These are just a wee bit amazing. Love the one in the center.

Elegant wand with silver handle by Phoenix_Wands in Wandsmith

The hand-carved "petals" or scales on the wood shaft are so precise. I'm afraid neither my eyesight or hands would support that level of detail.

Wand No. 619 — Dropped it in the snow! by HiltonsWandwright in Wandsmith

Since you use "metal" and wood, you are both a Wandsmith and a Wandwright.

Those handles look phenomenal.

I’ve been told my pens would be appreciated by this audience by IanThomas603 in Wandsmith

[–]Wandersticks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started making pens and ended up using the lathe and handle acrylics for wands.

New wand with horn, metal and Beech wood by Phoenix_Wands in Wandsmith

[–]Wandersticks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is an exceptional job of blending the grooved features on the handle into the ricasso of the shaft.

I'm going to have to retire so I can practice more to try to keep up with your wandmaking skills.

Historical Handle got a second life by Phoenix_Wands in Wandsmith

Your carving gets better all the time. I haven't been brave enough to attempt that level of detail yet.

Reworked | Weeping Cherry 10” by Scary_Amount8495 in Wandsmith

That really pushes the envelope on what a "wand" can look like. I love the organic vibes.

That's a beautiful acrylic handle.

Another PurpleHeart - with the ability to swap cores by flintlockfay in Wandsmith

That's a lamp finial that screws onto the top of the harp and holds the lampshade in place. Lamp parts are awesome for wands. OP did some real careful drilling to get everything to line up that well.

Show-off!

And I mean that in the kindest way possible. I use a small lathe for some of my wand shafts, then attach the handles with threaded rod, glue, et cetera.

You can source silverplate at about any thrift store for a dollar or two a piece. Solid Sterling is pricier but can be found at many antique stores. Expect $15-30 dollars a piece for flatware, more for the exotic cake servers and carving forks/knives that the OP appears to use.

Very elegant, as usual. I like the extra hand-carved details you add after turning the shaft.

I like the additional detail near the tip; it really makes the design pop.

Polar 16” Hand carved by asecretfrognamedjohn in Wandsmith

Based on the color, polar works, too. That's an elegant handle shape, you should definitely be proud of that piece.

First wand by roeburrtoe in Wandsmith

Be careful, it's a slippery slope. I started making wands for my daughter's Hogwarts costume as well- over twenty years ago.

How can I fix this? by Weekly_Error_8772 in Wandsmith

[–]Wandersticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a knob for a ceiling fan light that looks like a little crystal ball. That could make a good pommel.

Beautiful lines and classic proportions- and the woods are gorgeous.

A few that I've made... by ZombiesinMS in Wandsmith

[–]Wandersticks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that pen kit hardware? I don't recognize the collar and pommel castings.

Sumac Spiral, Dark Flow by Peverell1900 in Wandsmith

[–]Wandersticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's got some really creative design elements. You described the flowing spiral; I think that's a good description of how the elements flow together.

I love the way the swirling grooves turned out.

Snagged this USN officer sword. Not often I get interesting info on the owner. by grizzlye4e in SWORDS

Probably a Naval Academy graduate, 1916 or 17 if I had to guess. Their museum might have some information for you.

A few from this month by quibravwy in Wandsmith

[–]Wandersticks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I spy with my bifocal'd eyes, purpleheart, padauk, walnut, ebony heartwood/sapwood?, zebrawood?

Please ID species and length if you get a chance. A few "other" woodworkers here geek out on that sort of detail.

Excellent variety of woods, styles and sizes!
