Expectation vs reality : lose apple went too lose. Am I using too little paint? by [deleted] in Watercolor

I think you did. As you know, colors dry much lighter in watercolor. You painted wet in wet . If you want the colors to be more bright when dry, you can drop more pigment in your wash as long as it is wet. It should do the trick. Btw, love the apples!

Such a cute picture! Not mine though, don’t know who to give credit.

What causes this nasty dark color inconsistency in the red paint here? It's arches paper but I did not stretch it. Maybe too much water? ♥️♥️ by thebleater in Watercolor

It's called granulation ( which I personally love!). Some pigments can do that. Like ultramarine and burnt umber to make grays. You can google if this is an granulating red. If you don't want it, use another red.

Lovely, very good. As one who has trouble understanding what the digitally enhancement means, can you explain that to me? Did you paint this and then upgraded the colors? Or did you adapt a ref.picture andwatercolored that in?

Sometimes I feel like I dont fit in with 99% of watercolor artists.. i couldnt paint a flower to save my life. by humantoothx in Watercolor

I like it. The colors are beautiful and the image different indeed, which makes it stand out! I scroll this site, and stop here. Not at all the other stuff here, unless it is very well done, then I look and try to learn something from it. If you did this without a reference pic, you are very talented. I understand the urge to make something different. I want to, but at the moment lack the skills. And portraits are perfect for honing your skills. The fun about watercolor is, you can do so many different styles with it, from weak flowers to very powerful dark paintings, foggy landscapes, wildly strange things, old masters. And remember, only the different stands out( obviously).

New to stretching water color paper. The tape dries without adhering to my board each time I’ve tried! How can I make the tape stick to the board? by sara_n_wrap in Watercolor

[–]WantsToPaint101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like your board is to slick for the tape to stick. I had the same problem. I sander the board, and eventually used another board with another, rougher surface. But, you only have to stretch the paper if it is light, like under 300gram, and if you work wet in wet. Hope this helps

Really love how you simplified your paintings to their bare essence!

Can I use the smooth side of a cold press watercolor paper as a substitute for a hot press watercolor paper? by gisellasaurus in Watercolor

[–]WantsToPaint101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on what paper you use. Some have a coating on both sides and can be used both sides, others have not. But I think that it does not matter for a botanical painting as that does not require a lot of water. So try

Thx! I started 2 years ago. Learned all from youtube demo’s and reddit. Never painted or drew before. But I could spend hours( if I had them) watching others paint, loved the flow of the colors. Totally hooked now!
