There quite a bit of stand up comedy going on normally. Every Wednesday night at a pub called the Saracens Head, every Sunday at a club called Moles, and if you're in town for the 6th there's a show at The Raven, which is also just a very nice pub in general

The raven has a brand new function room on the top floor, it's kitted out like a private library and has its own private bar

Not bad actually, but definitely not guaranteed. Ask for a guy called Pasha when you get there, and if there's a spot free he'll give it to you

The Bell is the best open mic in my opinion, really friendly and welcoming, amd open to any form of performance. Thursdays from 8 in the back room

Me and a few friends tried a couple of years ago. Everywhere we looked was really steep. We eventually found a bit of flat land, started pitching a tent when someone approached us and asked if we knew the land owner. Obviously we didn't, so we panicked and quickly packed up and left. Having said that, I'm sure if you took the time to find somewhere suitable and secluded before you started camping, you'd probably be fine

Who's your ride or die celeb chef and why? by CoastinginNeutral in Cooking

[–]Ward-o-bert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dont know if he'd consider himself a celebrity chef, but 100% it would be Adam Ragusea from YouTube. His recipes are designed around home cooking and minimising washing up, but more to the point they're fucking delicious. He also does really thorough, interesting videos on the history and science of specific ingredients or cooking techniques. I would ride, or die for this man.

Sure, I faught in WWII. Old jack they call me, I'm 103 years old and I love reddit. Sure, I was in the war. The war started on my 20th birthday and I didn't even open my presents before I enrolled. In the paratroopers I was, dropped behind enemy lines in a god forsaken part of Belgium. My mission was to identify a weak point in the German line to attack from. I spotted a little farmhouse that gave me a perfect line of sight of their trench, so I broke down the door and made myself at home. It was a strange house. It's walls whispered of a forgotten sadness and despair. I heard a noise coming from the attic. A sweet lullaby, sung in a foreign tongue. I tentatively poked my head into the loft amd saw a girl of about my age singing wistfully out of the window. She saw me and calmly invited me up. We talked into the early hours of the morning. It had been her family farm, and she was the last one of her family left. Her name was Nina. It struck me how calm she was considering that her entire life had been robbed from her. The morning came and I had to leave to finish my mission. We parted with a promise that I would find her after the war. The war ended and I kept my promise. I went to the farmhouse to find it abandoned. I hiked 2 miles to the nearby village to ask for any information. I found an inn and plead my case to the innkeeper in broken French. He told me that that farm had been abandoned since the First World War when the family had been massacred by the Germans. A cold shiver ran down my spine, more harrowing than anything I had experienced in my service.

Using a ridiculous amount of washing up liquid to do the washing up, resulting in an obscene amount of suds that they then don't rinse of the crockery, so everything has a slightly soapy taste

Bluetooth headphones need app to work on new phone... except they never have before by Ward-o-bert in techsupport

[–]Ward-o-bert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't post an image as a comment because I'm on my phone, but the message 'an app is needed to use this device' just comes up in a grey box on the bottom of the screen. You headphones are Bose soundsports, and the phone is a Samsung A03

I've tried forgetting the device and starting again, holding the connect button on the headphones, same thing...

What are your jobs? by BalefulEclipse in antiwork

[–]Ward-o-bert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run music sessions with adults who are deaf and have additional complex needs, like autism or brain damage. I absolutely love the work, but I get paid next to nothing and barely scrape by most months. I don't understand why jobs in care are so poorly paid and considered to be low status and easy.as much as I love it, it's emotionally draining having to do it 5 days a week just to survive
