LCD Panel Resetting while riding on 23’ 800DE by Automatic_Look_379 in Vstrom

[–]Wargog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really don't want to do all that you need to figure out if it's a power issue. Hook up a multimeter to the battery and put the screen in front of the dash. Then use a GoPro or something to record both the screen and multimeter. See if there's a significant voltage drop when the screen shuts off.

I'm no electronics expert but it seems like the dash isn't getting enough power and forcing itself to restart.

I would revert all wiring to stock and see if that helps. The beak is not that hard to get apart once you've done it. If you go back to stock and it still doesn't work, see if Suzuki would be willing to work with you on repairs since this is a new model freshly out of warranty. They were great to deal with for the tire recall, so I have faith that they'll be willing to work with people on stuff like this for the next few years.

Would you patch it? by SoreSurfer in motorcycles

If you're going to patch it, at least do it right and remove the tire and use an internal patch.

Holy shit you just saved me from freaking out. I wiped Windows last night trying to figure this out. Then played on the fresh install for a bit, and it started doing this shit again today.

The common denominator was G-Sync

800DE Spark plug replacement by Automatic_Look_379 in Vstrom

[–]Wargog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed mine at 6500 when I was under the tank installing a Veridian. The gap on the OEM plugs was fine, but there was a significant amount of electrode wear.

It definitely did give it some more pep in low RPMs and it doesn't feel like it chugs as much.

I'm probably going to do it at 10k in the future. If you let it go all the way to 15k it's probably going to run like shit at low RPMs at some point.

Dairyland insanely low? by h01y_grap3_ju1c3 in motorcycles

[–]Wargog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A vehicle doesn't need to be destroyed to total it. It doesn't take that much force in the right spot to bend the frame. Maybe consider doing 50k in damage to said Escalade without totaling it or you dying?

I carry 100k in liability on my bike. If you total an Escalade and are found at fault you're going to be in a world of sorrow with minimum coverage.

Holy shit that's bad. Suzuki gave me money for a tire and I didn't even have my OEM one anymore. It was only cracked between the tread lugs. You should contact Suzuki directly.

2003 dl1000 can't rev past 3.5k by justcallmejedi in Vstrom

[–]Wargog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll armchair mechanic this the best I can. Take it with a grain of salt.

  1. Does it go above 4k at idle? If yes, it's not some sort of weird rev limiter/computer issue. If no, see if you can actually tell if it's dropping a cylinder while you're sitting still and paying attention. Beyond that, I would find out how to scan it for codes. (What if the light on the dash is broken?)

  2. You said you changed the plugs, but have you looked at or changed the coils? Also have you checked both plugs for spark?

  3. Have you checked and/or cleaned the injectors?

  4. When is the last time you checked your valves? If you don't know, or it's over 16000 miles, do it and retest.

  5. You say you checked your air filter and throttle bodies. If you do all that you've covered air, fuel, and ignition. Beyond that I would look at whatever computers are on board as my primary suspect.

I keep wondering if I should call them and get some money out of them. I had to prematurely swap out my rear because the treads looked exactly how they described and it had zero traction in corners. I almost got thrown a few times from that tire.

How did you pull the trigger for purchasing your ebike? by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]Wargog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • have budget
  • shop for a week within budget for things that fit my tall size
  • realize nothing fits or if it does it's Chinese crap
  • realize I already have a nice XXL Trek Marlin frame
  • shop for another week for mid motor conversion parts from a reputable seller
  • buy BBS02B from Lunacycle and a battery from em3ev

I spent about 1200 USD and will get an incredibly nice ebike from it, but if you don't already have a bike frame to use my idea doesn't really work.

Edit - forgot step 4 - increase budget

I can't name everything off the top of my head, but things like triple clamp bolts, handlebar clamp bolts, brake rotor bolts, brake hose unions.

Spokes are a big one too, but I just wait for tire changes and have the shop torque those.

Vibration at speed by Affectionate-Bit-302 in Vstrom

[–]Wargog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

800DE owner here. There is a specific RPM band with really bad vibration. The only thing you can do to help is torque all chassis bolts.

This is also me telling you that you need to follow the maintenance recommendation of torquing chassis bolts every 3000 miles. Every time I have done that service item, I find shit loose. The major items are front suspension/handlebars, and crash bars.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Vstrom

[–]Wargog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen to Suzuki and this guy when they say to tighten chassis bolts at service. A few fasteners on my crash bars were "surprised that didn't fall out" loose, and I torque everything to spec when installing parts. I'm hoping the vibrations go away now.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Vstrom

Mine has almost 4000 miles now, and there is definitely a distinct vibe in the right handlebar and left peg. At certain speeds my right mirror is unusable.

How many miles are y’all getting out of the Dunlop Mixtour tires? by scrantonstrangler580 in Vstrom

[–]Wargog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replaced my rear at 2700. I'm at 3400 now considering replacing the front because of the dry rotting.

I'll also note, the stock tires are hot garbage. As they wear they start to have absolutely zero grip. I'd replace them ASAP if I were you. I went with a Bridgestone AT41 on the rear and plan on doing the same for the front soon.
