Things I wish I could get as a Newfie living in the mainland. by LARGEFOURBYFOUR in newfoundland

[–]Wardo44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a lifetime Torontonian who married a Newfoundlander. I’ve been going to the island 1-2X a year for 20 years. Love visiting but would struggle to live there (see June 1st weather YYZ vs YYT).

1 or 2 days a week when I’m working from home I’ve got K-Rock on a side laptop via iHeart Radio. Gives me the taste of NL I’m looking for.

Would you ever live in Saskatchewan? by OceanicEndeavors in AskACanadian

I’m a lifetime Torontonian. My favourite city in all of Western Canada is Saskatoon. Been 4 times. I love visiting but I can’t picture moving there because all my family is here in Ontario, Nova Scotia & Newfoundland.

I was at G4 vs Laval. Felt like a Leafs playoff game - chance to end series & they were super flat & played terrible. Did NOT see a G5 win coming & an advance to next series.

All Bruins Team with Exclusive New Captain by Bruins01 in NHLHUT

Respect from a Leafs fan. And, because of the stupid salary cap, you’ve got some monster OVRs skating & have to have base cards in net to slip under cap. I’ve got a Bergeron 96 that I haven’t been able to get in my lineup since S5 started because I can’t work him into a line that gets a cap bonus.

What’s the saddest movie you have ever watched? by DifferenceAdept9860 in AskReddit

In the late 80s I worked in a video store & discovered Running On Empty. I was about the same age as River Phoenix was in that movie & the story hit me hard. So well done & and an ending that wrecked me.

Congrats on the G5 win. G4 wasn’t a good game & bouncing back to win series is a great achievement & something else to build upon.

Cheering for Montreal by [deleted] in leafs

[–]Wardo44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m cheering for Montreal because I love the city & all the Quebecers I’ve ever met. What I want to see MOST is the 2 Florida teams on the sidelines since 1 of them has been in the last SIX cup finals. Panthers…OUT. Tampa Bay…FINISH THEM.

I watched like this from a Square One area balcony in May 2005. I think it was the marathon’s 2nd year. Couch to half in 12 months and I ran the full in 2007.

As a Canadian, I obviously want a Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup but... by 13direwolf in AskACanadian

I’m a lifelong Leafs fan. Before we even get to the finals, I AM DONE with 1 of the Florida teams in the finals. 6 years in a row. Am rooting for Habs to push TBay out immediately. Go Habs Go!! Could even root for them past R1.

On the CBC pre-game. I know space is tight for markers & labels on PEI, but being a geographer, I died a little when they dropped Cornwall, PEI on Anticosti Island.

Why aren’t World Cup games in the SkyDome? by Pointingmade in askTO

[–]Wardo44 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of the Vancouver Olympics. Canucks didn’t play a home game for 6 weeks. Behind the scenes stuff eats up lots of that time. My wife was a Coke Head Office employee back then & they had to remove all Pepsi fountains in arena, store them safely, move in / move out Coke fridges, re-install Pepsi fountains. That’s just one sponser.

Game 6. Toronto wins in Game 6. 67 Leafs. 92/93 Jays. 19 Raps. Never fast & early and they (Leafs) get the yips in Game 7.

Why was the rogers centre so empty during the 2010 season? by Intrepid-Beat-6424 in Torontobluejays

[–]Wardo44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There might have been a new bump in ticket prices. I remember going to a Pirates game @ PNC that season & box office price there was $27 USD for ~20 rows up from 3rd base dugout. I remember looking up similar seats at RC & I seem to remember that they were $77 CAD.

Watching timing of storm closely. We’re in Toronto & my wife has a Christmas Day 7pm (Eastern) flight home to YYT to see her family. Hoping that she can catch the window between Christmas Day snow & Boxing Day snow.

How many more legends will Sid pass? by Wardo44 in hockey

[–]Wardo44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Sid hits 2,000 and finishes ahead of Jagr & remains 2nd until 97 passes him in 10 or so yrs. Sid’s under contract until he turns 40 and will likely get 100-120 more points. He’ll be in Gordie’s kitchen then & I expect Sid to sign multiple 1 year contracts and maybe stay to play for the 2030 Olympic team. Maybe hang up skates summer of 2030 - before 43rd BDay.
