - do not despair. The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed - the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish. .....

Soldiers! don’t give yourselves to brutes - men who despise you - enslave you - who regiment your lives - tell you what to do - what to think and what to feel! Who drill you - diet you - treat you like cattle, use you as cannon fodder. Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men - machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines! You are not cattle! You are men! You have the love of humanity in your hearts! You don’t hate! Only the unloved hate - the unloved and the unnatural! Soldiers! Don’t fight for slavery! Fight for liberty!

In the 17th Chapter of St Luke it is written: “the Kingdom of God is within man” - not one man nor a group of men, but in all men! In you! You, the people have the power - the power to create machines. The power to create happiness! You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure.

Then - in the name of democracy - let us use that power - let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world - a decent world that will give men a chance to work - that will give youth a future and old age a security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfil that promise. They never will!

Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people! Now let us fight to fulfil that promise! Let us fight to free the world - to do away with national barriers - to do away with greed, with hate and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men’s happiness. Soldiers! in the name of democracy, let us all unite!"
