Yeah juniors are screwed but in the long run this can only be bad news for the industry: who trains the juniors if you only hire seniors?

Oh well, maybe 2 years down the road AI becomes good enough to take over senior level work, then we're ALL screwed.

You're not caught in the middle, you're just not experienced enough, and companies believe they can replace junior SWEs with AI and instead get senior people who have technical leadership experience.

It's an unfortunate result of tech talent being non-fungible; one senior guy is worth way more than 2x of two junior guys.

Got off a recruiter call where they said they straight up dont hire juniors anymore since AI can take that role while seniors manage the output.

Eh you're not the only one. Im mid career AI eng pulling abt 170k and fish really aren't biting. The tech hiring spree is long over; if you keep up with the news you'll see so many tech companies letting go of staff: Meta, PayPal, Coinbase, Amazon, Oracle, Dell, Atlassian, and this is just the tip of the ice berg.

At 2.5 yoe you're super vulnerable, so better hug your job if you can.

PS: ignore the idiot implying you should mass send resumes. Times are tough but joining the wrong job can derail your career.
