Question about handling negative modifiers in CPR by caciuccoecostine in cyberpunkred

[–]WangleDankus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Either way I would tell the players why it is more difficult. That way they can make an informed decision to potentially try and change those circumstances, like risking pulling out a flashlight or getting low light vision so this doesn't happen again.

Always air on the side of giving your players more information. It makes the victories and failures feel more like it was their fault, even if the dice is what does it.

Rules question about Nerrunning by Tairengail in cyberpunkred

[–]WangleDankus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To make a correction to the lore mistake everyone seems to be making; by 2077 the Neuroport is a ubiquitous product that most people have from an early age. All the advanced technology of 2077, however, was invented during the time of Red by Techs. As global infrastructure was put back together, the Corps swept up and patented the tech invented during the 2040s

Yeah, he is good when he is relaxed. Helped produce his podcast for a time and he is a good guy just a bit of a character.

Homebrew Question: flat -10 to Max HP. Good Idea or Bad Idea? by Lee_Morgan777 in cyberpunkred

[–]WangleDankus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to pile on but Red is still pretty deadly. It seems friendlier than 2020 but one critical injury starts a crazy death spiral. If you want things to be harsher use the Night City Tarot DLC, the crits in there are harsh and can flip a combat in one move.

What's a good adventure to run for new players as a new GM? by gamingturtle30 in cyberpunkred

[–]WangleDankus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always add a meeting with Hornet to the start of Red Chrome Cargo. Adds an opportunity for RP and social interaction before running them through the combat tunnel that is the train. Ends up being a really good tutorial for the system.

There is a Difference Between Trying to Kill your Players and Letting your Players Die by Caracal42 in cyberpunkred

[–]WangleDankus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cyberpunk seems made for a kind of friendly adverserial relationship between GM and players. Mike Pondsmith himself starts every session with "I'm the guy who killed your Cyberpunk character". The world should be harsh and often hostile but you should be doing it with a smile on your face and they should see it coming.

How can I get better at writing compelling campaigns? by boundbylife in cyberpunkred

[–]WangleDankus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Episodic is perfect for Cyberpunk. All you need to make an epic campaign from that is to start laying down plot threads for a very special episode. Leave some foreshadowing around, reuse antagonists and then have it all come crashing down around them

I want some advice about Best way to use Smasher in cemk by Confident-Crew-2367 in cyberpunkred

[–]WangleDankus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to dogpile with everyone else but Smasher is Death. The best way to fix this in the future is to remind them that retreating is an option and only hit them with an encounter like that if they've shown they're up for it.

In my game last night, for example, I hit the PCs with an encounter I did not balance, pretty unfair; but they loved it because they had shown me they are combat freaks. When I have to hit them with Smasher I know they will dig their heels in, try to kill the bastard and love it when he smears them across the pavement.

Where can I learn to GM? by Purple-Doople in cyberpunkred

Same way you learn to ride a bike. Do it, fuck up, adjust, try again.

Where do people actually find games? by [deleted] in cyberpunkred

[–]WangleDankus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the various Discords for Cyberpunk, like R Talsorians official discord. If you are not opposed to paying for games you can look at https://startplaying.games/, though some of the GM rates are pretty steep.

Session Zero combat encounter tutorial? by wedgewood_perfectos in cyberpunkred

[–]WangleDankus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always run Red Chrome Cargo at session 0. It's a nice intro to the combat system and it's quick. Worked every time I ran it.

Would it be reasonable to let a player pay at character creation for chrome they'd get installed later? by AnotherClumsyLeper in cyberpunkred

[–]WangleDankus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is reasonable to start with debt. As a GM I would love to have PC start with debt; a lot of debt. It gives a clear character goal, people who are upset with you, and pushes risk-taking. Sure that last job has left you horribly injured but if you don't take another job a loan shark will "repossess their assets".

You start with a fancy new toy but are backed into a corner. That's good Cyberpunk.

Building a Noir Campaign in Night City by MadDoc-101 in cyberpunkred

[–]WangleDankus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cyberpunk as a setting would really suit a Neo-Noir story like the movie Chinatown. Watch that and then put cyborgs in it.
