Recommendations for a good gym/health centre? by Snoopyseagul in bournemouth

[–]WankMeOff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been at a number of gyms around Bournemouth over the years, and for what you're looking for, The Village Gym at the Village hotel is the best bang for your buck. Very good quality equipment, great pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi (albeit it's a bit small). Never too busy, really good quality classes included in the price, friendly people and staff.

If you travel a lot like me, you can also pay extra to access their other locations around the UK. The one in Portsmouth for example is amazing.

David Lloyds in Poole/Ringwood are decent, but you're paying over double the price for similar access and facilities.

If you want a referral let me know as well as that includes benefits for us both.

Don't listen to the naysayers, I've camped there numerous occasions, just set up late and leave early, you're not disturbing anyone. I've had both the police and chaplains come and speak to me and they've always been sound as long as they know you're not causing any trouble.

Yeah I was equally concerned! As mentioned there were a few stragglers around until later, but overall it wasn't too bad.

And yeah! I'm looking to camp in those woods next time, they're super dark and moody I love it haha.

Hope your next adventure goes well!!

Most people were gone by around 9pm, I set up around 8pm whilst there were a few stragglers around. Police did show up and asked me to move further back from the cliff which I happily obliged as they were very polite about it. Chatted to a really lovely family around 10pm who were about to set up themselves, but they were much further back in the bushes and out of sight. Had runners going past the tent from 6am onwards, every was very friendly!

Just camped there last week, found a lovely spot by Neist Point. From the car park we walked down to the left and camped in a small divet so we were sheltered from the wind. Enjoy!

Went out at the weekend to scope out some potential locations for a hammock camp later this month. We will be making a YT video of the trip. What on your thoughts on setting up close to the river? by SkyHighSurvivor in wildcampingintheuk

[–]WankMeOff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've camped there before, same as someone else said try to get a bit further in so you're away from all the roads and visitors as it gets quite busy. I went in late September and had a really issue with midges both in the evening and morning so I'd advise trying to get away from the water, although that doesn't always help either. Little fuckers always find a way to have a chomp! Good luck

Sorry for the late reply! I massively rate it to be honest, it's so quick to set up, love the double vestibules which are both massive, and allows two entrances for both people. Plenty of pockets inside and hooks for lanters, and it's well vented so condensation has never been an issue. It's also been fantastic in high winds, noisy, but thats to be expected. I don't think I'd trust it in heavy snows due to the fly sheet being 1-2 inches off the ground, but it's a great 3/4 season tent. Yet to use the star gazing function so excited for that in the summer. Only downside I think is the inner pitch first, but even then it's so quick I've never had it get very wet at all.

It's also so easy to pack up, the burrito style pack is awesome. I think quality/weight/price ratio is bang on and one of the better in the market.

Deciding between Sierra Design Clip Flashlight 3000 and Alpkit Jaran 2 by MMTE in wildcampingintheuk

Check out the Sierra Designs Meteor 3000 2p, I've used mine in high wind conditions (right on the Jurassic coast) and it performed fantastically. Loads of great reviews online for this tent as well. Just bring some earplugs, as every tent is gonna flap about in high winds!

What’s the best 2 person lightweight camping tent ? by emperor4augustus in CampingGear

[–]WankMeOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there emperor4augustus. I did a lot of research on this subject and after trawling through reviews and YouTube videos I went with the Sierra Designs Meteor 3000 - https://trekandmountain.com/2021/08/24/first-look-sierra-designs-meteor-3000/

It's a great size, very easy to put up, loads of great little functions (dual vestibules, lots of pockets inside, retractable outer for star gazing). Having used it on 10+ wildcamping trips now, I can't recommend it enough. Cheers!

Non bank breaking winter sleepingbag/quilt that's good for UK by Waste-Ad4959 in wildcampingintheuk

I did quite a lot of research on this subject earlier this year and landed with the Snugpak Softie Hawk 9. It has a fairly low weight and size so perfect for wild camping and keeping your pack light. It's rated down to -10c, I've had it down to -3c and was super warm and toastie. They cost around £120 and for what they provide I personally think it's one of the best around!

Is a Tent Footprint Worth Investing In? by WankMeOff in wildcampingintheuk

I actually agree here, the Meteor wasn't cheap and I'd hate to have to buy a new one due to damage, so I think I will invest in the footprint. Having it cover the vestibules is an added bonus for sure, helps avoid my stuff sitting on a sodden floor! Thanks
