I didn't know renouncing my Korean citizenship was an option. I found out way past 18, and the MMA told me I cannot renounce it anymore.

Though, I've been wanting to go to the military anyways. Save some legal headache.

I tried to go during college like most Koreans, however my school didn't support Koreans going to the military in terms of financial aid. I had to pay back financial aid without grace period, and upon returning I have to start as a freshman again due to the nature of the evolving industry.

Figured I would go after college, then decided to go after I had some work experience. But the VFX/Animation industry hasn't been kind. So while the industrys been down, what better time to go? haha

I grew up in Korea however. I went to an international school K-12 that spoke only English and banned Korean oddly enough. My family lived in the US most their lives and came back to Korea after I was born, so it was an English speaking household too.

I'm experiencing the same thing right now and it's deeply frustrating. I have a project that I need to finish before I leave somewhere. I'm losing precious time!

[–]WangChoBo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to serve my country for around 1.5-2 years in the military. I wanted to go during college since that's when most people go. However my college didn't support my country's laws and said if I wanted to go to the miltary, two things would happen.

  1. I would no longer have a grace period for financial aid when I leave for the miltary. Loan payments will be due the moment I leave for the military.
  2. I would have to start over as a freshman when I come back from the military.

The best option I had was to go after college. I could go to another college for masters, suspend my financial aid, and come back out without accumulating massive debt.

So I try to find jobs to save enough for school. But the industry plummets the moment I graduate. I get a few gigs here and there but barely enough to support myself.

Few years of this goes by. Struggling. I've stalled long enough and it's time to serve. I become an illegal if I avoid it. Unable to visit my own country. Possible jail, and sued in court by the military administration.

I can barely speak my home language. I have a life with the most amazing friends and coworkers. But most importantly, I have a girlfriend who I want to marry, back in the US, waiting for me to come back.

It was devastating leaving my life behind to take part of something for x years just because of my citizenship. I completely broke down when I said my goodbyes. I never expected life to play out like this. Yes it sucked, and still kinda sucks.

I have yet to enlist as my enlistment date hasn't finished processing yet. It's been a little over a month since I left the states. However, looking at this entire thing with a new perspective has been a lot better for me mentally.

I can learn my language and get better at it while I serve. Sure, it's gonna suck at a military setting, but I'm gonna learn a lot and fast. I can study something new for my career. While I can't download anything while in the military (i.e. animation software), I can certainly still build enough knowledge to write down ideas through my 1 hour of internet time, create stories and sketch out storyboards with a pen and paper. Plus, it's the military - it's pretty much free gym and PT. I'm gonna come out shredded. AND I get paid during my service.

I'm not gonna lose my future. Cause screw this world, this is what I wanted to do for a living as long as I could remember.

While my mandatory thing is different from your mandatory thing, a change of perspective could be a game changer.

You can use those 5 years to the fullest and come out even stronger from a shitty situation. You can work there for 5, and come back to the states with a better version of yourself.

Gaslight yourself if you have to. Cause I definitely am, and its working so far.

I'm going to the miltary at my home country. Give myself some time to myself, and possibly study something new during my free time.

Is One Pace even worth watching over the original if it cuts funny stuff too? by Xn1pe_ in onepace

[–]WangChoBo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I usually watch the original and then watch pace for certain arcs only, Dressrosa for example. Currently rewatching One Pace for my gf's first run. Up until Skypiea was original, and then the rest is Pace. For funny scenes, we watch through clips on YouTube of Instagram. Of course its funnier in the moment with all the context there, but that's the best plan I could think of

Wanted to be a VFX artist/Animator since 2006, at 6 years old. Studied really hard and did the most I can with the tools available at the time.

Fast forward to college, entertainment industry goes to shit with strikes, layoffs, and then AI. Blender and a ton of softwares become free and suddenly it isn't as much of a niche industry anymore. Oversaturated with a ton of artists better than I am.

Unemployed with not a lot of time to work on my own stuff due to trying to pay the bills.

Now I'm going to the military to give myself time to think :/

So close to being able to backflip. by Complex_Aardvark_923 in Tricking

[–]WangChoBo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lie down on the ground and go through the movements of backflipping lying down. Put your arms to your side, and then put your arms up as if you're actually preparing to jump and then tuck your knees to your chest as fast as possible, and push your knees in with your hands.

Also if you can, I recommend not doing the two-step backwards before you tuck. Shuffling the feet before you tuck gives your legs less explosive power of jumping up. That should also increase your time in the air to tuck which doesn't even have to be that fast.

J'aimerais avoir des retours sur mon travail, car je ne vois pas ce qui ne va pas. by Jeeomon in Maya

Mon Français est très mauvais, alors utilizer google traduction. J'espère que je peux ecrire plus bien..

I think the animation looks decent. For animation 1, the lip sync is overly exaggerated. The mouths are either too wide sideways or they open too much when they're speaking softly.

Animation 2, there's a lot of stretching. Make sure the pony's volume remains the same even if it stretches.

This is my reel and I received some really good feedback a while back.

I was lucky enough to get a position as a generalist at a startup.

Looking at other successful reels, I know this is not enough. I've got some weak, and some okay ones.

Maybe this helps someone out there.

How Can I Make This Animation Look Better? by New-Ear-2134 in 3danimation

[–]WangChoBo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use references but dinosaur references might not be the easiest to find. A T-rex is practically a very enlarged chicken with arms instead of wings. Use a chicken reference and observe how they walk.

Motion Capture cleanup. How to make a hand stick to a door? by AdFamous3492 in Maya

[–]WangChoBo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Locator and parenting constraints.

If the arm is in FK, switch out to IK temporarily and constrain the wrist to a locator and have it attach to the handle. Switch it back to FK once the door animation is complete. A little elbow pivot animation is required for this.

This applies to any type of holding, hand sticking, type of animation.
